Chapter 108 [MIA]
Alex didnât have to work a day of his life for his good looks. His father didnât even look like his father, he could easily pass as his elder brother.
Alex was an identical copy of his father- his height, body, face, hair, everything except for his eyes. His entire family had brown eyes except for him.
And, his parents were normal people.
They didnât glare, they didnât look murderous, they werenât arrogant and they certainly didnât walk like everyone else was just dust beneath their shoes. Unlike a certain someone, who had a manufacturing defect it seemed, because he turned out nothing like his family.
âOh no, Mia, call me Sofia,â Alexâs mother told me when I called her Mrs. Whitlock, after they called me in and asked me to sit in the living room where they were all settled previously.
âSofia,â I smile at her, âThank you.â
âSo, who are you?â Aurora eyes me, Gabrielâs twin. They were fraternal, and looked so different but when she gave me that suspicious look, I could swear I saw exactly how related they were.
âMia?â I offer.
âSheâs a colleagues sister,â Gabriel lies effortlessly, not even blinking. âHe asked me to take care of her for a few days till heâs...
busy.â
âHm,â Aurora frowns, not buying her brotherâs lie.
âSo, Mia, what do you do?â Alexâs father asked.
âI am a baker,â I reply in a small voice.
âReally?â Sofiaâs eyes shone. âI loved baking too, when I was younger.â
âReally, Mama?â Aurora enquired, and Sofia nodded, and so they began talking about things, how Sofia loved to bake before how troublesome the twins were as toddlers. There were even stories about how Alex was so jealous Ronan was going to be born that he threw himself down the stairs and gave everyone a scare, hence the faded scar on his forehead.
e and It was past midnight when the stories and laughs ended, and the older Whitlocks ushered us to sleep since Gabriel had a meeting early in the morning.
âMia, should I prep the guest room for you?â Sofia asks me affectionately, and I smile at her.
âIf itâs not too much trouble?â Ever since Sofia found out I grew up without parents, she had taken an extra liking towards me.
Even Alexâs fatherâs eyes had softened.
âOf course it isnât.â
âBut Mom,â Aurora protested. âThe guest roomâs AC isnât working, remember?â
âHuh?â Sofia asked, confused.
Chapter 108 âIt isnât working.â Aurora announced. âAnd the other guest room still has Lunaâs stuff remember? And the third one, Ronan turned into a man- den for his eighteenth birthday and you guys allowed him under the pretext we barely have guests.â
âI- I can sleep without AC,â I offered, not wanting to a burden. I had been thrown out of foster homes for being an inconvenience one too many times.
âNonsense!â Aurora dismissed it. âIâll prep Ronanâs room for you.â
Ronan, Alexâs almost twentyâone year old brother that had come up in conversation multiple times but wasnât around for the night.
Alex glared at his twin.
âWhat?â She shrugged with a smug smile. âHeâs partying. Heâs going to most likely not even make it home. And Iâll leave him a text to pass out in the guest room if he does end up coming home.â
âNo.â Alex refuses.
âWhat no?â Aurora retorts. âI would have offered for her to stay with me but I have work to do and Iâm going to be up till like 3 AM, and Iâm sure sheâs so tired after travelling.â
My cheeks were flustered. âI- I can manage anywhere, Iâll be okay, really.â
âSheâll stay with me,â Alex announces.
âShe will?â Aurora smirked.
My eyes widened. âI will?â
The older Whitlocks both exchanged amused smiles, wishing us goodnight and leaving upstairs.
âI have to keep an eye on her till her brotherâs busy, donât I?â Alex offers. âHow can I do that if sheâs not where I can keep an eye on her?â
âYes, because Ronan possesses such danger to Mia,â Aurora muses, her smirk widening.
Her twin glares at her, and she glares back till Alex sighs and shakes his head and she smiles triumphantly.
âGoodnight Alex. Goodnight Mia,â she grinned. âOur room is just adjacent, so keep down the noises, if there are going to be any.â
She winks at me, and I think I turn as red as a tomato.
âWeâre not like that,â I tell her in a mumble.
âNot your business, Auro,â Alex glares at her, and not playfully like he has been doing all this while. He glares at her icily, coldly the way I had gotten used to.
She blinks, pouts and walks away flipping her hair, and then flipping him off.
I turn to Alex with a small smile. âYou have a nice family.â
âNice?â He cocks an eyebrow. âYou call that nice?â
âMhâhm.â I nod, pursing my lips. âMakes me wonder what happened to you.â
Chapter 108 He acts offended, which I knew he wasnât.
âNo, seriously,â I pushed. âWhen I first met you, I thought you would have had an abusive childhood for you to turn out so...â
âCold?â He offers.
âMonstrous,â I quipped.
He glares. âI have killed people for calling me much lesser than that.â
âAnd yet, you wonât kill me.â
âYet,â he conditions. âI wonât kill you yet.â
I huff, following him wherever he was walking, probably to his room. It was down the same hallway Mia had walked into, and he leads me into a door.
His bedroom was big, much like mine at his house. Dark blue wallpapers, a king sized bed, a huge walkâin wardrobe along with an even bigger bathroom. Blue curtains separated the balcony, which had a table and a few chairs set outside.
I notice how it wasnât dusty despite not having been used since a while.
As luxurious as the room was, that wasnât why my heart started beating louder in my chest.
It was because of the bed.
There was only one bed.
