Chapter 34
Falling for My Contractual Wife
Avaâs eyes widened in surprise.
âDo I mishear her? Is Louise asking me to go to Brianâs house?â Ava thought.
âWhatâs wrong? Donât you want to go?â Louise asked with a smile when she saw the surprised look on Avaâs face.
âNo! I do!â Ava said almost immediately.
Realizing that she sounded too eager, Ava cleared her throat. âDonât get me wrong. I didnât agree to it because of you. I agreed to go for Brianâs sake.â
Louise had a gentle smile on her face. Meanwhile, Louise was mentally sneering at Ava.
âIdiot! She really thinks too highly of herself. As long as I donât agree, Ava wonât be able to step through the doors of the Francis family for the rest of her life. She doesnât even have a bit of gratitude!â Louise thought.
Shannon was also shocked. The other day, Ava acted provocatively towards Louise during their meal, admitting that she liked Brian.
Louise knew that Ava liked Brian yet still asked her to go to the Francisâs home. âIs she really that generous or does she have an ulterior motive?â Shannon thought.
Shannon was a worldly person, but she couldnât see through Louise.
Shannon knew her own daughter only too well. âWhat should I do if Ava went over to the Francisâs home and caused trouble?â Shannon thought.
Thinking of this, Shannon tried to dissuade Ava. âAva, what are you going there for? Youâre so clumsy.
Youâll only cause trouble for your older sister.â
Ava looked at her mother in shock.
âWhat is she saying? She doesnât help me fight for the chance to marry Brian, and now sheâs preventing me from going to Brianâs home! Is she really my real mom? Ava thought.
âMom, what are you talking about? What do you mean by saying I only know to cause trouble?â Ava demanded.
Louise worried that Shannon wouldnât allow Ava to go with her, so Louise hurriedly said, âShannon, that wonât happen. Iâm all by myself in the Francis familyâs home without anybody. I just want someone to talk with.â
Shannon saw that Louise was sincere. Ava was bent on going to the Francis family home. Shannon felt that she might not be able to stop Ava.
âVery well. Just let her test the waters and find out what on earth Louise has up her sleeve; Shannon thought.
Hence, Ava followed Louise to the Francisâs house.
Ava stood at the gate of the Francis estate. Her eyes lit up with excitement. She secretly vowed to take this opportunity to make Brian see how amazing she was, fall in love with her, and then get rid of Louise, this bastard child.
Louise glanced at Ava silently from the side, sneering in her heart as if Louise had already guessed what was going on in Avaâs mind.
Grace was busy working in the kitchen when they walked into the living room.
Louise took Ava on a tour of the villa to familiarize her with the environment. After the stroll, it was already time for lunch.
Louise pulled Ava to the dining room with her. When Louise saw Grace, she said kindly, âGrace, letâs eat together at noon today!â
âMiss Adkins, this is not appropriate. Iâm not hungry right now. If itâs okay, Iâll be going back to my room now.â
Following Graceâs words, Ava looked at Grace, looking Grace up and down rudely. âWho is she?â
Louise smiled and introduced Ava. âHer name is Grace Sherman. She is our maid. She has been here for more than two years. Her culinary skills are superb. Brian is most fond of her cooking.â
As Louise spoke, she sighed. âAlas, itâs a pity that sheâs leaving in two monthsâ time. I think Brian will definitely be reluctant to give her up.â
Grace frowned slightly when she heard Louiseâs words. At first, Louiseâs words sounded like nothing was wrong with them, but if one were to look at them closely, it would be easy for people to misunderstand them.
*Louise, are these the manners of the Francis family? Youâre telling a maid to eat with the owners of the house. Was she always eating with wou before?â Ava smiled contemptuously in her eyes.
Louise smiled awkwardly. âNo. We just eat together once in a while. Grace, this is my sister, Ava. Sheâs very blunt with her words, so donât take it to heart!â
Ava raised her eyebrows. âWhatâs the matter? Does the boss have to mince their owners when speaking to a maid?â
Grace could see that Ava was spoiled and bossy. Ava wasnât easy to deal with. âI canât afford to provoke her, but I can avoid her, Grace thought.
âMiss Adkins, you can eat first. Iâll return to my room.â
âStop!â Avaâs eyes widened in a glare.
Grace paused and heard Ava say arrogantly, âSince you are a maid, you must wait by the side when your masters eat! Havenât you got any manners?â
Grace took a deep breath and stood silently to the side.
Finally, Ava felt pleased with herself. She sat in a chair and glanced at the food on the table, which was indeed full of color and flavor.
Ava felt sour inside. âDoes Brian really like this womanâs cooking? I heard that the way to a manâs heart is through his stomach. This Grace must have improper intentions towards Brian!â Ava thought.
Thinking of this, Ava was already boiling with rage before she even started eating.
She slammed her fork on the table with a snap. âServe me soup!â
Grace was indifferent to Ava and walked over to serve Ava a bowl of soup with a blank face.
âDo you not have any manners at all? Whatâs that face youâre making? Did someone die? Donât you know to say, âMiss Adkins, please enjoy your soupâ?â Ava once again started criticizing Grace.
Grace opened her mouth and said in a nonâwavering tone, âMiss Adkins, please enjoy your soup.â
Ava was a little satisfied and lowered her head to take a sip of the soup.
The delicious fish soup entered her mouth. Her taste buds felt like they were enjoying a grand feast.
Ava couldnât help but take another big sip. It was delicious.
Graceâs food was so delicious that Ava was so busy burying her head in her food that she didnât have time to cause Grace trouble.
After eating, other maids came to clean up the plates and silverware. When Grace was going to eat, a call from Ava stopped her in her tracks.
âWhere are you going? Illâmannered scum.â
Grace was a little irritated and turned to look at Ava. âMiss Adkins, please mind your words. I have a name and surname. My name is Grace Sherman. Being a maid is a proper job. Please give a worker the most basic respect â
âYou!â Ava was mad.
âAlso, itâs my mealtime. If Miss Adkins needs me, then please wait until Iâm at work.â
After Grace finished saying that, she went to the maidâs dining room without looking back.
Avaâs hands trembled with anger. She never thought that a maid would dare to scold her!
Who does she think she is? Sheâs so hateful! Iâm not going to let that slut off so easily! Ava thought.
Louise sneered and smirked before she dropped the look and stepped forward to comfort Ava. âAva, donât take it to heart. After all, she is different from other maids, Brian deeply favors her.â
âDeeply favored? Louise, are you that useless? Who does she think she is? She dares to act high and mighty in front of her superiors! What time does she go to work?â
âTwo oâclock,â Louise said softly.
Ava snorted coldly. âIâm going to take a nap. Iâll handle that little slut later!â
