Chapter 21: With Haruka
Aizawa-san and I arrived at the hospital, I went to the examination room on the first floor, and Aizawa-san left for the second floor where she went to her grandmotherâs hospital room.
âI have an appointment for an examination, so Iâll stay here. Tell your grandmother to take care of herself.â (Hiroto)
âOh⦠yes, Iâll tell herâ¦â (Haruka)
Aizawa-sanâs voice became quieter, and she looked like she wanted to say something, but time was running out, so I headed for the examination room.
âUmâ¦Yoshizumi-sa-â
I couldnât hear Aizawa-sanâs voice as I was thinking about the results of the club meeting and about Yoichiro, who would be in touch with me tonight.
âToru-san, howâs my leg? Is it okay?â
âI know you havenât walked long distances in a while, but did you feel any pain on the way to school?â (Toru)
I had been in the hospital since I injured my leg and hadnât moved much, so it had been a long time since I had traveled long distances.
âNo. It didnât seem to hurt after todayâs trip, I think Iâll be able to walk home without the cast.â
âAlright, you can take the cast off and go home.â (Toru)
âAll right! Now I can finally move around freely!â
âHiroto, itâs not fully healed yet, itâs just a cast. You still have to occasionally go to the hospital and do rehabilitation. The cast also reduced the strength of the muscles in that area, so you wonât be allowed to participate in club activities for a while.â (Toru)
âI understand that Iâm not allowed to participate in club activities, but canât I assist in the practice while doing rehabilitation?â
âIâll ask the rehabilitation doctor about that. After I get the cast off, Iâll introduce you to the physiotherapist and weâll go together. Professional athletes also come here, so you can rest assured.â
âToru-san is quite famous as an orthopedic doctor, arenât you?â
âHaha. Iâll start then.â (Toru)
Iâm not sure why Toru-san was too embarrassed to answer. Heâs quite famous around here and was always my mothersâ go-to doctor.
After removing the cast, I walked to the rehab room with Toru-san to check on my leg.
âHiroto-kun. Do you have spare time? Itâs going to take a while to get the details.â
âThe only thing Iâve got planned for the rest of the day is some club activities in the evening.â
âThen letâs look carefully.â
Toru and I went into the rehab room and looked at the rehabilitation methods I could do at home and my scheduled future visits to the rehabilitation center.
I was about to leave the rehab room when I heard a Toru-san saying, âHiroto, Iâm going home soon, do you want a ride?â
âSorry, Toru-san, but Iâm going to take the train home. Iâll do some rehabilitation when Iâm there.â
âOkay. Just make sure you donât push yourself too hard.â (Toru)
After parting ways with Toru, I paid the bill and walked towards the exit of the hospital.
Iâm so happy to be able to move my feet freely⦠Iâll have to report back to Yoichiro at night. Even after shopping, I wonât be getting home that late. As I approached the automatic exit door, I saw Aizawa-san standing there with a large bag.
I wonder what sheâs doing here? I should at least say something to her.
âAizawa-san, what are you doing in a place like this?â
âOh! Youâre here. I was waiting for you!â (Haruka)
âMe? Whatâs up?â
âI wanted to thank you for what happened earlierâ¦â
âAre you talking about the blonde guy from before?â
âYes⦠you helped me out a lot.â
âI didnât do much, though. Letâs just call it as thanks for the cake you gave me.â
I didnât really do anything deserving of a reward, so it would be mean to make her do something. I hope she understands.
âThe cake is different, okay?â
Sheâs surprisingly persistentâ¦I donât know what Iâm going to do.. Come to think of it, I came to the hospital right after school, and I didnât eat anything, so Iâll have to get something later.
âDid you eat lunch? Itâs well past noon.â (Hiroto)
âI havenât eaten yet, how did you know?â (Haruka)
âOh, I didnât. I didnât have time to eat, so I thought Aizawa-san, who was also at the ceremony, might not have eaten either. If you havenât eaten yet, why not thank me with a meal?â
âYes. I was just about to suggest that. Shall we go then?â
I told her that I had to go to the mall to buy something, and we decided to meet up after to have dinner.
âAizawa-san, give me that bag.â
I pointed to the large bag that Ms. Aizawa was carrying.
âNoâ¦itâs okay. Itâs just my grandmaâs clothes, so itâs light.â
âItâll be good for rehabilitation, so please lend it to me.â
âIt canât be helped⦠thank you, Yoshizumi-sanâ¦â
Of course, there is no such rehabilitation. It was a lie.
