Chapter 387
His Promise: The Mafia’s Babies by C. Tamika
Chapter 387 Aria âAnd this is why Iâve decided we need someone for the tech, someone to drive the truck, someone to go. over the numbers, and three people-obviously you and me, to go to the auction,â I shared my conclusion. I turned to Vince, who was watching me attentively, taking in every word.
No words left his mouth.
âWhat do you think?â I asked, awaiting his answer.
âI think your brains must be hurting from planning it all out,â Vince joked..
I chuckled nervously. Planning did have a way of making my head spin, but I enjoyed doing it. Better yet, I already had my whole life planned out, including this very moment.
âI think itâs a good idea,â Vince admitted. âI just donât know where we can find more people from the outside who arenât afraid to work against the Lambertis. He furrowed his brows, deep in thought.
I thought about the first person qualified for the job to drive the truck. Angelo.
He was trustworthy, on my side, and as a Marino, knew his way around the business.
Vince didnât really like him, especially not after the whole necklace situation-but there was no better option than him.
âWhat is it?â Vince blinked, noticing my lack of words.
âI know youâre not a fan of him,â I began as Vince was already shaking his head in disapproval.
âI already let him stay in my house because youâre my wife and your family requested it, but thatâs as far as Iâll go.â His tone was firm.
âBut he would be the best option to drive the truck with the weapons. He knows all the roads, knows all the routes to stay away from the Lambertis, and I trust him,â I quickly countered, not giving him any chance to interrupt me. âHe works for me.â
Vinceâs face disappeared behind his hands, and a deep breath left his lips. âFor some reason, I think Iâll regret this,â he said, looking at me through his fingers.
âI promise you wonât,â I assured him, treating him with a bright smile. âI got it all under control. Trust me.â
âOkay,â Vince simply nodded. âIf you say so.â
âOkay.â
âI know someone good with numbers,â Vince mentioned. âHeâs trustworthy, wonât betray me, and has every reason not to fear the Lambertis,â
âThatâs great. Weâll take him,â I said eagerly, showing him I trusted him more than he could ever trust me. âThat doesnât mean heâll do it. He lives in Miami, so Iâll have to convince him first,â Vince spoke. âChristian is his godbrother, his father is a cartel boss-he doesnât really have anything to do with his family, but he knows his way around.â
âThatâs good!â My eyes widened at the idea of turning one of Christianâs own people against him. âWhatâs his name?â
âTiago Castillo.â
âPerfect,â I immediately wrote down the name. âYou should invite him to stay over soon so we can convince him!â
âThat leaves us with two more people,â Vince spoke. âI have very good reason to believe that Isobel wonât say no to joining us for the auction,â he spoke. âSheâs really good at selling stories. She sold Beau the story that sheâs completely not insane and even got him to marry her.â
I laughed at his joke, but just as quickly I was taken aback, realizing where he was getting at. He wanted to recruit not only the daughter of the Lambertiâs business partner but also the mother of two children carrying the Alfonzo name.
âI know itâs crazy coming from my mouth but playing around with someone affiliated three families might be a bit too risky,â I said.
âBesides, it might not be that smart to involve ourselves in whatever grudge sheâs holding against Beau-â
âI donât care,â Vince responded coldly. âWe agreed we would go after Christianâs people, so thatâs what weâre doing.â
It wasnât that I cared that much because I could not give a damn about any of these people at all. I was startled by his lack of concern over Beau, and it left me a bit worried. I just didnât want Vince to end up regretting his decision.
Yet, I ignored my feelings and wrote down Isobelâs name. âWe need one more person for the tech, then weâre settled.â
Vince shot me a warm smile, something that didnât happen that often. If only I could read his thoughts. I returned his smile.
I knew there was a chance he might divorce me in the future when he would not require my help much longer, but I didnât mind. I was doing this out of love for him.
âRest for today, Aria, Vince said suddenly.
Rest?
âI canât. Thereâs still so much I have to do-and I still have to do more work, look over everything. I have to visit our warehouses later, I need to-â
âRest,â Vince insisted, getting up from his chair. âYou need to rest.â
âBut I canât...â My words trailed off. My body froze as Vince stepped closer to me. His presence nearly paralyzed me as he took my hand, his fingers brushing against mine gently.
âAria, please. Take a break for today.â His voice was soft and pleading.
His dark eyes, full of concern, stared into mine.
âWhy are you doing all of this?â He repeated the same question he had already asked me once before.
I was shameless, my answer was already set.
âI am doing this because I love you. You know I love you,â I replied, my voice barely above a whisper. It was a useless confession, he clearly didnât feel the same way-but I was okay with that for now.
As long as he knew how I felt about him.
âI canât be at ease knowing you feel obligated to take care of me,â Vince answered. âIâm sorry for not being able to give you anything...in return.â he apologized, and I knew he was referring to the love.
âThatâs okay, and youâve been a great husband so far,â I squeezed his hand, not wanting to let go. His words of doubt brought back a memory of that time I had called him a terrible husband. I never meant it like that, but since then he had been a little nicer to me.
âI need you to pack your suitcase.â Vince suddenly instructed.
âWhy?â I asked, confused. âThere is so much we still have to take care of. We donât even have a strategy yet.â
âPack your suitcase. You need a break. Iâm taking you on a belated honeymoon trip, Vince decided, his tone making clear that it wasnât up for debate.
Spending time alone with Vince?
A honeymoon on top of that?
âIn that case, Iâll start packing right away!â I couldnât hide my excitement. âDo you need me to pack a bikini because I just got a few limited editions!â
Vince smirked. âWhat about work?â He teased. âI thought you said you were busy.â
âBusy?â I played oblivious, scratching my head. âDid I say that?â
