Chapter 130 [ALEX]
As much as I hated that my parents had to be in the centre of the world I strived to protect them from, my mother had been a Godsend for the next week.
My wife refused to speak to anybody except her.
It was a week before Mia was sent home, and the only person she let into her bubble was my mother and occasionally Lana.
Not me. Never me.
I didnât miss the way her body visibly shuddered the day I got her back to my house. She didnât look at me once, not the entire drive back and it killed me. Her eyes turned misty every time I tried visiting, so I had to wait until her pain killers knocked her out to sit next to her.
I think my father wanted to give me a lot of s**t, but seeing my condition stopped him from doing that. Even Aurora called and asked about Mia even though I knew it pained every bone in her body to not tell me she would hate me forever for getting married without inviting her.
I stood outside Miaâs room the evening we brought her, even the increased security and absurd number of guards/ soldiers not seeming enough.
My mother was inside, wishing her goodnight. The most annoying part about all this had been that my mom refused to tell me anything they talked about- just assuring me she wouldnât talk about what happened in the hours she was taken, and I partially considered flying my sister in. At least she would let me in on the girls time.
Not to forget, Dominic was in a COMA, He had severe injuries to his head and a gun shot wound, making him lose blood and he slipped into shock and then coma. The two people who actually knew what happened in there and could tell me, wouldnât. The audacity of that fucker to still not get up. It wrecked me to not know what they did to my wife, what she went through, especially since she wouldnât talk about it. Not to me, my mother or even the therapist I forced to sit opposite her for an hour every day.
Sometimes she just stared at the therapist. Once, she actually fell asleep.
My stubborn wife.
âDid Damien demote you from the strategist to a soldier?â My father quipped, and I turn around to give him a dry look.
âVery funny.â I try not glaring, because Mafia or not, my father can still have my balls on a platter if he wishes, just like he can have Damienâs. âWhatâre you doing here?â

âWaiting for my wife,â he replies, âWhoâs currently inside with your wife. You know, the one you married without telling any of us.â
I shouldâve known this was coming any time now that Mia was out of the hospital. I sighed. âDad...â
âSave it, Alex.â My father looked at me pointedly. âYour mother burst into tears wondering if we had let you get away too far by letting you always follow your mind. She questioned if she was doing something wrong as a mother.â
I huff some air out of my mouth. âYou guys are the best parents in the world, alright?â I tell him, âThe best.â
âI know that,â he replies with smug confidence, âYour mother tends to forget that when you act like an insolent punk.â
âIâm sorry,â I say in a small voice. âLike I told you before, everything happened so fast.â
âMaybe it shouldnât have, because your wife wouldnât even look at you,â He glared at me. âTell me you didnât drag the poor girl kicking and crying to your altar.â
I stay silent.
âAlex Whitlock, I swear to G**d, if you have forced her into this marriage, it would be your last living day.â His voice raises considerably and I grimaced.
âFrom what I was told, you forced Mom into a marriage too. In fact, you made her sign a contract.â I reply, âSo much for a love marriage, huh?â
My dadâs eyes narrow. âWho told you that?â
âDoes it matter?â I smugly reply.
âF**g Damien.â He curses under his breath before feigning a glare at me. I loved watching the ever-so put together Gabriel Whitlock squirm. This was fun. âI didnât force her, and we did fall in love... eventually.â
âFrom what I hear, you werenât even there when I and Aurora were born. You came the next day.â
âYou little piece of-â His voice trails when my Mom comes out of the room.
âSheâs asleep,â she tells me before turning to her husband. âWhatâre you doing here, Gabriel?â
âYour son was just explaining the circumstances under which he had to get married. Turns out, itâs not his fault that we werenât invited. It really did happen fast.â My dad accepts begrudgingly, and I try my best to conceal the smirk that wanted to spread on my lips.
Did I just emotionally blackmail my dad?

âIâll let this pass and you let the rest pass.â My dad bargains, âHowever, is she wants out, you give it to her. I raised you better than that. Deal?â
1 smile for the first time in days and it was so wide, it reached my eyes. âDeal.â
âAnd you donât tell your sister a word about it,â He adds in a warning tone.
âFavourite kid, huh?â
âMy only daughter.â
âOuch.â I grinned while he playfully hit the back of my neck and left.
My smile disappeared as soon as he was gone, and a long sigh escaped me when I grabbed the files on the Italian mobs that I had been studying day and night, and then entered Miaâs room to do what I do every night.
Just sit by her side and convince myself sheâs real, sheâs okay, and sheâs mine
