Chapter 380
His Promise: The Mafia’s Babies by C. Tamika
Chapter 380 Aria Wandering off, I skipped inside the warehouse, trying not to grab anyoneâs attention. Everyone was occupied with work, I was near invisible, and they didnât even notice me.
Maybe Christian should rethink his security.
The first thought that occurred to me was to steal something from his office, so I walked to the halls, which were also unprotected. Either Christian didnât keep valuable stuff around, or he trusted his men enough to believe they wouldnât do anything they werenât supposed to.
Would he have CCTV around?
No, I strongly doubted that. He looked like one of those typical pricks that knew how to persuade his wife to have wild sex in his office.
Rumor had it. Thatâs how his daughter Siena was created.
Standing in front of his office, I knocked on the door. âHello?â I called out, but there was no answer.
In a hurry, I opened the door, which was not even locked, and made a run for his coat. If he had come straight from home, there had to be something inside his pocket.
âThis guy is just a brainless idiot,â I whispered, laughing at his trust in his people. I mean, come on- leaving the door unlocked?
I stuck my hands inside his pockets and pulled out two different items. Two pieces of jewelry.
One was a ring, engraved with his wifeâs name, and the other piece was a necklace, engraved with the initials LL My plan wasnât for him to go crazy and kill all of us, so I settled for the necklace. The other item was undeniably his wedding ring, and I didnât want to mess with that.
The necklace did not look important, but since it was stored away with his ring-important enough for him to cause a fuss.
In case of any trouble, I left the office, and I was desperate to remain unseen.
I felt terrible for the J brothers, but I had to frame someone, and unfortunately, they fit the profile to become my victim.
Young, inexperienced, new on the job...perfect.
I stopped in my steps as I heard several male voices in the hall and hid behind the corner. Squinting my I looked at the faces and recognized two.
eyes.
It was Christian and Beau with two other men.
âBe careful with that thing, boss.â One of the men spoke, pointing at the weapon in his hands.
âItâs loaded.â
Christian clicked his tongue. âIâm always careful.â
âYouâll put a bullet in someone with that thing.â The other guy spoke. âSame way you did, Fabio Garcia.â
My heart sank as Christian laughed at the cruel joke one of his men made. It was a sensitive subject, and after Vince had scolded me about it, I knew all too well that it wasnât something to poke fun at.
It looked like his friendâ didnât feel the same.
âWe shouldnât joke around like that. Itâs not fair towards Vince.â Beau opened his mouth.
âSpeaking of Vince. Has anyone seen him around? I think he should be here by now.â
âNo.â
âI heard heâs lazy. At one point, he was asleep for half a year.â One of the men joked around again, referring to Vinceâs coma.
Meanwhile, Christian just stood there, smiling.
Was this the way his friends had his back?
Were they really this disrespectful?
Holding myself back not to go up there and smacking him, I squeezed the necklace in my hand.
Just you wait, and weâll see who will be laughing.
âDonât talk about him like that.â For the second time in a row, Beau had put a stop to it. I didnât like him, not at all. He was a bad influence and not good for my Vince, but at least he knew how to stand up for him.
âOur bad.â The man apologized, rolling his eyes. âI forgot the two of you were married.â He said. âNow that weâre on the subject of marriage, what do you think about his wife? Do you think sheâll be here today -sheâs hot, isnât she?â
Stay calm, Aria.
I breathed through my nose and exhaled. How the hell did I get involved?
âW-wellâ Christian stuttered, scratching his neck. He turned to Beau for support and bumped his shoulder.
âDonât set him up,â Beau said. âYou know how my sister gets.â
The guy clapped his hand, widening his eyes. âDamn, I forgot!â He shouted. âDidnât she drag your ex assistant over the ground after you ch-â
A loud and forceful laugh came from Beauâs lips.
âIâm having a good day today. Letâs not bring back the past.â
What happened in the past?
âWhat do you think of her?â One of the men asked him.
I knew Beau wouldnât beat around the bush, but I didnât care. We didnât get along, and other than him standing up for Vince, I didnât have any good words for him either.
âHmm, letâs see.â He began. âShe doesnât seem to have any brains, only knows how to rely on daddy-but sure, sheâs pretty to look at.â
Thatâs nice of him. He even managed to throw in a small compliment.
âSo theyâre alike?â The guy commented. âSheâs the perfect match for Vince!â
The group of men, including Christian, laughed at his dumb joke. I didnât know how he did it. Laugh at his friend who had gone through a difficult time behind his back, and laugh in his face, pretending to be some hero.
Beauâs face tensed. I could tell by his uncomfortable posture that he didnât appreciate the joke, which was hilarious, considering he was pretty high on the list of the most horrible people I ever met.
âI donât think we should talk about Vince while heâs not here to defend himself.â He had protected him yet another time.
Even though he had betrayed him to work for Christian, his friendship with Vince remained genuine.
âYouâre the same as your father, always so...good.â Christian punched his back. âI think what he meant to say is that both of them need someone to rely on. Aria has her daddy. Vince has us.â
How dared he?
So much for pretending to like me.
It wasnât even about me-it was about Vince. If this was the way Christian spoke about my husband in the open, I would love to know what more he had to say behind closed doors.
The two toddlers threw back their heads in laughter while Christian shook his head. âNo, no-it wasnât supposed to come out like that!â I didnât know who he planned on fooling. âYou know Iâd never mock him like that.â He explained himself to Beau.
I looked down at my balled fist.
He could explain himself all he wanted.
He could do that, and after I would be done with him-Vince could explain to him how we wouldnât do any business with the Lambertis anymore.
