UNEDITED

I am getting out of breath.

My breathing is growing hoarse as I round another sharp corner, leading into an even darker corridor. I feel like the energy I had felt before is slowly seeping out of my veins and into the dark night.

The voices seem to have faded a little way down, as I consider the options before me, I could continue to run, or I could try and hide, wait them out and then sneak around until I've found my way out.

The last thing I can do is get caught, because once I am caught it will be the end, I won't be able to get away again.

As I pass a small alcove to my left I pause and look down the hallway behind me before ducking into the small space, in the wall.

This part of the hallway is not lit by a torch so most of the wall is cast in dark shadows, leaving me hidden in the darkness.

I slump back against the wall for a moment catching my breath, trying to slow my racing heart. It's pumping loudly in my ears, like the sound of a drum hitting against my skull.

Probably the remnants of that unleashed power that I felt only minutes before. It was like a rush of adrenaline that coursed through my entire being and took control. I liked it, I felt like I was truly myself.

I pause when I hear the shuffling of feet around the corner I had just come from.

"Round here! I have a faint smell leading in this direction," A gruff voice calls out from the darkness, other mumble something and then there are a lot more footsteps coming towards my little space.

I hold my breath as if that would be able to stop my scent from escaping out into the air.

As they near me, someone from farther away howls, the sound echoes down the vast hallway and all the footsteps pause only a few feet away from me.

"Shit..." one says.

"let's go... she can't stay hidden out for too long, there are only so many ways to get out... we'll find her eventually" Another one mumbles.

I hear more agree before they are all running in the direction of the howl.

I muffle my giggle with my hand and let out a little triumphant fist pump when I am officially alone. Out of all the odds pushed against me I got away, but I have to be quiet because Lukai knows I am gone and I don't expect him to let me get too far before he comes looking for me himself.

Then the silence creeps in and I begin to realize I am utterly alone. There is no one in this strange place who can help me. If only I had werewolf powers to be able to mind link the pack I could at least warn Jasper.

I shake my head and try to not think about the mate I've left behind. Thinking about my friends and family won't help me anymore then it will hurt me. I need to stay focused and that means to try and find a way out of this damned place.

I take a peek around the corner of where I am hiding, the hallway is dark, and I can just barely see a dim glow from a little further down, probably from the main hallway I had run down.

I gather up all of my courage before I take the first step down the dark hall, with how silent it is I hear my soft footprints echo around me and I feel self-conscious about the fact that someone with hyper-sensitive hearing may be able to scout me out.

As I creep, further along, I get closer and closer to the light at the end of the hallway, I don't hear anyone in the area, so I speed up while keeping my steps light.

The sound of my strong heartbeat is thumping in my head and I focus on the steady beats, closing my eyes every few seconds to concentrate on the sounds around me.

As I round the corner I see a door near the end of the hallway, it is metal and has some sort of chain holding it shut. My heartbeat gets faster as I near the door. I walk up and place both hands on the cold metal and try and push it slightly, it moves only a little, the chain tied around the handle seems to be restricting it from moving.

I take a deep breath looking behind my shoulder into the darkness that lays beyond the one small torch that's lit, illuminating only the area I am standing in. I wrap my hands around the chain, planning on pulling it until I can at least open the door a slight bit, I only need to be able to open the door an inch to be able to slip out.

But before I can begin to pull, the air around me shifts as my hair whips into my face, one hand comes around to cover my mouth, another arm to hold my arms tight against my body.

My heart freezes, whoever is standing behind me came so quickly I didn't even realize they were there before it was too late.

"Stupid girl... I can't believe you've managed to get away this far without my help," She whispers into my ear, her voice is high, I can tell that she's smiling.

I recognize her voice.  My heartbeat speeds up as my hopes rise, I may be able to get out of here alive. My mouth drops open as I try and spin in her arms to get a better look.

"Morgan? How... why are you here?" I ask, my mouth is open so wide.

Morgan, the morgan from Dorian's coven. My mother's Coven...

She only smiles at me in the dark, showing all of her prestine white teeth as well as the fangs that protrude slightly glinting off of the torchlight.

My stomach drops because I can't tell if she is here to help or to bring me to Lukai.

Jasper's POV

We move quickly through the night, Emery and Avery are at my sides in their wolf forms as well as more wolves who decided to come along on this mission. We didn't have enough time to gather up a lot of people and in the end, we thought it would be better to only bring a few groups.

The chances of Lukai having scouts along the perimeter of his pack are high so we risked it by having 5 groups of three going off in different directions in order to find the best vantage point.

We got lucky when Dorian brought us the news that he had an in with Lukai's pack of rogues.

The most unlikely of allies was Morgan from Dorian's coven who had an old friend who is close to Lukai, Angelique I think her name was. Morgan was told by Angelique that they had Rose.

And through bribing Morgan with the stuff she loves the most, money, sex, and blood we got her to agree to go and see what information she could gather from Lukai. I don't count her as a trusted ally yet, she still has ulterior motives that cannot be trusted. So we sent her, but not alone. Lizette, Rose's work colleague who was turned into a vampire not too long ago by Mordecai also agreed to go along with Morgan to try and get Rose back.

We know it won't be a simple task, I have no doubt that Lukai has had this revenge planned out for a long time, so we aren't going in expecting this to be easy. On the contrary, Lukai will be waiting for us, he's my brother I know his tricks and how dramatic he can be so we're expecting a fight we just hope that we can get Rose out in time before a major fight ensues.

With Morgan and Liz already inside, there is more of a chance to intercept Lukai's communications with his wolves who are tracking the outer perimeter.

We plan to have either Morgan or Liz distracting Lukai while we get our work done on the outside. from the information my pack has gathered, Lukai still has no clue we know he was the one who took Rose. He is most likely laughing about how stupid he believes us to be.

As always he thinks of himself as the better wolf, the better alpha, and the better brother. Trying to up me in everything.

Little does he know we are one step ahead of him and as always I will come out on top. There isn't anything I wouldn't do to get Rose back.

"We're getting near, can you sense anything?" Avery says through the mind link, "These are the coordinates that Morgan sent us."

I snap back into focus as I take in our surroundings, all I see are the dense woods surrounding us, however, that's not what I focus on.

I close my eyes and let my wolf senses expand, throughout the forest, grasping for a feeling, the feeling of sunlight shining on my face and the scent of lilacs and vanilla. I keep reaching knowing she must be close, waiting to feel the tingle of warmth spread through me, the sensation I feel whenever Rose walks into a room or smiles at me.

Thinking back on our short time together, I can't comprehend how she was able to fall in love with me, I can't say I had been an easy man to love, with my constant nudity in the beginning as well as my wolfish barbaric ways of getting her to give me attention. But still out of everything, this light, this gift that was given to me by the gods was able to find it in herself to let me into her warmth and there is not a chance in hell that I would ever let her go.

So when my senses are reaching as far as they can go as I feel my wolf losing hold of the bond, trying to push further, that's when I feel it, when I feel her. A slight nudge, a little twinkle of that warmth I had grown so accustomed too breaks through, shining towards me and my wolf. Her light tingles down into my heart and when I open my eyes and look to my beta, my friends, they can see it in my eyes.

We are so close.
