Chapter Twenty-Five: I Won

The darkness melts away and when I look around I'm in a green meadow. What is this place? I can't be dead? I realize that I'm laying down so I manage to get myself standing. I look around and don't see anyone so I decide to call out.

"Hello?" "Is anyone here?" I call

"My son was right, you are a magnificent young woman," A female voice says and I turn around. The woman is the spitting image of Adam. Is this his mother? I ask myself.

"Who are you?" I ask hesitantly

"My name is Anna Stone, I'm Adam and Rose's mother," She replies gently.

"Am I dead?" I ask. She chuckles light heartedly and motions for me to sit down.

"You're not dead sweetheart, the fight just took a lot out of you so your body put you into a deep sleep to recover," She explains to me.

"Why am I here?" I ask her

"This is a place between the world of the living and the world of the dead because you are immortal your body sent your soul here to protect it," She tells me "Now I would like to get to know the woman dating my son," She says and I smile.

"Well I'm sixteen but I guess age is just a number now isn't it," I say and she laughs. "I want to be a doctor like my parents maybe specialize in paediatrics and supernatural beings," I explain

"From what I've seen you would be good with children," I smile at her complement.

"What made you fall for my son?" She asks me

"He's compassionate but also cunning, he's respectful and always lets me say no to whatever he asks"

"I knew I raised him to be a gentleman,"

"He's my first boyfriend and my first kiss," I confess

"I saw that kiss and I approve," She tells me. Wait if she's here that means she's ether dead or alive. She keeps saying that she's seen everything but I haven't seen her.

"You're not alive anymore are you?" I ask her sadly and she shakes her head.

"No, I died two years after Adam and Rose became vampires,"

"Adam told me the story,"

"They offered to change me when I became sick but I refused, I knew it was my time and I wanted to see my husband,"

"What happened to their father?" I ask hoping that I'm not pushing too much.

"He died in war," She explains

"Was Adam supposed to go?" I ask

"He was but then he got sick and I found someone to change him so he was considered legally dead by that point,"

"They don't talk about their family very much," I say and she nods

"Our deaths really hurt them mine especially, I think it's because they know that the likelihood of them seeing me again is very slim,"

"Do you have anything you would like me to tell them?" I ask

"Tell them that I'm happy and that I'm in heaven with their dad," I nod and start to realize that I'm getting blank spots in my vision again.

"Am I waking up?" I ask starting to get dizzy.

"Yes, come here," She says gently pulling me towards her lap. I feel her help me lay down.

"You'll be okay," She says quietly laying a gentle hand on my forehead. My vision is getting blurry. My eyes are getting heavier and heavier. Suddenly she starts singing calmly.

"Close your eyes, it's time to rest,

Listen to my lullaby as you lay against my chest,

Close your eyes, it's time to say goodnight,

Don't you worry about a thing, everything will be alright,

Close your eyes, it's time to sleep,

It's okay to drift away into the deep,"

My vision goes dark as I drift away to the sound of a lullaby.

My eyes open and I feel that I'm in a bed. I look to my left and see Adam asleep in the chair next to me. I squeeze his hand gently which wakes him.

"Morning sleeping beauty," He says gently

"How long was I out?" I ask, my voice scratchy.

"Around three hours," He answers

"Where are we?" I ask

"At my place," He answers

"How's Melanie?"

"She woke up about an hour ago Mya and your mom are getting her settled,"

"They killed her whole family," I say sadly

"I know, I think Mya is going to take her in, she needs to be around witches,"

"I'm hungry," I tell him when I start to get the feeling that I get when I'm hungry for blood.

"Well then let's get you a blood bag," He helps me up and wraps an arm around my waist.

"Look who's awake," Adam says to everyone when we get to the living room.

"Thank goodness," My dad says wrapping me in a hug. When he pulls back he smiles at me.

"I heard you were a badass," He says and I laugh. Dad helps me to the couch while Adam goes to get a blood bag from the fridge.

"How are you feeling?" Zach asks me

"Tired," I admit

"I bet, you did awesome back there," He replies. Adam hands me a blood bag and I drink it eagerly.

"Are you okay?" He asks

"Physically I'm okay, Mentally and Emotionally I don't know yet," I tell him honestly.

"I'm sorry we couldn't help you," He says sadly

"It's not your fault, Melanie was hypnotized she had no control over it," I assure him.

"Where's Lauren?" I ask

"Right here," I voice says and I turn to see Lauren coming down the hallway. She comes over and gives me a hug. "I thought I lost you," She whispers in my ear.

"I'm not that easy to kill," I whisper back and she laughs.

"Your mom is doing a checkup on Melanie," She tells me.

"If she needs help I'll go but right now I'm just going to rest," I say and she nods

"You take all the time you need," Zach says "Tonight we're having a bonfire if you want to come,"

"I don't care how tired I am, I'm not missing my first bonfire," I say and he laughs

"We have our Megan back," Lauren says

"You won Megan," Adam tells me giving my hand a squeeze.

He's right, I won and now I'm free.
