Chapter 15

It won't change Ch 15

What makes a Master Merchant

Just two hours before the duo arrived the whole mansion was echoing with tense hurried steps. Both Mathilda and Dime laid in the garden still. Tealla ran to them with Kaga, who was at loss of world. The mage didn't hesitate much as he picked up the old woman, whose blood flooded like a quiet brook. Her silver-gray hair disheveled by the wind stuck to Tealla's velvety vest. Her wrinkled lips turned blue and dark circles appeared under her eyes.

"We have to hurry ram boy! Don't just stand around, grab the Lady!"

His voice was firm and confident, like he had done this a million times. Kaga was brought back to his senses by the voice. He took Dime in his arms and carried her to the previously prepared room. Dime's condition looked better than in the morning, her only out of picture aspect was the nonstop nosebleed. Ray was already waiting inside the room with little ice cubes beside him.

"Ray made Dime her medicine tea ice cubes. Kaga just has to put five to Dime's mouth and Dime will get better."

The little white sneak then took a glance at the old shaman, who looked much worse than the Lady.

"Poor Mathilda, but don't worry Tealla knows best. Tealla will help."

Ray was right. The mage skillfully stitched both arms and poured a few potions on them. When the liquid disappeared, the color returned to her cheeks.

"Now they both just need to rest."

"You seem awfully skilled in taking care of them."

"Well yes, you have also seen her right? Before it all stopped? She visits every full moon."

"Is she Ostrara?"

"Yes...and no. The old hag is the proxy of that beautiful disaster, so basically just send very life like massages. Could you imagine? A goddess coming personally?"

"Who is exactly the Lady to be conversing with a goddess trough a proxy?"

"I'm not sure myself, but actually, who cares? She does what needs to be done, and I respect her for that. For your friendly neighborhood mage that is more than enough reason to follow her. Or you think differently ram boy?"

"It is... a lot to take in..."

"You will get used to it, the endless surprise part I mean. When you thought you got to know her, boom, a whole new kind of crazy comes out. But it wouldn't been fun to reveal everything, you know. Just keep your eyes and ears open."

"I will..."

"Now if you'd excuse me, I have to take a long bath. Tattered bird is not in this season."

Tealla left Kaga alone with his unanswered questions. Ever since he came here, he was just completely in the fog the entire time. One moment he looked out the window to see what the two women were doing in the garden, and in the next time started to drift away from its normal pace. He saw Mathilda cut herself and then transforming into that otherworldly beauty with pink hair and green eyes. She even seemed younger than Dime.

-So, she was Ostrara.

He couldn't get a better look because in the next secund both the women collapsed to the ground. They seemed to have created a different time zone around them and everything else stopped. He could not wrap his head around magic. He never had any talent and he wasn't really interested only in his sword. But in the past year his ignorance seems to be commanding a great price from him.

"Lot on your mind?"

Mira stopped her wheelchair right before Kaga tripped over it. Her emerald eyes were tired and empty. She was one of the mysteries Kaga had yet to solve.

"Would you mind chatting a bit?"

The hybrid thought that maybe he could get closer to an answer for his questions from the girl.

"I don't. Come to my room, but before that bring some tea, please. I need something to keep me awake."

Kaga was already drinking tea with Mira in silence, when Ramir and Nalaka arrived. Mira just waved him to stay put, she will be back soon.

Kaga waited patiently while looking around. He couldn't get a good look before, but the place was neat and organized. On the wooden desk a few thick stacks of papers were neatly placed. Mira's special aid tools right next to them. It must have been Tealla's handywork. The items were specially designed for her. The walls were full of bookshelves that Mira couldn't have reached herself alone. The bed had no traces of the sickly Lady who had spent a whole day in it.

Kaga had theories how a young girl became this way, but he did not dare ask directly. It must have not been the happiest memory for the twins.

"We are finally back!"

The one shouting as coming in was the brother Ramir who held his sister in his arms.

"Have you gained some weight? You feel heavier."

"You must have lost your strength brother. Please take good care of your body."

Mira was not a girl who would let others bully her, even if it was her twin. But Ramir instead of reacting, directed his focus to Kaga.

"You know my sister is underage right Mister?"

Kaga spit the tea out that was in his mouth.

"Pathetic brother, you can bully Kaga because he's a newcomer, but you stay silent with your ears and tail tucked in when it comes to Nalaka."

"Oh, come on, I was just joking, don't be such a mood killer."

"I think you extended your stay in my room enough brother. Please leave my room."

"Okay, okay"

Ramir backed out of the room with his hands in the air, but his tongue sticking out. Mira just sighed and took a cup of tea to herself.

"I'm terribly sorry about my foolish brother, but I dare not say it won't happen again."

Kaga who just finished cleaning up after his spit out tea looked her with understanding eyes.

"It's not that bad. I also had a friend who was like him so I don't think we will be on bad terms."

"Where is your friend now."

"He died when we were young."

"Oh, I'm so sorry, I shouldn't have asked."

"It was a long time ago so it's not that bad anymore...Have you...also lost someone precious to you?"

"I'm sorry, I would rather not talk about it. However, I still haven't heard of what kind of room will you be getting let's talk about that."

Kaga felt that the line Mira drew between them was harsh and clear, but he couldn't blame her. Maybe another time.
