Chapter 42
Falling for My Contractual Wife
Before Brian could utter a word, Ava rolled her eyes at Melvin and quipped, âWhy do you keep throwing out these dumb questions? Obviously, Brian requires Grace to serve us dinner.â
Hearing that, Brian glared at Ava with his cold eyes. Thus, Ava immediately shut up.
Melvin did not dare to say one more word and asked Grace to be in the dining room.
Brian did not say he wanted Grace to serve them dinner. However, the only reason Grace could think of was that Brian needed her service. Therefore, Grace stood aside like a robot as long as she arrived.
Brian glanced at the wound on Graceâs forehead, thinking, âIt seems to be healing.â
However, Brian felt annoyed when he observed the frosty expression on Graceâs face.
Ava arrogantly ordered Grace to fill her plate. Later, she asked Grace to warm some milk.
Grace did not complain. Instead, she completed all the tasks Ava ordered without saying a word.
Ava felt a sense of superiority when she saw Grace act humbly. When Ava was about to order Grace again, Brian said coldly to Grace, âAre you trying to annoy us with that face? Get lost!â
Ava gloated over Brianâs scolding Grace. Then, she followed and added some mean words.
Louise witnessed everything, mocking Ava inside, âAva is such an idiot.
âBrian did not ask Grace here to do some chores. He made an excuse to check Graceâs injury because he hadnât seen her since he got home.â
Louise chewed her food but could not taste it.
After dinner, Brian turned to Louise and said, âLouise, Iâll be heading out on a business trip for the next few days, starting tomorrow. Iâm worried youâll feel lonely if you stay here. How about going home with Ava and spending some time there?â
Louise was shocked and thought, âWhy didnât Brian invite me to be with him? Instead, he asked me to return to the Adkins familyâs house.
âIs Brian worrying that I will do something to hurt Grace?â Louise felt a surge of anger when she grasped that possibility.
However, Louise managed to conceal her emotions. She said gently, âBrian, honestly, Iâve stayed in your place more than in the Adkins familyâs house since I returned. Iâve already got used to the life here.â
Louise implied she did not want to return to the Adkins familyâs house.
Brianâs expression darkened when he heard that. He looked like he was deep in thought.
âWhat happened? Is anything bothering you? You look like you are in a bad mood recently,â said Louise.
Brian answered plainly, âNo. Nothing.â
Louise asked further, âWhere are you heading for the business trip? How long will you stay there?â
dd M Brian answered, âYuthouburg. Iâll probably stay there for a week.â
Louise nodded thoughtfully and sald, âAlright. Then rest early tonight. Donât work too late.â
âGot it.â
Then, Louise went upstairs to Avaâs room and told Ave that Brian would be on a business trip next week.
The Adkins sisters talked for a while. Louise implied that Ava could do whatever she wanted to Grace from tomorrow. However, Ava seemed to be a bit distracted. Soon, Ava urged Louise to return to her room to get some rest.
Brian stood on his bedroom balcony, casually holding a lit cigarette between his fingers. White smoke lingered in the air.
Someone suddenly knocked on the door. Brian thought it was Louise, so he cald without looking back, âCome in.â
Ava pushed the door open and slipped inside, gently shutting it behind her. When Ava approached the balcony entrance, Brian remained standing, savoring his cigarette. He gazed into the darkness, not bothering to turn around.
Thinking of what Grace said to her today, Ava imitated Louiseâs voice and greeted, âHi, Brian.â
Brian was shocked when he heard that voice and slowly turned around. When he saw Ava before him, he frowned and asked, âWhat are you doing here?â
Ava lowered her head and asked shyly, âI heard you will set off for a business trip tomorrow. Can I go with you?â
