Chapter 53

Chapter : 50 - His Peace

Uns Ki Mohabbat : Heartstrings

"If you intend to kill me, then do it now, Uns. How will I focus on driving if you do this to me?" I expressed my helplessness to her.

"Didn't you like it?" Uns asked calmly.

"You're talking about liking it? My heart was racing here," I replied, looking at her. There was a strange smile on Uns' face, the kind of smile she gives only when she wants me to do something for her, and I was already preparing myself to fulfill her request.

"Aziz," her voice was exceptionally sweet.

"Yes, begum?" I asked with a smile.

"Look at the sky, do you think it might rain?" Uns asked, looking at the sky through the front mirror.

"It won't rain," I said, looking at her.

"And if it does?" Uns asked, narrowing her eyes slightly.

"Then you win," I said, looking at her.

"And if it doesn't?" came her next question.

"Then too, you win," I said with a smile, looking into her eyes, and a blush appeared on her face.

As soon as I said that, it suddenly started raining.

Seems like even my Allah wants my Uns to win.

"Lets enjoy in the rain?" I offered.

"No," she instantly replied.

"Why begum?" I asked in surprise.

"You'll fall sick, Nader," Uns said with concern.

"I won't," I said, unfastening my seatbelt and trying to convince her. I got out and opened the door for her, and as we held hands, we both leaned against the car and looked up at the sky.

The road was empty, with only a few cars passing by.

"You know, Aziz, I haven't gotten wet in the rain for the past seven years," Uns said, playing with the rainwater in her hands.

"Why?" I asked gently, looking at her.

"Tum, yaad aate the isliye," Uns said, glancing at me briefly before resuming her play with the water in her hand.

(Because it reminded me of you).

I just smiled at her response.

"And do you know, Uns, I haven't missed a single rain in the past seven years. I've gotten wet in every rain," I said, looking at her.

"Why?" Uns asked this time.

"Kyun ki baarish mein tum aur bhi yaad aati thi, mujhe," I said, holding her hand.

(Because I missed you even more in the rain).

And with in seconds a flood of tears streamed from her eyes.

"If you love me so much, then why don't you express it, Nader?" Uns question left me completely silent.

Express my love? I had never said this to her.

"Nader, won't you say anything?" Uns asked, turning towards me and tightening her grip on my hand with great hope.

"My answer is still the same, Uns. I will definitely express my love to you, but not here," I replied calmly, looking at the sky.

"Shall we go home?" she asked indifferently, withdrawing her hand from mine and starting to walk towards the car door. Before she could open it, I did.

Without saying anything, she sat down in silence, and I focused on driving.

I don't understand why I act like this. Why do I take risks with Uns? I thought to myself, sensing her complete silence.

The whole drive was silent, with only the sound of rain and our breathing echoing in the car.

"Uns," I tried to start a conversation.

"Nader, I have a headache. Wake me up when we reach home," Uns said before I could say anything else. She turned her head towards the window, closed her eyes, and pretended to sleep, using the headache as an excuse.

I continued driving in silence. Is she upset because I didn't express my love?

A few minutes later, the servant opened the gate. I parked the car near the entrance of the house, got out, and gently opened the door for Uns, trying to wake her up.

"Sweetheart, we've reached home. Wake up," I said softly, placing a hand on her shoulder.

Uns opened her eyes, looked at me, and without saying anything, got out of the car and started walking inside.

"Hakeem, take the luggage from the car's trunk and place it on the couch in the hall," I instructed my servant before following Uns.

"Assalamualaikum, Ammi," Uns greeted Ammi as soon as she saw her.

"Walaikum assalam, dear. What have you both done to yourselves? And Aziz, how could you get soaked in the rain knowing you always fall sick?" Ammi responded with concern, and with a hint to scolding.

"It's nothing, Ammi. I'll be fine after taking some medicine. Don't worry," I reassured her as I walked over to her.

"Okay, both of you go and change, then have dinner," Ammi ordered.

"Ah, Ammi, I'm not hungry. I just want to go to my room," Uns said dryly.

"Did you eat outside, beta?" Ammi asked, moving closer to Uns.

"No, Ammi, I just don't feel like eating," Uns replied.

"Alright, you go rest. I'll send some coffee to your room," Ammi said, placing her hand gently on Uns head with a smile.

"Thank you, Ammi," Uns smiled back and then walked straight to her room.

"Aziz, will you at least have dinner?" Ammi asked me.

"No, Ammi, I'm not hungry either," I said, watching Uns walk away.

"Did you two have a fight?" Ammi's question surprised me. How does she always know these things?

"No, we didn't," I tried to cover it up.

"Listen, Aziz, I don't know what happened, but if you did have a fight, just go and make it up with her," Ammi said with love and concern.

"Yes, Ammi," I nodded and started walking towards the kitchen. I made coffee for both of us and headed to our room.

When I opened the door, Uns was already asleep under the blanket. I was about to place the tray on the nightstand when I noticed a note beside a glass of water and a tablet. I picked up the note to read it.

"Take this tablet and sleep; you won't get sick," she wrote a note.

After reading it, an instant smile appeard on my face, with that same smile I went to change my clothes, after changing I came towards our bed and again took that note and kept it in my pocket.

"Will it even work if I take it without eating anything?" I asked, looking at her closed eyes.

"Who told you not to eat? Have some food first, then take the tablet," Uns said firmly, still keeping her eyes closed.

"I won't eat," I replied just as firmly and sat on the bed with my arms crossed.

"What's your problem, Nader?" Uns asked, opening her eyes and giving me a sharp look.

"Nothing," I said, turning my face away.

"Then go eat," she replied.

"Tumhe chod ke kha sakhta hoon, mai? I asked her seriously, looking at her.

(How can I eat without you?)

"I don't want to eat," she said.

"Neither do I," I replied.

"You're really annoying me, Nader!" Uns yelled in frustration and got up.

And somehow, I found her cute even when she was angry. Maybe I'm shameless, loving my wife even when she's scolding me, but what can I even do? She looks cute.

"I'm scolding you, and you're smiling, Aziz? Don't you have any sense of shame?" she continued scolding me, and I just smiled even more.

"Aziz, you don't need to end up in the hospital so soon. Get a grip," I tried to calm myself.

"The coffee's getting cold. Will you drink it?" I asked, holding up the tray with the coffee.

"I'll just drink the coffee," she said firmly, picking up the cup.

"Alright, I'll too drink my coffee and then go to sleep," I said, taking a sip of the coffee.

"Aziz!" Uns said loudly as she put down the coffee tray.

"What happened?" I asked, looking at her in surprise.

"Will you listen to me?" Uns asked as she took the tray from my hands, placed it on the bed, and held my hand, coming closer.

"Tumhe toh, zindagi bhar ke liye sun sakhta hoon, Uns" I said, caressing her hands.

(I could listen to you for a lifetime).

"I don't even know why I get angry with you, Aziz," Uns began to say.

"Tumhara haqh hai, mujh seh naraaz hona, aur mera farz hai tumhe manaana, begum," I said, running my fingers through her hair.

(You have every right to be upset with me, and it's my duty to make it up to you, begum).

"You're not tired of me, are you?" Uns asked, her voice carrying a strange emotion, as if she was uncertain about why she was asking me these things.

"Sweetheart, what's wrong? Why are you asking me all this?" I asked, moving closer and gently caressing her cheek.

"I don't know, I just feel scared, Nader," she said softly.

"Scared of what, begum?" I started to feel a strange unease here.

"Scared that if you get tired of me, and then if you leave me-"

"I love you, Uns," I interrupted her, saying the three words I wanted to tell her for so long.

Uns instantly looked at me, and tears started flowing from her eyes like a flood again. And this time, the confession of love came from me, and my eyes weren't down this time, instead, I forgot to even blink while looking at her.

"Aren't you going to reply to me?" I asked her in a teasing tone.

"No," she said, still being slightly upset.

"Alright, its fine, take you time, but atleast come here," I said, and Uns laid her head in my lap.

"You look even more beautiful when you cry, sweetheart," I said, caressing her hair with so much love.

"Don't I look good when I smile, Nader?" Uns asked, raising her eyes to look at me.

"No," I said with a laugh.

"Really?" Uns started to get upset again.

"Your smile is very dangerous, Sweetheart. Just one smile from you could take my life," I teased her and kissed her forehead.

"You are incredibly shameless, Nader," Uns said sarcastically.

"Maybe," I said, still laughing.

"Begum, you didn't show me your dress?" I asked, again kissing her forehead.

"Wait, let me show you now," Uns's face suddenly lit up with happiness.

She was about to get up when I kissed her forehead again.

"You're impossible, Nader," she said, laughing as she got up.

"Where are the bags?" Uns asked, looking around the room.

"Bags? Oh, they're downstairs. I'll go get them," I said, getting up from the bed and heading towards the door.

"Should I come too?" Uns asked.

"No, I'll bring them," I said as I went downstairs to get the shopping bags.

When I went downstairs, I saw two CEOs sitting on the couch in the hall, looking exhausted but sipping tea. As I picked up the bag and approached them, I noticed an odd smile spreading across both their faces.

Samir was clearly on cloud nine after meeting Sahara, but what had happened to Tamir? He was sitting there holding his tea like a statue.

"Tamir? Are you okay?" I flicked my fingers in front of his face.

"Huh? I-I'm sorry!" he suddenly began apologizing.

I looked at Samir, who tried to assure me with his eyes that Tamir was fine.

"What happened to him?" I asked Samir with a gesture.

"He just met his beloved," Samir said calmly, and the bag slipped from my hands.

"When?" I asked, instantly sitting down on the couch.

"Today, at the mall," Samir said, taking another sip of his tea.

"Did you get her name?" I asked, curiosity rising in me.

"Your brother is an idiot, Aziz. He didn't get her name, but he did flirt with her," Samir said, sarcastically.

"I wasn't flirting! It just slipped out of my mouth," Tamir finally came to his senses.

"Whatever you call it, we call it flirting only," Samir said casually.

"What did Tamir say?" My curiosity was peaking now.

"Tell us, Tamir. What did you say?" Samir asked, giving Tamir a stern look.

"Nothing special," Tamir replied.

"And don't talk to me, Samir," Tamir suddenly snapped, getting up angrily and heading towards his room.

"So, what did Tamir actually say?" I asked eagerly to Samir.

"I don't know," Samir replied with a laugh.

"You really don't know, Samir?" I asked in surprise.

"Not at all, Aziz. I was just teasing him," Samir shamelessly admitted.

"Unbelievable, Samir. You're so shameless," I tried to sound serious but failed. A couple of seconds later, we both burst out laughing.

"Pray that Tamir finds his beloved," I said, trying to control my laughter, as I picked up the bags and headed towards the stairs.

"Aziz, be ready tomorrow. I might need your help," Samir said, picking up his tea cup.

"I don't help for free, Samir. If there's a deal, let me know," I replied calmly.

"I'm your brother Aziz," Samir reminded me.

"That's what I regret the most, Samir, " I shot back, reminding him as well.

"You're going to pay for this, Aziz," Samir tried to sound threatening.

"I'm afraid of one woman, that's more than enough. What am I supposed to do being afraid of you?" I said calmly and without looking at him, I started heading towards the room.

When I opened the door, Uns was straightening the bedsheets.

"Your shopping bags, Begam," I said, entering the room.

"Thank you for bringing them. Sit on the bed; I want to show you everything," Uns said, taking the bags from my hand with excitement and placing them on the bed, starting to pull things out.

I sat on the bed, watching her every move. It felt like nothing else mattered when she was around me.

"This suit is for you. Wear it tomorrow," Uns said, pulling out the first item, which was for me.

"Why did you buy it for me? I can wear anything, Begam," I said, taking the suit in my hand.

"No, you will wear this, Aziz," Begam said firmly, and I nodded. Obviously, I didn't have the option to refuse.

"These shoes will look good on you. Wear them," Uns said, handing me the second item she had bought for me.

"A tie will also look good on you, Nader. Wear this too," Uns said, placing the tie in my hand.

"Your perfume was running out, so I thought I'd buy it. Here, take this as well," Uns was handing me one item after another, and I was surprised because I had given her the card to spend on herself, not on me.

"And these are some handkerchiefs. Why do you always use white ones, Nader? Change it up," Begam ordered as she handed me the box.

"Did you get anything for yourself, sweetheart? Why did you spend so much on me for no reason? You should've bought something for yourself," I asked, placing everything beside the bed and moving closer to her while back hugging her.

"Tum bhi toh mere apne hein ho, Nader, aur tumhare liye nahi Khari dungi toh kiske liye khari dungi? Uns asked with a smile as she moved closer and gently kissed my cheek.

(Even you're mine too, Nader. If I don't buy something for you, then who will I buy it for?)

"Do you like the color of the suit?" Uns asked with curiosity.

"Your choice is good," I complimented her.

"Of course it is, just look at me," Begam teased. I mean, I'm trying to be decent here, but Begam seems to be in a different mood today.

"Aren't you teasing me alot, Begam," I tried teasing her back.

Uns didn't say anything in response, but an unusual shyness started to glow on her face.

"Now show me your dress," I whispered as I pulled her even more closer and moved towards her ear.

"You'll have to let go of me first, Nader, only then I can show you," Uns chuckled.

"I can't let you go," I whispered again.

"Alright, hold me a bit tighter then," Begam ordered with a laugh, and following her command, I placed both my hands on her waist and pulled her closer to my chest.

Sweetheart, then took out her wedding dress from the bag.

"Isn't it too heavy?" I asked, looking at the dress.

"I liked its color, that's why. Do you like it?" Uns asked, turning slightly to look at me with hope in her eyes.

"Everything looks good on you, Sweetheart," I said with a smile, then softly kissed her cheek.

"Can you try it on for me?" I requested.

"Now?" Uns asked.

"Yes, I want to see it," I said, resting my head on her shoulder.

"Then you'll have to let me go, Nader, so I can change," Uns said, and even though I didn't want to let her go, the desire to see her in that dress forced me to release her.

"Come back quickly," I said eagerly.

"I will," Uns said, closing the washroom door.

A few minutes later, Uns came towards me, wearing her Walima dress.

"Ma sha Allah," was the only word that escaped from my lips when I saw her.

Aur kehta bhi kya mai? Isse paak lafz koi ho sakhta hai, is paak aurat ki khubsurti ko banyan karne ke liye?

(And what else could I say? Is there any pure word than this to describe the beauty of this pure woman?)

"How do I look?" Uns asked with a smile.

"Jannat ki noor lagh rahi ho," I said, gazing at her, then walked over to her, kissed her forehead, and embraced her.

(You look like the light of paradise).

"Mere Allah, neh tumhe bade naaz seh banaya hai, Uns," I said, kissing the top of her head.

(My Allah has created you with great care, Uns).

"Aur mai waada karta hoon, ki mai us khuda ka maan rakhunga," I said, looking into her eyes.

(And I promise, I will honor the will of that God).

"What suddenly happened to you, Nader?" Uns asked, a bit uneasily.

"Nothing, I just can't believe that you're with me, Uns," I tried my best to control my tears. I didn't want to cry in front of her. Not when she is happy right now.

"Where's the jewelry?" I asked, noticing her empty ears.

"Oops! I completely forgot to buy the jewelry!" Uns said with a nervous smile.

"Of course, how will you even remember, Uns. When you did all the shopping only for me?" I didn't want to scold her, but what can I do, my wife doesn't listen to me either.

"I have some jewelry; I'll just wear them, Nader," Uns tried to smooth over the situation.

"Wait a minute," I said, heading towards my wardrobe. I opened it, took out seven boxes from the locker, and handed them to her.

"What's this?" Uns asked, confused.

"Jewelry," I replied.

"Whose?" she asked, surprised.

"Yours," I answered.

"Mine?" Uns questioned again.

"Kya kahu, Uns, tum meri zaat ka itna yehem hissa ban chuki thi, ki jab tak tumhare liye kuch karidna leta mujhe eid, eid na laghti thi, So, along with Ammi and Rasha, I'd always buy something for you too. I hope you like it," I said, pouring out my heart in one breath.

(Um... How do I put this, Uns? Every Eid, I couldn't truly feel the celebration unless I bought something for you).

But Uns didn't respond. There was no surprise, no smile on her face, just tears welling up in her eyes.

"Begum, say something," I began to feel anxious.

"Don't love me so much, Nader," she said after a brief silence.

"Mohabbat nahi, Uns, Ishq hai tumse, kaise na karu?" I asked softly.

(It's not just love, Uns; it's Ishq. How can I not love you?)

"I'll go change," Uns said, stuttering as she headed to the washroom.

And I stood there, thanking my Allah for giving me the greatest blessing of my life.
