Chapter 111 [MIA]
âSo, Mia, howâd you get into baking?â
âItâs a simple hobby,â I raise my shoulders in a shrug, adding too much sugar into the mix as I was instructed. âAnd I needed something to keep me busy.â
âThatâs it?â Ronan cocks an unimpressed eyebrow. âNo touching story about how your mom passed on her secret recipes to you before she took her last breath?â
I laughed. âNot many touching stories to go around when you donât have a Mom.â
âAh.â He clicked his tongue, offering no sympathies.
âWhat do you do?â I ask him, âExcept be a hellion and get on your brotherâs nerves.â
âI love how youâve gotten to know me ohâsoâmuch in an hour of knowing me,â he whips the cake mix, âAnd getting on my brotherâs nerves is my birth right. I am the only man he wouldnât kill.â
I shrug. âNot hearing a real hobby in there, Ronan.â
âI party.â
âStill not a hobby.â
âYou sound like my sister,â he scrunches his nose. âAnd I donât willingly consider hot girls my sister.â
âIâm hot?â I cock an eyebrow. âBecause I do remember you saying about five minutes ago that I look like a grandmother when I get too. protective about my recipes.â
âOnly when you get too protective about your recipes.â He smugly smiles.
âToo old for you, Ron.â
âFour years,â he nonchalantly muses while passing the cake mix to me, âBesides, I like old.â
âYouâre barely an adult,â I chuckle under my breath.
âHey! Iâm twentyâone.â
âNot with the way youâre whining, youâre not.â I laugh louder. âAnd making an extremely sweet cake just to see your brotherâs reaction? Not very mature.â
âRemember what I told you?â He grinned, âBirth right.â
Ronan was much more easy going and a way better company than his older brother, especially to talk. He didnât glare. He didnât grunt. He didnât give murderous glances.
As if trueing that quote âthink of the devil and the devil appearsâ, I had just been thinking of him and he appeared, leaning on the entrance of Chapter 111 the kitchen. âWhatâs going on here?â Alex mused, eyes flickering from his younger brother to me.
Topen my mouth to answer, but no words come out as I take in his rolled up white shirt. Those hands. They were going to be the death of me. Flashbacks of the morning made their way to me, and I gulped.
âMiaâs spending time with her favourite Whitlock,â Ronan replied, a smug smile challenging his brother.
One of Alexâs brow raised, his eyes finding mine. âIs that so?â
âNo,â I lean forward on the counter. âMy favourite Whitlock happens to be Sofia. Your momâs so pretty.â
âDo you play for the other team, Mia?â Ronan asked all seriously. âDid I spend all this time flirting with you for nothing?â
âFlirting?â Alexâs ears perked, and he walked in. âYou were flirting with her?â
âHealthy flirting. Unserious flirting.â Ronan chuckled nervously, tossing the cake batter into the preâheated oven. âYou remember that thing! told you about how I wouldnât be killed?â He whispers to me, âIâm beginning to doubt that.â
I roll my eyes at his dramatics.
âIâI should go and call Aurora. She went for a lunch and isnât here yet.â The nervous smile still gracing Ronanâs face, he strides off, leaving me alone with his elder brother in the kitchen.
I shake my head with a laugh before setting the oven, ignoring Alex who walked in.
âSo?â He asked.
âSo?â I repeat, dumbly, grabbing all ingredients from the kitchen counter one by one and putting them in their right place.
âWere you flirting with my brother, cupcake?â
âMore like he was flirting with me,â I chuckle under my breath.
âAnd?â
âAnd?â I show Alex my pointed eyes, one that have zero affect on him at all. One of his hands grabs the counter in the direction that I was going, blocking my path and forcing me to stop in front of him.
His other hand wraps on the back of my neck, jerking me closer to him.
My breath freezes at how close he stood.
Alex doesnât kiss.
He had never kissed me. We had had sex, but there were no kisses, no hugs, no cuddles involved. It was fucking.
âI donât share,â he grunts.
I bite my lower lip. âAlex, heâs your younger brother.â
Chapter 111 Hohale. âYouâre impossible... caveman.â
âMine.â he reminds me.
âIn life and death,â I repeat if it were a mantra now. âI remember.â
âGood.â
âYouâve never kissed me,â I think aloud.
Something flickers in his eyes, and his hand retreats. âDo you want me to?â
âNâNo?â 1 offer. Just say yes. Damn it. Missed opportunity. âI meant, it was an observation. You donât kiss.â
âIâve never kissed.â
My eyes widened to the point where I thought they would pop out. âYouâve never had a first kiss?!â
âWhatâs the point of kissing?â He raises his shoulders, taking a step back from me and I kissed the warmth that radiated out of him when he stood closer. âIâve never understood the allure.â
My lips part and I hide a smile. âYouâve never kissed anyone.â
He shakes his head as if it wasnât a big deal.
It was. It totally was.
âHave you?â He asked.
âDuh.â
âYou said that like it was the most obvious thing in the world.â
âIt is?â I sheepishly reply. âKissing is... common.â
âWho have you kissed?â He asked, crossing his hands in front of his chest.
âA few?â
âNames, cupcake.â
âWâWhy?â I chuckle nervously.
âI want to just have a talk with them.â
âAlex!â I huff.
âWhat?â
âAm I interrupting?â A third voice makes me jump in my place while Alex doesnât even flinch, rolling his eyes at his twin.
âYes.â âNo!â We answer at the same time.
Aurora smirks looking at us, clearly in a better mood than she left in, her cheeks a little flushed. âIâm taking Mia,â she tells Alex.
âWeâre going to have some girls time.â
Alex shakes his head when Aurora grabs my wrist and drags me away from him, and I just knew his twin sister meant so much more to him than he let on. At home, he wasnât the mafia strategist Alex King. He was just Alex. And I loved every bit of that version of a plain, simple him.
Loved.
I let that word sink in while I spoke to Aurora about so many things like we were the best of pals and Alex glared at both of us from the couch where he played some video game with Ronan who kept winking at me despite the death stares he received from his older brother.
This felt normal, a kind of normal that I had never felt before, and I pondered upon how I felt that because of a Mafia man who uprooted my life.
