Chapter 12

Try this on Ch 12

What makes a Master Merchant

Tealla knocked lightly on the door with one hand while holding breakfast in the other. He slowly opened the door. Inside he found Mira who fell asleep in her wheelchair, beside her on the bed was a sleepy white snake holding a cold tower and Dime who was struggling to catch her breath.

As he got closer Mira slowly opened her eyes. She looked exhausted must have been up all night.

”Did you manage to get some sleep?”

”What time is it?”

”9 am. Thought I’d let you sleep in.”

”About four hours then.”

She stretched her stubs and neck as she answered.

”Not much then. Did she… I mean how is she?

He looked at the pile of blood drenched towels beside the bed and the little sneak who was blinking longer each time.

”Ray was up all night with Dime, but Ray didn’t see her sleep. But she didn’t stop breathing for the night, so Ray is positive about her condition.”

Ray was talking slower and slower.

”Ray is…a little…sleepy…”

With that Ray fell asleep while holding onto a wet towel. Tealla took the towel and folded the little sneak in a loop.

”Ray is so cute. If you make me new arms the first thing I’m gonna do is petting that little head.”

Tealla could find a tiny smile on the Girls face.

”I will work hard to make it happen.”

”Thank you, truly. The breakfast looks delicious, but I think we have to wait with the soup. She puked after eating her dinner.”

Tealla grimaced as he listened to the calm girl. They all knew that Dime was mostly out of it, but could understand what they were saying.

”Dime can you sit up? Please try to eat something, you will need your energy tonight.”

”Haa…haaa…”

The noises coming out of her mouth were concerning, but he fed her anyways.

After he left the room with the now empty plates he felt a throbbing heart ache. How many more times has he witness this madness?

Down the staircase Kaga was standing with a difficult expression. As he seen Tealla with the plates he couldn’t help his curiosity.

”Is she..Okay?”

”Okay? No, she’s not. But she won’t die.”

Kaga noticed that further prying would just anger the mage, so he just took over the dishes and brought them to the kitchen to Wash them.

”Thanks. Now that the girls are taken care of, we should have a meal too, right? Is there anything you like to eat? Maybe ham & eggs?”

”Sounds great thank you.”

The sudden shift in Tealla’s tone caught him by surprise, but Kaga didn’t mind the change. Now that he had time to look at the mage he was a natural beauty. His sharp brown eyes with long lashes were mesmerizing. The curly dark hair that reached his shoulders flowed around like a waterfall. His tanned skin was dazzling with the toned muscles. He might have been mistaken for royalty if not cooking in a kitchen.

”What’s your story, ram boy? Who were you before becoming a drenched stray puppy in Norning?”

”Just the usual staff. Working hard as a youngster, climbing up, then with the change of power I had to be disposed of too. And yours?”

”Hmm… mine is also pretty ordinary. Just a prince running away from home because of political tributes.”

Kaga was stunned for a moment. Did he hear correctly?

”So you’re a Prince?”

”Was to be exact. I was disowned. Now I’m just Tealla your friendly neighborhood mage.”

Kaga let out a chuckle. He imagined that the man was of noble origins but to be a prince was quite a shocker.

”So Mr. disposed soldier, would you help me around today please? I have a lot of work to do.”

”It would be my pleasure.”

Tealla took Kaga to his room and got out a mountain of clothes.

”I had my notes but trying it on is the real deal. Okay now ram boy, you will have to put the ones I tell you on, but for now out of your clothes.”

Kaga took of his outfit while Tealla stared intently.

”Hmm…you have a great physic so I assume you can pull off anything but let’s be intentional about this.”

He took out a bright yellow outfit. As Kaga put it on he felt how good quality all the materials were.

”This must have been a fortune.”

”Oh, don’t be silly. You still don’t know who you are working for? She got it all free. But I think the yellow might be a bit too harsh. Like screaming ‘Look at me’ but not in a good way. Let’s try the purple.”

”You seem to have a lot of experience.”

”You could say that. Fashion is my hobby. After all perception is reality, or what the nobles say. You know, you must look your part. Hmm.. a bit better but still not perfect. Let me think.”

”Yeah I know a thing or two about nobles as well, but I never understood the parading part of it.”

”How amateur of me, of course! Try the green!”

Tealla was enjoying the dress up much more than Kaga.

”You still have a long way to go ram boy. That is why I could follow the Lady without question. She just understands. Your appearance is essential in a new environment. The folks there know nothing of you. You have to communicate to them via your dress and demeanor. Yes, I knew the green will be the winner. You will look so good next to the Lady’s red hair. I can’t wait to see it in one piece.”

Kaga was caught off guard by the mage’s explanation. He was never told these mind tricks with clothes only how to behave and speak. Now that he thinks about it he had prepared outfits for escorting the Lord.

”Okay, now that this is decided we should get to the next chore. Preparing two beds and a heck ton of medicine.”

Kaga raised his eyebrows. He still didn’t know anything about what the night was holding.
