CHAPTER 47- DISTANCES~ Ayesha💕

Met by Destiny

A Y E S H A :-

I close my textbook hearing my husband entering inside our room. I give him a smile and get up from the bed to greet him,

"You worked really late today," I say giving him a hug,

"Was struck in a meeting." He sighs tiredly, giving my forehead a kiss, "How was your day?"

"Nothing special," I reply, taking his blazer from him, "Studied for my mids."

He paused removing his watch, "You are having mids? From when?"

"From next week." I reply, "Why ask?"

He shakes his head opening the top buttons of his shirt, "I have to go Istanbul next week for a meeting, I was thinking to take you with me."

I pout, watching him walk in his wardrobe, "When are you leaving?"

"Next Monday." He replies, taking off his shirt.

"Dang it." I curse silently, moving forward to place his blazer in the hamper, "My exams starts the next day." He chuckles taking out a t-shirt from a hanger, "When will you be back?"

"In four to five days," he says carrying his clothes in his hands, "Couldn't leave my wife alone for so long."

I hum dis heartedly, I am not sad because he's going to Istanbul all alone, I am sad because I would be alone without him for the first time since seven months of our marriage. And now that I realise I can't live without him, it seems kind of impossible now.

"Come back," Farhan snaps his fingers in front of my face, "It's alright, we'll go on a nice vacation after you graduate." He chuckles tapping my nose.

"I am not thinking about that," I sigh, leaning against the wall, "This would be the first time, we would be...you know separated." I look down, "You made me used to you so much in these seven months, I don't know how am I going to stay without you for five days."

He smiles, stepping closer to me, lifting my chin in his hand, "I wouldn't have gone without you, even I am used to you, I promise I will try to come back to you as soon as possible."

I chuckle shaking my head, "No don't do that, concentrate on your work, work always comes first."

"But i'd like to come back to my wife first." He says sliding his hands around my waist.

I place my hands on his shoulder and grin, "Then don't go."

He shrugs guiltily, "That is kind of impossible."

"But you know what's possible?" I tease biting my lip,

His eyes lit up mischievously, "Oh I know." he grins leaning closer, and I duck away moving away from his arms.

"Me making you dinner," I laugh pointing at his expressions, "Fresh and up and come down fast."

I turn away walking towards the door, Farhan chuckles saying, "Someone's going to pay for it."

***

I watch silently, looking at my husband who was fast asleep, with a smile I lean down and push back the strands of his hair from his forehead and give it a kiss.

It was Sunday, and he is leaving tomorrow morning, I don't know what is it, but the thought of being away from him doesn't sit right with me. Now I understand why my mom used to cry so much when baba used to go somewhere for work.

I used to think, why would she cry when baba would be back in two days? But now I understand, when you get married, your life gets attached to another person, not even a day without them feels the same. It feels like a connection of white clouds on clear blue sky, so perfect when together, without one of them, it is always plain and dark.

Words would never be able to describe how much I've started loving this man.

With a startling realisation, I sat up on the bed, looking at Farhan in shock. I've never said Farhan I love him.

How should I say to him, should I wake him up and say I love you? No. That would be too impractical. Would it be too awkward if I say it randomly in a conversation and act like it was really normal? Or should I make it special?

I am a hopeless romantic and I've always thought of saying my husband I love you a lot more than I would breath, that's why I started writing those letters-

Letter. I grin, yes I could write him a letter.

My eyes widen when I remember all those letters I wrote previously, where are those?

Carefully, without disturbing Farhan, I quietly walk in the wardrobe, and look around in my cupboard for the boxes I brought from my parents house,

I reached behind my shoes compartment and grin happily when I felt a cardboard box in my hand, taking it out, I peel off the tape from the box and almost suppressed a squeal when I see a familiar wooden box,

I close the cupboard doors and tip toe to the couch and pick up a paper from my practice books and leaned back on the couch.

Not getting any inspiration, I looked at the balcony and smiled. I picked the paper and book with a pen and walked towards the balcony quietly.

The cool night breeze greet me as I take a seat on my favourite swing. Tucking my legs up and looking at the flowers of my little garden, I wrote my feelings to my husband on the paper.

Almost one hour later when I was done writing my letter, I kept reading it, imagining the anticipation of his response, or how he would react.

I flinch when I heard the balcony door being open, I quickly close the notebook, and turn to look at a sleepy Farhan, who stood by the frame and stared at me,

"What are you doing here?" His voice gruff from sleep,

"Revision." I squeak, showing him my notebook.

He sighs nearing me, "Don't stress yourself," he says grabbing the sides of the swing and looks down at me.

"You are going to be a topper this year." He says, and I hum distractedly, looking at his bulging biceps, and a glimpse of his hard chest, peeking under from his black adidas vest.

"Yeah.." I mutter distractedly.

"Then let's sleep, we don't want to miss our flight to Maldives." He says moving away the strands of my hair,

I smile lousily looking at his messy hairstyle, "You are right."

Then it clicks me and I snap out of my trance looking at his teasing grin, "You liar." I gasp getting up and smacking him with my notebook.

He chuckles walking behind me as I walk out of the balcony and place my book back on the coffee table.

"You were in a trance woman." He chuckles laying back on the bed.

"Was not." I argue sliding in the bed and near him, "You are not that special you know."

His grin drops and he raises an eyebrow, he slides his arm around my waist and rolls on top of me, balancing his hands on either side of me, "Say that now."

I move towards his ear and whisper, "You are not special."

He chuckles darkly, "You messed up bad."

And after that he just proved me how special and amazing he was all night.

***

I sigh anxiously looking at our suitcases at the porch steps, Farhan locks the main door and gives Jameel instruction to stay on alternative days duty.

"All set?" Farhan asks, my gut rolls with anxiety seeing him all ready.

"No." I say trying not to cry.

"Hey," Farhan removes his sunglasses, walking towards me, "Don't cry, I will be back in five days, I promise."

I look at him with my eyes filled with tears,

"Alright, four days?" He compensates, "Please don't cry." He wraps his hands around my shoulder and pulls me in a hug.

"I hate how we both are leaving but to different destinations." I say, holding him closer,

Farhan said he couldn't leave me alone for five days in our house, so he told me to live with parents for a while as my university is near and I could prepare for my exams without worrying about anything.

"Don't say like that now, Inshallah we both will be together soon, hm?" He rubs my tapping my nose, "Cheer up." He says wiping my tears away.

"Atleast let me drive you to the airport," I insists, and he shakes his head.

"No need of it, Jameel is driving me." He says. "Besides, you'll get even more emotional and I don't want to leave seeing you in tears."

A car honk is heard near the gate and we see my brother waving, rolling down his car window,

"And here's Murat." I say, my heart beating dangerously in my chest.

I asked Murat to pick me up, because Farhan didn't wanted to leave me alone, he insisted on driving me to my parents house but that goes way out of his route to the airport.

"Alright, so this is it?" Farhan says moving away from me and asks Jameel to put his suitcase in the car.

"Yeah." My voice breaks and Farhan turns around in alert, "I am sorry I can't control it," I say as tears fall down on my face.

"Ayesha," Farhan sighs giving me a hug and kisses on top of my head, "It will be just matter of time, five days will go by in seconds. I will be back before you even know it."

"I know," I cry silently, "I am emotional, let me cry."

"Don't cry my love," he sighs, "Stay happy okay." He kisses my forehead and moves away as Murat walks towards us.

"Ready to go madam?" Murat asks giving a bright smile, "I will take your suitcase," he picks up my suitcase and greets Farhan, "Alright then see you man." He shakes his hand with Farhan and gives him a quick hug.

"Okay, I will go now," I say quietly moving away from Farhan, "Call me once you reach airport," I say wiping away my tears, "And when you land."

He nods, "I will. Don't worry about anything, concentrate on your studies and take care of yourself."

I nod, "Don't look at me." I say walking down the porch stairs, "I won't let you go then."

I heard him chuckling as I walk down the stairs towards the gate, I heard him calling my name when I neared the gate,

I turn around to look at him walking towards me, with quick strides he reached me and swopped in a tight hug.

I place my hands around his back and soak in the moment, when he didn't left me, I chuckle softly, "Who's emotional now?"

"No, I just.." he says moving back, "Just felt like it." He shrugs caressing my knuckles, "You are right this seems harder than I thought."

I smile, blinking back my tears, "We will meet soon, inshallah."

He nods looking down at my hands, "Inshallah."

I turn my head hearing Murat's car honk, I turn back to my husband and squeezed his hands, "Let's go now, Hm?"

He nods reluctantly and the hold of his hand starts loosening as I moved away, until our hands moved away completely.

With one last wave towards him, I turn back and controlled my tears walking towards Murat's car.

I sat down in the car and roll down the window, watching my husband standing at the same spot, I give him a wave as the car started moving, I watch him through the side mirror, his reflection getting far until it wasn't visible.

***

I look at the moon from my room's window, watching the full moon on the dark background, enhancing the beauty of the dark and lonely sky.

A moon is what a dark sky needs.

I smile when I heard my phone ringing, keeping my tea cup on the nightstand, skipping happily I picked it up on the second ring and sat on my bed.

"Hello?" We both said in sync.

We both chuckle, "How are you?" We say it together again.

I smack my forehead, why am I behaving like a teenager?

"Good," he replies, "What were you doing?"

I lay back on my bed, "Nothing just got off from studying. Had dinner?"

"Just had dinner, mom made this amazing biryani and I broke all my diet." Farhan chuckles and I smile,

"Don't tempt me." I whine, picking up the cup of tea, "I am drinking this amazing cup of tea." I tease.

"Ah now I just miss our nightly cup of tea." Farhan groans, "Don't tempt me."

I chuckle, "So how was work?"

"Good. My client Khan, was really difficult to break, and to top it all he even brought his co-founder, who was way more worse than her friend."

I chuckle, "They do business together?"

"Yeah it's their family business which they are continuing, I showed them my work and they seem interested, I am hoping our company would get it."

"Inshallah you will." I say confidently, "My husband is talented like that."

Farhan chuckles, "How are your exams going?"

I sigh placing my now empty cup on the nightstand, "Hectic, I feel so lonely, all my friends graduated and I feel so odd giving exams with my juniors."

"It's alright, you will get through it, my wife is talented like that." He copies me and I laugh,

"It's my last exam tomorrow and Sakina has planned that we both are going to this spring festival in the evening." I say looking at the moon through the window.

Farhan hums, "Sounds interesting you should go. Should I ask Jameel to drop you?"

"No no, she said she will pick and drop me," I sigh, "I really want to procrastinate but I don't want to break her heart." I say rolling over on my bed, playing with my pillow, "When are you coming back, I am kind of bored without you."

Farhan chuckles, "Day after tomorrow, as I promised."

"Alright." I bit my lip excitedly, "How's everyone over there?"

"Great, mama really misses you and you can't believe we never have a conversation without a mention of you." He says, "Seems like you left quite a impact on my family."

I shrug indefinitely, "I am a charmer like that."

We talk for a while about our day, when I remember about my box, I sat up straighter and asked him, "Did you...um wore all of your formals I packed?"

"No not all, I still haven't wore the maroon shirt, it was at the bottom so I kept it for the last day, why ask?"

I hum in relief, I kept my little box of letters under that maroon shirt which he haven't opened till now, and honestly speaking I am kind of regretting it now.

"Nothing just keeping up with my wife duties." I try to play it cool.

"Alright." He chuckles awkwardly, "Forgot to tell you, bi jaan called today and guess what, she remembered your name."

I smile, "Knew I was special."

"That I couldn't argue on." He says.

I bit my lip before asking, "So are you still doing your other...business?" I ask referring to the talk we had few days ago,

He answers after a while, "I am," he says hesitantly, "Let's not talk about it, I don't want to sour our moods."

I nod, "Alright," I say unsurely, "So tell what else did you do today?"

"Not much, I told you already, I don't what else to say more, you say about yours," he says,

I smile, shaking my head, "Already did."

We both sigh, this is the part where we both dread during the nights, ending the call.

"I hate this part." Farhan confess,

"Me too," I agree, "It's not difficult to strike a conversation in person than talking on the phone." I sigh shaking my leg, "How do people do long distance?"

"Thank god we don't have to and never will, Farhan yawns, "Keep talking."

"You must be tired," I say thinking of his cute face when he is sleepy.

"You must be too," Farhan says, "Alright, I'll let you sleep for today, you have an exam tomorrow, besides you won't be able to sleep from the day after."

I gasp, "Farhan?"

"What?" I could hear the smirk from his voice, "I was talking about us talking all night, what did you thought?"

I chuckle, "Nothing."

"Alright then," he laughs, "Should I hung up now?"

Something came up in my mind and I say, "No um,"

"You want to say something?" He asks,

I sit straighter on my bed, "Yes actually," I say carefully, "I just want to say be careful Farhan," he remained silent, "Whatever you might do be careful."

"I know you might not agree on what I said, but please remember you have me waiting for you." I say swallowing the gravel in my throat.

"Ayesha," he sighs, "Don't worry about that, I don't want you to stress on it." I wipe the corner of my eye, "And I am waiting to meet you too."

I chuckle, "You better hurry up then, I won't wait if you are late."

"Alright, it's a mission then," he laughs, "Good night my love."

"No say Allahafiz, it is more meaningful." I say,

"Alright, Allahafiz." He says.

"Allahafiz." I reply and wait until the last ring of the call end was heard.

***

"Mom, I am going. I will be back in two hours." I call out to mom, after hearing Sakina's car honk,

"Wait!" Mom calls out as I wear my platform sandals. "Beta I was thinking, if it would be okay you don't go?"

I look at her in surprise, "Why what's wrong mom?"

She shakes her head, "Nothing, I think I am being paranoid again, it's just that you came to visit me after so long and we didn't spend any time together, maybe that's why."

"Oh mama," I coo, giving her cheek a kiss, "I am sorry for that, but I promise when I will be back, we will have a nice cup of tea and enjoy a nice conversation, and spill all the tea, sounds good?"

She chuckles, hesitancy still on her face? But she nods giving my cheek a kiss, "Be careful."

"I will." I reply grabbing my black handbag and give her cheek another kiss. "Allahafiz, love ya!"

I open the main door and walk towards Sakina's car by the gate, I sat in the passenger seat and give my mom a last wave before Sakina drive off towards the main road.

"How was your exam junior?" Sakina asks wearing her sunglasses.

"Good, and I am not junior." I counter back, selecting a podcast on Sakina's phone, which she always listens and connect it to the Bluetooth.

"Touchy." She chuckles, "How is the wedding shopping going?"

"Great, yesterday mom and Safa finalised her reception outfit," I reply rolling down the windows and relish the warm spring air,

"That's amazing," she replies, "And when is your Oppa coming?"

I shake my head, "Tomorrow, k-drama girl."

It is kind of ironic how Sakina is a pure turkish but hates turkish dramas, which the world loves and she is totally obsessed with Korean dramas. Nothing wrong but I guess girl just loves some cute romance.

"Someone seems excited." She sings, "Just like Su-ho was excited to meet min-joon, Ahh!" She squeals, "My babies."

"Us or them?" I ask sceptically.

"Of course them." She chuckles and I smack her arm, "Ouch, I am driving, idiot."

"As if I didn't saw," I poke my tongue out.

"Just say you are jealous." She mimics me.

"Of course I am not," I scoff mockingly, "They are fictional and I am not."

Sakina pouts, "Ouch."

"I think we reached our location," I say pointing at the banner of spring festival near the fair entrance.

"Oh yes we did." Sakina mutters looking around for a parking spot.

Soon she found a parking spot far from the entrance because of the rush and we had to walk all the way to the entrance.

"I hate walking." I whine,

"No way human, don't be ridiculous." Sakina says, her phone rings in her hand, she sees the screen and silences her phone.

"Why is Dorok calling you?" I ask taking a look at her mobile screen.

"That idiot keeps randomly calling me, says something annoying that's it." Sakina shrugs.

"Is he bothering?" I ask holding her elbow, "If he is tell me, I'll talk to him."

She shakes her head, "No no, it's not like that, he knows his limit and even he tries to go overboard, I know how to handle him, don't worry babes," she says slinging her arm across my shoulder,

"And can we stop talking about him and anyone else and enjoy our fair!" She says excitedly pointing at the large flower board, "Let's go!" She drags me with her to the ticket counter.

After a long line, we both got our ticket and entered inside the fair, there were fast food shops, street food and sweet shops, everywhere along with the rides and buzz of people around us making me flow along the vibe of the fair.

"Should we eat something?" I ask Sakina and she nodded, we both had lychee and raspberry sorbet and later we both even went on few rides,

There were local shops everywhere, selling jewellery, cloths and handbags, Sakina took a video for her Snapchat and posted a story of us, we both kept walking around the fair until I pointed at the large fountain in the middle, which was a jug pouring out water in the little pound, the jug was decorated largely with all kinds of flowers.

"Let's take a photo over there." Sakina point and I nodded following her,

While walking towards the fountain, I accidentally bump into a small boy who looked fairly scared and mortified. "Are you lost?" I ask him carefully,

"No," he squeaks before running off,

"That was weird." I mutter before Sakina dragged me all the way to the fountain's other side,

"Okay stand here," Sakina points at a spot and I stood there as she clicked my pictures,

She hands my phone back to me and I grin at the pictures before sending it to my husband,

"Now yours?" I ask Sakina and she shook her head,

"No I- oh no," her voice was full of unknown fear and her face seemed noticeably pale,

"What's wrong?" Before I could even ask, I felt Sakina grabbing my arm and rushing away before a huge defusing noise was heard, which made my ear ring dangerously and all the dust and soot surrounded me,

The screams of people, the ringing of my ears all felt silent as I saw darkness and then nothing.
