Chapter Twenty: This is War

Adam and I are sitting with Jack, waiting for him to wake up. He's completely healed thanks to his werewolf healing.

"When will he wake up?" Adam asks me and I check the time.

"The meds should be out of his system, it's now a waiting game," I reply. A couple minutes later I notice that Jack is starting to fight the tube."He's fighting the tube, can you help me?" I ask Adam, he nods and I run over to Jack. His eyes are slightly open and he's definitely confused.

"Jack it's Megan, I'm going to get this tube out okay," I tell himHe looks at me with fear in his eyes and he's getting more frantic.

"Jack it's Adam, look at me bud," He says taking Jack's hand. His eyes shift over to Adam.

"Megan has to get the tube out, she'll be gentle but you have to relax," He explains calmly

Jack looks up at me and I give him a reassuring smile. He then gives me a slight nod.

"This will be uncomfortable at first but I'll be quick," I say as I detach the tube from the ventilator. I prepare to remove the tube."On 3 I want you to exhale okay," I tell Jack. "1,2,3"

He exhales as I remove the tube. Jack starts to breathe on his own and from what the monitors tell me he's going to be fine."How are you feeling?" I ask.

"Like a got hit by a truck," He says bluntly, I try and hold back a laugh.

"You'll probably feel like that for awhile," I say.

"Where are we?" He asks,

"The clinic," I reply I check him over quickly and like I expected everything has healed.

"You're healed completely, we can go back to Adam's place," I tell him

"Is that where everyone is?" He asks, I nod.

When we get back to Adam's house we are bombarded with people. They mainly want to see if Jack is okay. We didn't know how long it would take him to heal so I made everyone go home after a few hours. Adam insisted on staying of course.  We all sit down at the large dining room table. Zach gets an old book from the book from a shelf. He opens the book and turns the pages until he gets to a blank one. The page holds an envelope and a quill.

"What is this?" I ask a little confused.

"This is the book of declarations, it's over 3000 years old, it's been passed down over the years through different vampire families," He explains

"What's it for?" My dad asks, Zach takes the envelope and the quill from the book.

"It's used to document all vampire wars, all supernatural who plan to participate sign the book with their blood, our enemies have one as well," He explains, It hits me then that we our no longer calling them bad vampires, we're calling them our enemies.

"Someone has to write the declaration of war in their blood and then seal it in the envelope so it can be sent with magic," Adam mentions.

"Who should write it?" Rose asks him, He turns to me.

"You are their enemy, if you write it then you show them that you aren't afraid," He tells me.

"But wouldn't that give away the fact that I'm not human anymore?" I ask

"No, anyone can write the declaration human or supernatural but only the supernatural get put in the book because most of the time humans don't fight," Zach explains.Adam is right, they see me as the enemy and they want me to fear them. If I write the declaration then I can show them that I'm not afraid.

"Get me a knife," I say and Mya leaves to go get me one.

"We have friends in the city, what if they go after them?" My mom asks

"They should be safe," Adam reassures

"What about Lauren, I was talking to her the day at the school, what if they were listening?" I ask

"Kate, call her family and tell them that if anyone comes to attack them call you," Adam tells her.

"What if she asks questions?" She asks

"Explain to the bare minimum," He replies. Mya comes back with a small knife and a small bowl.

"Here you go,"  She says

"Thank you,"Zach opens the envelope and hands me the paper inside along with the quill. I take the knife and feel a dull sting as I drag it across the skin of my hand. I allow my blood to fall into the bowl. "What do I write?" I ask as I dip the quill in my blood.

"Our official name is The Northern Alliance Of Vampire Covens, so say you are writing on our behalf,"

"Isn't she technically part of Adam's coven?" My dad asks confused

"She is part of my coven as my girlfriend but we are keeping up the act that she is still human so that's what she has to say," Adam explains to him.

"When and where are we doing this?" I ask Zach. He thinks for a moment before replying.

"How about the East Woods at the edge of town in 48 hours?" He asks and everyone nods. I press the quill to the paper and start writing.

Dear Enemies of the Northern Alliance Of Vampire Covens,

I'm writing on their behalf to say that this is a declaration of war. You are to meet us at the East Woods in 48 hours to make a choice, fight or surrender. You must know that we don't plan on backing down. Know that I'm not afraid of you and never will be. Know that when you hurt one of us you face all of us.

I finish writing and show what I've written to Adam. He tells me it's good and then I seal it away in the envelope. I hand it Mya.

"I will do the spell," She says then walking to another room.

"What do we do now?" Ryan asks

"We prepare for a fight," Zach says but I have something to add.

"This is War,"
