Chapter 30

Her Bodyguard

He climbed into bed, got on top of her, and placed his lips on her neck, leaving soft little kisses as he moved up until he reached her lips.

“Dexter,” she moaned softly when she felt his lips on her neck. “We can’t do this here.”

“Why not?” he asked, covering her mouth with his, not giving her the chance to answer back.

His hand moved down, lifting her nightgown up over her hips. She never wore panties to bed, something he always appreciated. He felt between her legs, which she eagerly opened for him.

He moaned into her mouth when he felt how wet she was. So taking a hold of his manhood, he placed himself at her entrance, rubbing against her pussy before thrusting himself inside her.

It wasn’t their usual lovemaking. It was gentler and quieter, so as not to make too much noise.

It was actually kind of sweet, the slow movements, which they found to be just as sexually fulfilling as the rough-and-tumble sex.

But when they were getting close to climaxing, he sped up, going deeper as he moved faster. He let out a grunt when he came, burying his face in the crook of her neck.

***

When she felt his weight on top of her and his lips on her neck, she opened her eyes. Telling him that they couldn’t have sex here went in one ear and out the other.

He didn’t bother to remove her nightgown, which he had always done in the past. This time he just pushed her nightgown up over her hips.

To be honest, it was kind of sexy this way, to be only half-undressed while making love. The sex was different, gentle, with slow movements as he moved up and down, like in slow motion.

They stared into each other’s eyes as they quietly made love. But then she felt his manhood throbbing and knew he was close to cumming.

Her breathing became erratic. Her heart was racing, her core throbbing, and she knew she was about to let go also. Then, as their bodies slapped together, they both got the relief they needed.

She ran her fingers through his hair when he collapsed with his face against her neck. “I don’t know about you, but that was amazing.”

He lifted his head to look at her. “I feel the same way.”

He rolled over and lay on his back, motioning for her to come closer, which she did, placing her cheek on his chest as his arm wrapped around her.

“Tomorrow we’ll go into town and I’ll show you around.”

Dexter was surprised when he woke up alone in bed the next morning. He was usually the first one to wake up before everyone else.

He took a quick shower and got dressed and headed downstairs. He could smell bacon frying, and when he walked into the kitchen he found the other three already there.

His father was reading the paper, and his mother and Roxie were cooking breakfast.

“Morning, sweetheart,” Amelia said, giving him a warm welcoming smile.

He said good morning to everyone and walked over to Roxie and gave her a kiss on the cheek. “You should have woken me up.”

“I could have, but you looked so adorable sleeping. Besides, I was having a good time getting to know your parents a little better.”

When she had awakened and gone downstairs, Amelia and Oliver were sitting at the table, having their morning coffee. She stood back to watch them before they noticed her standing there.

She thought it was so amazing how much in love they appeared to be, with his hand over the top of hers as they looked into each other’s eyes.

She could hear the respect they had for each other and could hear the love in their voices. For being married as long as they had, it was nice to know that they were still so deeply in love.

It made her wonder if she was wrong about marriage. Could one stay faithful and in love throughout their marriage and live forever happily?

From what she had heard, even Dexter’s grandparents had lived a long and happy life together. He’d once told her to take a leap of faith. Maybe it was time she did.

After they were done eating their breakfast and talking to his parents, they headed into town. He drove around pointing out all the spots he used to hang out at.

Then they decided to park the car and take a walk through the town. Some of the shop owners recognized him and came out of their stores to talk to him and were introduced to Roxie.

As they continued on their walk, holding hands, he stopped in front of a small restaurant.

“I can’t believe this is still here,” he said, trying to look through the window.

“So what is this place?” she asked.

“It’s one of those old mom-and-pop shops. We all came here as teenagers after dances at the high school and ordered fries and milkshakes.

“They used to have those little jukeboxes on every table. I wonder if they still do,” he said more to himself than to her.

She looked up at him and saw that little twinkle in his eye. “There’s one way to find out. Let’s go in, and you can buy your girl a milkshake, and I’ll even share it with you.”

A big old smile crossed his face when he looked at her. “Yes, I would love to buy my girl anything she wants.”

Taking hold of her hand, he opened the door, and they entered. It was just the way he remembered it. Nothing had changed. And teenagers obviously still came here.

He spotted the booth that he always used whenever he went there, so he walked over to it and had her slide into the booth, and he got in next to her.

Putting his arm around her shoulder, he pointed to the jukebox. “Wow, I can’t believe they still have these here.” He reached into his pocket and took out some coins. “Pick a song for us.”

While she was busy looking for the perfect song, the waitress came over, and he ordered a chocolate milkshake and a plate of fries for the two of them to share.

After she picked out a couple of songs and the money was put in, she sat back and turned her head to look at him. “So is this where you brought your dates?”

“Usually, before we went to a place we called Make-Out Cliff.”

“Make-Out Cliff, you say. Did you take a lot of girls there?”

A small smirk appeared on his face. “I was a teenage boy. My hormones were all over the place. So yeah, there were a few.” He could see she was a tiny bit jealous hearing this.

“But if I knew you back then and we went to the same high school together, I would have asked you out, and you would have been the only girl I would have taken up there.”

He relaxed when he saw that his reply seemed to make her happy.

The waitress delivered their food and placed it on the table and took a second look at Dexter.

“Oh my God. Is that really you, Dexter Sinclair? It’s me, Ruth Michaels. We dated for a while in high school. Well, not really dated. We just went out a few times.”

He looked at her, and to be honest, he really couldn’t remember her, but he didn’t want to hurt her feelings.

“Ruth, you look great. So how have you been? Oh, I want you to meet my girlfriend, Roxie Greene.”

After saying hi to Roxie, she turned her attention back to him.

“I’ve been doing really well since the last time you saw me. I got married and have five daughters, and as you can see, I put on a little bit of weight.”

“No, you look great,” he said, trying to be a gentleman.

“You were always such a flirt. I think that’s why you were able to get into my pants on the first date. Oh, we had some great times, didn’t we?”

He felt Roxie tensing up beside him, probably thinking that he was some kind of male slut. “It was nice seeing you again.”

When she took the hint and left, he turned to look at Roxie. “It wasn’t as bad as she makes out, and to be honest, I don’t even remember her.”

“So you slept with that many girls, that you can’t remember all of them?”

He put his arm over her shoulder again, playing with a strand of her hair.

“Look, there were only a couple of girls I slept with. It’s not as bad as she’s making it out to sound. And it was a long time ago. Please tell me you’re not going to be mad about it.”

“You’re right. It was a long time ago. It’s just that my experience with boys is only limited to one. Plus you, of course.”

She gave him a sexy smile. “Maybe you can take me to this make-out place before we go back home to New York?”

“It’s a date,” he said, picking up a fry and feeding it to her.

After they finished sharing the fries and milkshake, they left the restaurant and walked toward his car, and when they got to it he stopped, staring in front of him.

“Dexter, what’s wrong?” she asked, then looked over to where he was staring.

She saw a woman staring back at him. Their eyes were locked together. From the way his face turned pale and the look on his face, she just knew this had to be his ex-girlfriend.

“Is that her? Is that Jill?”

“That’s her,” he answered with bitterness.

Jill walked toward him, stopping just inches away. “Dexter, it’s been a long time. You look good. Really good.”

“Yes, it’s been a long time,” he said, opening the door to the car.

Jill moved a little bit closer. “Please don’t go. We really need to talk.”

He slammed the car door shut, scaring Roxie. “The time to talk was years ago. I’ve got nothing to say to you.” He felt Roxie tugging on his arm and looked at her. “What?”

“You need to talk to her, to find out why they did what they did to you. Sweetheart, the only way to get closure and to move on is to get answers to any questions you might have.”

He let out a sigh, knowing that she had a point. So looking over at Jill, he spoke in a harsh tone. “We’ll meet you in the park, and you have five minutes.”

The woman nodded her head. She turned and headed in the direction of the park, while they got into the car and drove there.

They parked the car and got out and walked over to the bench where Jill was sitting waiting for them.

“Are you going to introduce me to your lady friend?”

“This is my girlfriend, Roxie Greene.”

“It’s nice to meet you, Roxie.”

“We’re not here to socialize. I told you, you have five minutes, so you better get talking.”

“Stanley and I tried to get in touch with you to explain, but you would never answer our calls or our letters. He felt even worse than I did about what happened.”

“What happened was you and my so-called best friend were screwing behind my back, even when I came home for visits. I came back home to you, and I find out that you married him.

“You never even wrote to tell me. I had to find out about it when I got back here. So don’t give me this crap about the two of you feeling bad for what you did. There’s no excuse for it.”

“You’ve got it all wrong. We didn’t mean for it to happen, didn’t mean to fall in love, but we did.”

“You should have told me.”

“We wanted to. It was killing us to keep it a secret from you, but we had no choice.”

“Like fuck you didn’t have a choice. Everyone has a choice.” Seeing the woman that he once thought he loved starting to cry did not affect him one little bit. He was not going to fall for her tears.

“Dexter, you were going on all of these dangerous missions. We were scared that if we told you it would put you in danger. We didn’t want you feeling hurt or angry while you were over there.

“We knew you had to keep your mind in a good state in order to survive. We were going to tell you as soon as you got back and were out of the service.

“We were even going to wait to get married until after telling you, but we were so much in love we just couldn’t wait. I’m so sorry that we hurt you, but it looks to me like you found your true love.”

He looked over at the beautiful woman that was clinging to his arm, and he smiled. “Yes, I have found the woman that I was meant to be with.”

He looked back over at Jill. “You still should have told me as soon as it first started between the two of you. I had a right to know.”

“I hope you no longer hate us, and maybe we can all be friends?”

He let out a sarcastic laugh. “No, I don’t think so. I can’t be friends with people who lie and cheat. But I no longer hate either one of you, and I hope that you’re both happy, because I know I am.”

Jill wiped the tears from her eyes. “I understand. And yes, we are extremely happy and very much in love. We have two boys, twins, aged two.

“Is there any way I can talk you both into coming back to my place and saying hello to Stanley? I know he’d love to see you again.”

He shook his head. “No, I don’t wish to see him. Just tell him that I no longer hate him and that I wish you both well. Goodbye, Jill.”

Roxie said goodbye to her and followed Dexter back to the car. Once they were seated inside, she took hold of his hand, giving him a smile. “I’m really proud of you for talking with her.”

He raised her hand to his lips and kissed her fingertips. “I’m glad we talked, and I do feel better, and I thank you for encouraging me to do it. I meant it when I said I wish them well.

“They actually did me a favor. By them falling in love, it gave me the opportunity to meet the woman I was meant to be with, the one I love with all of my heart and would give my life to save.”
