Chapter Six: The Attack

Adam left around noon, he helped me clean the rooms after each patient. He met my dad and he thinks Adam is human. I don't know when I'll tell him or even if I will. I also tell mom about Adam asking me on a date, She's happy for me.

"I like him, he's a gentleman," She tells me and I laugh.

"This feels like the movies, a vampire falls in love with a human," I explain

"You'll be fine, I know you can handle yourself,"

"I just haven't been on a date before," I say nervously.

"You could talk to Lauren," Mom suggests

Lauren has been on tons of dates she could probably help.

"What do I tell her?" I ask

"Tell her everything except the vampire part,"

"Thanks mom," I change out of my scrubs when mom says I can leave. "See you later mom," I say and she waves goodbye. I walk out to my truck, put my bag in the backseat and then I start to drive. I see a café so I decide to park and go in. I get in line and decide that I'm going to get a cream cheese bagel and a banana smoothie.

"Name?" The clerk asks after I place my order.

"Megan," I say with a smile, I then wait for about a minute and they come back with my order. "Thank you," I say as I place some money on the counter. I sit down at a table and enjoy my food. I've never taken in the nature around here before, it's beautiful we're surrounded by dense woods. Perfect for werewolves and vampires. I think to myself with a laugh. I finish my bagel and smoothie, throw away the cup and head back outside. I start to get this feeling that someone's watching me. I start to pick up the pace to get to my truck. Someone grabs me behind so I do the one thing I could do, scream. I scream at the top of my lungs and kick to try and get away. They put a hand over my mouth.

"Easy I don't want to hurt you, I just need a bite to eat," He whispers in my ear. I feel him drag me into the woods, he pins me against a tree. He's a vampire and he wants to eat me.

"Don't do this," I beg, this time I'm afraid the vampire at school was afraid to eat me. This guy isn't,

"I need to, but don't worry it won't hurt you'll just feel two pin pricks and then you'll be numb," He says but I know he doesn't care about me. I have to calm down but I can't.

"Don't be afraid, just relax," He says looking me in the eyes, his voice becoming smooth like Adam's. It's not working thanks to my necklace.

"Huh, looks like you have rosemary somewhere I guess that means you'll have to be drained," He says sickly He comes closer pinning my hands. "Take a deep breath," He whispers

Suddenly there's a sharp pain in my neck and then it starts to feel like their pins and needles. I scream that's all I could think to do. I feel my blood being drained as this feeling of peace comes over me. I don't have the energy to keep screaming, everything is numb.

"Megan!" I hear a voice yell as I feel myself collapse to the ground.I hear some fighting and I see blood under my hooded eye lids. I feel my body being lifted into someone's arms but all I can muster is a whimper. "It's okay Megan, you're safe now," I hear a voice say, I recognize it.

"Adam?" I manage

"Yeah it's me, you're okay he's dead,"

"He was too strong," I say

"I know but you were so brave," He tells me

This intense drowsiness comes over me along with fear.

"I'm afraid and tired," I say, my mouth heavy.

"It's just the sedative sweetheart, there's no need to be afraid I'm going to bring you to my house and we're going to call your mom," He tells me gently.

"I don't wanna die," I say he squeezes my hand.

"Sweetheart you're not going to die, he didn't take as much as he said he would,"

"Okay, can I sleep?" I ask

"Yes Meg, I'll be here when you wake,"

I feel myself nod and then darkness comes over me as I feel light pressure on my forehead.

My eyes flutter open and I feel that I'm in someone's arms.

"Morning sleeping beauty," I hear Adam say as my eyes focus.

"Did I die?" I ask

"No love, your mom is giving you fluids and I gave you some of my blood to help with the blood loss," I look down at my left arm and see that I have an IV.

"Who attacked me?" I ask

"He was new to the vampire thing, he made friends with the Northern Opposition Alliance," Adam explains

"I thought you said the sedative was mild,"

"Your body is more sensitive, or at least that's what your mom thinks," He says Mom then comes in and checks me over.

"Thank you for taking care of my daughter Adam," my mother says sincerely

"It's my pleasure Kate, she's a wonderful young woman,"

"The blood helped Meg, but I still want you resting," Mom says and I groan

"Hey, we can stay here, the sedative should be out of your system by tomorrow," Adam tells me

"Fine," I agree "But you still owe me a date,"

"Absolutely, until then you're resting,"

"Did it hurt Megan?" Mom asks

"No mom after a sharp pain everything just went numb," She smiles and gives me a kiss on the forehead. She leaves the room and Adam lays down with me on his chest.

"It's alright, time to sleep," He says gently

"You'll stay?" I ask

"Yes love, I'll stay but you need to sleep," He says stroking my forehead. He starts talking quietly about random things and eventually I drift off into peaceful sleep but not before hearing Adam say "Sweet Dreams"
