Chapter 381
His Promise: The Mafia’s Babies by C. Tamika
Chapter 381 Vincenzo Fabio High School Diary 2-
This week has been a disaster.
On my way home from school, I got stalked by the transfer student. Iâll call her Snooper.
To make matters worse, it turns out sheâs my neighbor, and no matter how hard I try, I just canât run away from her.
I thought she was just joking around about marrying me, but her parents are one of the most influential people in town, and if thereâs something dad loves even more than his Mustang, itâs money.
Please keep me in your prayers!!!
Iâll need them!!!
âWell, dad,â I mumbled, closing the book. âTurns out our life isnât that different after all.â
The Snooper figure in his diary reminded me an awful lot of my wife.
I would love to have read further, but the loud cries from downstairs stopped me from doing so.
Only one person had a baby, and that was none other than Livia. The confusing woman who would one day decide to be friendly, and the other, treat me with a cold shoulder.
Having nothing better to do, I went downstairs to tease the woman for a bit.
With a worried expression, she tried to shush Dace while an uncomfortable Luis stood beside her with his book in his hands.
âIâm sorry, he isnât usually like this.â She struggled with the bottle in her hands.
I stopped in my steps, wondering whether it would be okay to tease a mother who was clearly having a hard time.
Fuck it.
It was just, Livia.
âHey, hey!â I ran down the stairs, shaking my head disapprovingly. âWhy is this random baby disturbing my peace?â
Luis chuckled, begging me to stop teasing her with his pitiful look.
âVince, I am so sorry!â LÃvia apologized, rocking her baby. âI know I promised he wouldnât be a problem, and usually he isnât, but-â
âItâs a joke.â I wouldâve loved to make her sweat for a bit longer, but for some reason, with her, I just couldnât do it. My heart wouldnât allow it.
I stretched my arms to offer help and grabbed the baby from her hands. âWe donât cry in this house.â My eyes moved to the cute little pout on his lips as he was seconds away from waking the city.
âOnly laughing is allowed.â
Strangely enough, those words helped as Dace went into fits of laughter. He reached his tiny hands and scratched my nose.
âThatâs impossible.â Livia gasped, as did Luis.
âItâs really not.â Knowing I had done something to impress her boosted my confidence. I had been trying to do that for a while now, and she was not an easy target. âEveryone likes me, isnât that right, Dace?â
The joyful laugh coming from Liviaâs mouth made my day. This strange feeling, I couldnât quite describe I guess she had been so judgmental. Her acceptance mattered to me.
âYou should go ahead and help Luis. Iâll watch him.â
âW-What?â She frowned, touching her babyâs cheek. âVince, you really donât have to do that.â
âItâs not a problem, really,â I reassured her. âDace and I, we understand each other.â
âI left his diaper bag in the hall. Hereâs his bottle!â She pushed the item into my hand, not arguing any further.
It was either that or let Luis miss a day of tutoring, and I could not let that happen.
âLord, Iâm so embarrassed right now.â The woman facepalmed, hiding her flushed cheeks.
âDonât be.â I shrugged. âRaising a child isnât easy. Iâve practically raised Luis.â
Luis nodded, backing me up. âHe did.â He said. âHeâll make a good dad one day.â I feared I mightâve given him the wrong impression about my intentions.
I wasnât trying to hit on a woman with a 7-month baby. Impossible.
âHmm, maybe.â Livia grinned, looking me up and down. She grabbed the books from Luisâ hands and placed her hand on his head. âLuis, letâs go.â
âYes, maâam.â
Holding Dace in my hands, I looked as the two of them walked off. I had expected him to cry for his mother, but luckily that didnât happen.
âSo.â I faced little Dace. âWhat are you and I going to do?â
Watching Dace was easier than expected. All the maids melted at his cuteness, and he seemed to enjoy every bit of attention.
Admiring his adorable face, I could certainly tell he had many of his motherâs charms. Livia loved to pretend she wasnât fond of me, but I wasnât stupid and would always notice the slight smile on her beautiful face.
âNo, no-thatâs not it.â I whispered, shaking my head.
She was Luisâ teacher and a mom.
Besides, I already had-
âVincey, Vince!â
A wife.
Sparing her an eye roll, I watched as Aria entered the living room with a bunch of shopping bags in her hand.
She loved to spend money, and I wasnât going to be a hater and lie to myself. She looked good doing it.
Whenever she did, she had this glow that made her much more bearable.
Ever since we spent more time together, after she had forced herself to tag along-I realized she had a different side to her.
Our personalities were so different, but that only interested me even more. It was fascinating to see how her brain worked and how she always managed to turn everything into the Aria show.
It was cute even.
She gasped, dropping her bags to the floor as she slammed her hands over her mouth. âOh my god-itâs the baby!â She pointed out, smiling ear to ear. âDace, isnât it?â
âYes.â
Aria ran over to touch the boyâs hand, making him giggle. âHi, handsome cutie!â Her voice made me want to puke, but at the same time, it was wholesome.
Her eyes were sincere. She genuinely enjoyed being around him, and unlike the first time, it wasnât some crazy scheme to get on my good side.
âSo thereâs someone who does like you.â I couldnât help but chuckle at the two.
âWhat do you mean by that?â Aria pursed her lips, but I could see the pain in her eyes. âDonât you like me?â Maybe that comment was a bit uncalled for.
âWeâre getting along nowadays.â I indirectly answered the question. I was starting to like her, but just as a human being, not even as a friend. It wouldnât be wise to give her the wrong idea.
âNot that itâs any of my business, but why are you watching him?â
âLivia was having a hard time.â
âThat poor thingâ Aria showed her compassion.
âShe has to teach Luis, take care of a baby, and hold herself back from jumping on top of my extremely hot and married husband. It was impressive how she could go from serious to jealous in seconds.
âI know.â I accepted the compliment either way.
âCanât she just send him to daycare?â
âI donât think daycare is for everyone.â I hoped that suggestion didnât come from jealousy. âPersonally, I wouldnât want to send my child before they could speak and express themselves.â
âI understand.â Aria shrugged. âWe all have different opinions.â
âOh, so youâre listening to opinions now?â
Aria released a breath, ignoring my attempts to call her out, and patted Daceâs head. âWho could ever be evil enough to hurt someone this precious?â I almost couldnât believe it when tears threatened to spill from her eyes.
It was either that, or she mustâve had an eye infection.
She was heartless and extremely tough to get through so it couldnât be.
Aria would only cry when something wouldnât go her way.
In any case, please hold back your tears.
Comforting others had never been my strong suit. That one time in the car when she cried after I scolded her as if I were her dad, I did not know what to do.
I did not want a repeat of that.
âAre you okay?â I asked.
âIâm fine. Heâs just so cute, and I really love children.â Ariaâs voice trembled. âI know, itâs stupid. You donât have to tell me.â
Who wouldâve thought a child could get her that emotional?
âI wonât.â
âLivia must really trust you.â She placed her hand on my arm. âLeaving a baby in someone elseâs care is not something easy.â
âI know.â
Luis was a teenager, yet I felt uncomfortable whenever he was around other people as I didnât have complete control over him.
Livia trusted me with her world, it felt nice, and I would do anything to maintain that trust.
âDo you want children in the future?â
Shit âW-With you?â
âIâm just asking, relax!â Aria waved her hands.
I already got my answer to that question. Children were a big no, and I was against them. It was clear Fabio had traumatized me, and until I could get over that trauma, I would never be ready to be a parent.
When I was younger, mom and dad treated me with all the love one could wish for-but after mom passed away, something shifted.
Fabio turned evil, and even if I promised myself not to become like him-one could never know what the future holds.
âI donât think Iâd make a good parent.â I decided to give her the short version.
âI donât agree,â Aria told me, tightening her grip around my arm. âI think youâre underestimating yourself.â She grinned...
âMaybe I am.â
My phone went off, and I received a text.
Beau:
You need to come here right now!
He send the location of one of the Garcia-Moralesâ warehouses.
Vince:
Whatâs wrong?
Beau:
One of your guys stole Sienaâs necklace and Chris is losing it.
He has them kneeling on the floor like dogs.
Beau send a picture, making me turn around instantly.
The text scared me, but so did Christianâs temper, and Ariaâs big mouth, so I didnât know how to take the information.
What did he mean someone stole a necklace?
âWhatâs wrong?â Aria scooted closer.
âNothingâ She didnât give me the chance to answer her question, as she had already pulled my phone from my hand.
Her eyes grew dark, and I knew it was game over. âWatching the baby was nice, but Iâm afraid itâs time for us to go.â She spoke.
âI donât know what the hell your friend is talking about, but I will not let a Lamberti correct my people.â
