Chapter 25
Falling for My Contractual Wife
âDo you not know? A colleague on the night shift yesterday said that Dr. Vance came to bring this patient for treatment in the middle of the night. He was even in his pajamas!â Another nurse turned to tell her.
âOh! It seems like this patient has a special identity, huh? Dr. Vance, is there something significant about this?â
A gentle smile played on Justinâs face as he said, âDonât tease me Get back to work, all of youâ
Without acknowledging or denying anything, he left room for everyoneâs imagination After completing the hospital admission procedures, Justin returned to the hospital room. It was now nearing noon, and he saw Grace still lying alone in the bed. He asked, âWhere are your family members?
âNo family members. Is it necessary to have them here?â Grace shook her head.
care Justin pressed his forehead, thinking that she had finally agreed to be hospitalized because someone would take care of her. However, he didnât expect that she planned to stay in the hospital alone. He asked, âWhat are you having for lunch?â
âI just ordered takeout,â she replied.
âYouâre pregnant, do you realize that? Staying in the hospital without anyone to take care of you is one thing, but youâre still ordering takeout! Justin was surprised, his jaw dropping, and at the same time, a trace of concern flickered in his heart Grace smiled: âDo you think Iâm pitiful, Dr. Vance? In truth, she had already become accustomed to it âYou rest first. Iâll instruct the nurses to keep an eye on you, Justin said helplessly At noon Justin came in with a nutritious meal. He placed the food by the bedside and said, âThis is a nutritious meal from the hospital cafeteria. The taste might not be particularly delicious, but itâs rich in nutrients, and cleanliness and hygiene are guaranteed. Iâve ordered five daysâ worth of these meals for you, and someone will deliver them to you every day at noon from now on âDr. Vance, thank you,â Grace said, looking at the hearty lunch. Tears welled up in her eyes, and she looked at him with gratitude Justin took out a tissue and wiped away her tears. Seeing the needle still in her hand, he spoke with a gentle voice, âLet me feed youâ
Grace wasnt used to being fed, especially by her attending physician, Justin. It felt too intimate and inappropriate in this Situation âDr. Vance, I can manage on my own. You havenât had lunch, right? Please go and have your mealâ
Grace said, taking the spoon from his hand She scooped up a big bite and put it in her mouth. However, as soon as she ate it, she felt uncomfortable in her stomach, covering her mouth and desperately trying to endure it Justin swiftly kicked the trash can over, saying, âDonât hold it in. If you feel like vomiting, just let it out.â
S SMN M 46% 20:10 Grace couldnât hold it any longer. Disregarding her image, she bent over the bedside and vomited loudly.
Just as the cleaning staff happened to come in to change the garbage bag, watching Grace vomit uncontrollably, she couldnât help but ask, âMiss, are you pregnant?â
Grace wiped the corners of her mouth with a tissue and replied, âYes.â
âWhile changing the garbage bag, the cleaning staff said, âYou must be around two months pregnant, right? At this time, morning sickness is most severe. I experienced the same when I was pregnant with my daughter. Eating oranges helps. Just eat a few pieces before meals, and it works well.â
Justin was intrigued by her words. âOranges?â
âYeah, but we canât find these fruits in Mantos. They are only available in Lostara. Besides, considering the current weather, I reckon oranges are almost out of season,â the cleaning staff said with a smile.
She then replaced the garbage bag and left.
Grace drank a lot of water from her glass, diluting the nauseous feeling in her stomach. Only then did she pick up the spoon again to resume eating.
With each bite, she almost held her breath before swallowing.
Justin stood by her side, making her feel uneasy. She repeatedly urged him to go back.
He had no choice but to leave.
Walking back to the office, he took out his phone and made a call, engaging in a conversation with the other person in a notâsoâfluent language.
In the afternoon.
Before dinner, Justin suddenly walked in carrying a bag.
Grace looked at the contents. âWhatâs this?â
âOranges.â Justin placed the items on the table and handed her a few.
Grace suddenly remembered the cleaning staffâs words from noon and looked at him in surprise. âDid you buy these? Where did you get them? There shouldnât be any here in Mantos, right?â
âA friend helped ship these over. Dinner is almost ready. Try eating these and see if they help after you finish,â Justin said casually.
Grace looked at him, unsure of how to express her gratitude.
Seeing her remain still for a while, he asked, âWhatâs wrong? Donât feel like eating?â
Grace shook her head, resisting the urge to cry. She peeled an orange and took a bite. It was quite sour, but the more sour it was, the more she wanted to eat.
The sour feeling was even more intense, as it had been far too long since someone had cared for her and looked after her.
dd MM Tears finally couldnât be held back and began to fall.
-2 Why âWhatâs wrong? Why are you crying?â Justin asked anxiously.
âDr. Vance, try one, and youâll understand why Iâm crying,â Grace said with a smile.

Graceâs morning sickness did really get much better. Justin had arranged for a lot of it to be shipped, filling an entire refrigerator and providing enough for her meals during the five days of hospitalization.
The news about Justin shipping fruits for Grace, arranging her hospitalization, and all the other things spread throughout the hospital. The nurses who secretly admired him were all heartbroken, and only the nurse who took care of Grace that day hurried to her hospital room.
The young nurse, candid and straightforward, looked at her disapprovingly. âArenât you married and pregnant? Why are you persistently entangled with Dr. Vance?â
Grace was momentarily taken aback by her words but quickly realized that the young nurse had a crush on Justin. She smiled and said, âYes, I am married. Dr. Vance and I are just friends.â
âI donât believe it!â
Grace smiled and asked, âDo you like Dr. Vance?â
âWho doesnât like Dr. Vance? Donât you also like him?â
âYoung girl, admitting that you like Dr. Vance is brave, but you should be even braver to pursue him. A man as wonderful as Dr. Vance is hard to find, and if you donât chase after him, are you going to wait for him to drop into your lap?â
The young nurse looked distressed. âDr. Vance is gentle and kind to everyone. The more so, the harder he is to pursue.â
In Graceâs eyes, the young nurse seemed like a naive girl. After offering her some encouragement, the nurse regained her determination to pursue Dr. Vance.
The young nurse had initially come to question her, but no matter how she looked at Grace, she found her difficult to dislike.
Having stayed in the hospital for two days, Grace received a call from Melvin.
âMiss Sherman, is your health okay? Mr. Brian hasnât returned home since you left,â Melvin inquired over the phone.
Grace asked in confusion, âMelvin, why are you calling me if heâs not coming home? Heâs not a child. If heâs not at home, heâs probably with Miss Adkins. What are you worried about?â
âNo, he is not with Miss Adkins. Today, she even called to ask how Mr. Brianâs been these last few days,â Melvin clarified.
Grace fell silent for a moment and then asked, âSo, what are you implying?â
âMiss Sherman, could you please call Mr. Brian and check on him?â
