Faithful meeting Ch 1
What makes a Master Merchant
And there he was, lying on the cold ground. He heard that the free city of Norning was the place of faithful encounters, but so far it was quite disappointing. The slums where dirty and run down, the river that cut through the city made it painfully obvious that the difference between poor and rich was bigger than a mountain. Social status is only defined by the money that you had in your pocket. He came here as a wanderer after he was let go of his previous duties. He was no naive man, but the poverty of the working class people where astonishing. With his head of his looking like a ram he couldn't stand a chance to find a normal job. But did he really want normal job, or did he want to try something exciting after so many years? He didn't know himself. As he was contemplating his new life a carriage came by him and splashed him with mud and dirty water.
âFuck!â He tried to clench the water out of his clothes, when a silhouette appeared front of him.
âGood evening, Sir! Looking for a job?â
The silhouette became clearer and a woman with wine red hair and an intricate mask that wasnât covering her mouth took shape under the big black cloak. He couldn't imagine what kind of job would person who looked like this would give to him. His senses were screaming that something was fishy about her.
âDepends on the job.â
âWell, you donât exactly look like someone who could pick and choose, do you? Nameâs Dime. Yours?â She had so much confidence before the half ram buff man, like she already owned him.
âYou seem quite confident yourself, Iâm Kaga.â
âNice meet you Kaga. Now get up and follow me.â
âWhere to?â Kaga started to get stand up from the ground, his clothes where still dripping wet.
âWeâre going home of course. I like you so you will work for me. And the people who work for me are family so come quickly.â
Kaga followed Dime but could not stop thinking about where this naïve lady popped out of and decided to be his new family. As he followed her, he took a better look at the woman under the cloak. She seemed to be in her thirties, but it was hard to tell because the mask was covering most of her face.
Stolen from Royal Road, this story should be reported if encountered on Amazon.
-What an oddball.
After about half an hour they arrived at a big mansion that was a little run down but clean. It had two floors and a garden behind it. What kind of work would he be doing here? Renovate the mansion? The big double winged door opened with a creak. In the inside was a gray-haired old woman, in neatly arranged fur, feather and leather dress.
âThank Ostrara you finally came back! Running out the door like a possessed woman. Next time care to tell us when youâre going out?â
At first glance, the woman might be seen as a worrying grandma, but Kaga could see. The grandma was showing outmost respect to Dime in every movement. She opened the door, closed it, took her coat, put slippers on her and so on.
âWho is this ram? We just moved, but you already found a stray kitten in the rain.â
Behind the grandma, a stylish thirty something man appeared. He had shoulder length wavy black hair, tan skin and shining blue eyes. He wasnât as buff as Kaga but had decent muscles.
âLike you werenât one before coming here!â The grandma struck the back of the manâs head.
âWhat can I say, when I see a diamond in the rough, canât help but want it.â
Dimeâs smile turned ice cold for a moment and everyone shut up.
âHe is Kaga, he will be the new member of the family. Mira and Ramir are still working so I introduce you to them later. The one who looks like my granny is Mathilda, the fashionista whiner behind her is Tealla. This little friend with me is Lorendray, Ray for short.â
While talking a little white snake creeped out of her clothes. The snake sounded like it had a lot to say because it was hissing nonstop.
âRay he canât understand you yet so quit the cussing, my ears gonna rot. I canât accept you yet, but Lady Dime is thrusting you so we should try to get along.â Teallaâs attitude pissed Kaga of a little, but he could see that the man had no real malice in him.
âHeâs like this to everyone, but deep down heâs a sweety pie just shy. Nice to meet you Kaga. Lady Dime has a great eye for people so Iâm sure you will be of great help to us. As you heard Iâm Mathilda. If you have any injuries, come to me after taking a bath. I will also show you around the mansion. We just moved in so there are still a lot of things to do, but its better than the street.â Mathilda seemed like nice woman. Her trust in Dime was natural.
âWho you calling a shy boy you old hag?â
âBetter be doing your job peacock boy! Dinner wonât make itself.â She turned back to Kaga. âLetâs go horned friend.â
Tealla left the room puffing and fuming.
âLooks like there is some tension.â Kaga was looking at the leaving back.
âOh, donât misunderstand, he needs someone to keep him in check at home.â Her eyes became cold and the smile on her face disappeared. âBut I wonât keep put if others do it, so I advise you to proceed with caution.â
âThere was no such intention on my side, I sense no malice from him, just hurt.â
âGood eyes for people huh? Thatâs nice to hear. But come, I must really show you the bath. Cleaning up the hall should be enough for this old woman.â
The smile returned to her face but somehow Kaga felt that the woman was actually far from a tired grandma.
