Chapter 48
Falling for My Contractual Wife
Brian stared at the screen for a while before making a call.
âMelvin, why did you call at noon?â
The person on the other end paused for a few seconds before saying, âItâs nothing. I just wanted to ask if youâve arrived.â
Brian frowned. âDidnât I tell you that Iâm going overseas?â
âMr. Brian, Iâve become forgetful. I forgot that youâd be flying for seven to eight hours.â
Brian didnât say anything and hung up.
After hanging up the phone, Melvin looked at Louise, who was staring at him not far away. He lowered his head respectfully and said, âMiss Adkins, arenât you having your meal?â
Louise smiled. âI saw you rushing out to answer the phone. I thought something urgent had happened at home. It turned out that Brian called you.â
Melvinâs expression was calm as he lowered his head slightly. âYes, Mr. Brian called to ask about the situation at home.â
Louise nodded, but her gaze was as cold as ice. If she had not rushed out in time, this wretched old man would have told Brian about Graceâs heatstroke!
Back at the dining table, Louise also received a call from Brian.
Louise said coquettishly into the phone, âDonât worry. Iâm eating well⦠Yes, itâs just that I miss youâ¦
Okay, Iâll be careful not to get a heatstroke⦠Yes, rest early. Goodbye.â
Grace stood in the corner and listened to everything Louise said over the phone.
Presumably, after Brian left, he was still worried about whether Louise had been eatinell and was fine in the hot weather.
Grace thought, âHow considerate!â She looked at her injuries and thought again, âBrian has never cared!
When she thought of that, her entire body turned cold. Now, she only wanted to be free from this misery as soon as possible.
At night, Grace tossed and turned in bed, unable to fall asleep. Her mind involuntarily replayed the scene of Brian and Louise together.
She burst into tears again, and she bit the blanket desperately to stop herself from making any sound.
She knew it wasnât good for the baby. She tried to think of things that would make her happy, but she didnât seem to have any of them.
Grace lay on the bed and cried until she was tired before falling asleep.
When she woke up the next day, her eyes were swollen, and the bags under her eyes were dark. She looked terrible.
100% 13:15 When Louise saw the state Grace was in, she sneered inwardly. She thought, âIt seemed that she had cried last night. Is she unable to take it anymore when only a day has passed? The exciting part has yet to come!â
âMiss Adkins, Iâm going to change my dressing today. Iâll come back after Iâm done.â
Louise looked at Grace and smiled coldly. âDidnât Dr. Vance send you a lot of medicine yesterday? Itâs such a hot day. Itâs just a change of dressing. Thereâs no need to make a special trip!â
Louise snorted and thought, âDonât even think about leaving!
Grace gritted her teeth. She merely wanted to find a place to rest while she was not changing her dressing because she had not slept well the night before. It seemed that her plan fell through.
âWhereâs the medicine? Iâll help you get it,â Louise said as she went to get the first aid kit.
Grace hurriedly ran over. âNo need, Miss Adkins. I can do it myself.â
Grace snatched the gauze from Louiseâs hand. Louise looked up at the wound on Graceâs forehead, and a ruthless look flashed across her eyes.
She suddenly raised her hand and said, âIâll help you change the dressing.â
The next second, a swishing sound was heard.
Grace screamed as she felt a sharp tearing sensation on her forehead.
