Chapter 34

Her Bodyguard

On the morning of the wedding, Dexter woke up feeling sad that the woman who stole his heart was not lying in bed next to him. Instead, she had spent the night at her father’s.

He would have put his foot down and said she couldn’t go, but his mother was here, and knowing how she felt about traditions, he kept quiet.

He was going to have a quiet night in, but Chad decided to pop over, bringing some of the other guys along with alcohol.

Since he refused to have a bachelor party, this was Chad’s way of celebrating. He also brought porn over for everyone to watch.

Knowing he was getting married in the morning, he barely touched the alcohol, nor did he have any desire to watch porn.

Not wanting to spoil his friends’ fun, he let them get drunk and ordered them pizza while they watched the movies.

He, on the other hand, kept busy on his laptop, going over his next lesson to the rookies when he returned to work.

The next morning:

He got out of bed, took a shower, and then went to the kitchen for something to eat. Chad was passed out, his one leg draped over the edge of the couch.

He kicked Chad’s leg. “Wake up.”

“Dexter, stop. My head is killing me.”

“Get up and go take a shower. I don’t want my best man smelling of booze when we get to the church.”

Sitting up, Chad rubbed the back of his head and growled, “Damn, I feel like shit.” He looked at Dexter.

“Don’t worry. A hot shower and a load of coffee will perk me up,” he said, getting up. He staggered to the bathroom.

***

At the Greene’s mansion: Roxie was just waking up when there was a knock at her door and Amelia poked her head in.

“Morning, sweetheart. I hope you don’t mind, but I brought you some coffee and some toast. I thought you might like a little something in your stomach to start your day.”

She walked over to the bed and placed the tray over Roxie’s lap.

“Thanks, Amelia.”

“Now, there will be none of that. Call me Mom. That is, if you want to. After all, in a few hours, I’ll be your mother-in-law.”

“I would be honored to call you Mom.”

“I’ve always wanted a daughter, and I couldn’t have asked for a better daughter-in-law than you.

“My son is so lucky to have found you, and he will be a good husband to you. If not, he’ll have me to answer to.”

“I know he will be.”

“Honey, you are a smart woman. You have your own company. I just hope you won’t get so busy that you won’t have time for Dexter.”

“Mom, I love him, and he will always be my first priority. I would give up everything if I thought that would happen.

“That’s why I hired Carson and Cathy as managers, so that I could spend most of my time with him.”

After talking for a while, she went and showered before going down to breakfast.

Her father was there, and she was glad that over the last several months his divorce from Claudia was finalized and he had started seeing a woman his age.

When they were done eating, her father asked her to take a walk in the garden with him.

“Roxie, I want you to know how much I love you and how glad I am you have found it in your heart to forgive me.

“Your mother would be so proud to see how you’ve turned out. Beautiful, strong, and with a heart of gold.”

“Dad, I do forgive you, but I will never forget what you and Claudia did. I want you to know, I didn’t forgive you just because you gave me the New York company.”

“I know. I gave you the company not to get you to forgive me, but because you earned it. I’ve already seen how the company has soared with the changes you’ve made.

“I should have given it to you a long time ago. Dexter’s a good man, and I know you’re in safe hands with him.

“The way he looks at you, the love in his eyes tells me he will love you until the day he dies. I’m so happy for you.”

“Yes, he’s a good man, and I’m glad you found someone too. Sandra is a really nice woman. She’s kind and not fake.”

“Yeah, I really like her. And she likes me for me, not for my money. I think it’s time for you to start getting ready for your wedding.” He gave her a hug, and they went back inside.

It was getting close to the time when they would have to leave for the church, and Cathy helped Roxie with her dress. She wore the earrings her father gave her and her mother’s diamond necklace.

Cathy stood back to admire her. “Roxie, I don’t think I have ever seen a more beautiful bride. You’re absolutely glowing.”

She stood there looking at her. “You wouldn’t happen to be pregnant, would you?”

She covered her mouth and laughed. “No, I am not pregnant. I’m just so happy and can’t wait to be Mrs. Sinclair. I’ll be honest. I’m excited about our honeymoon.

“Dexter promised me that it will be the best time of my life.” She didn’t tell Cathy that she saw him packing his handcuffs and knew he was finally going to do what she had been asking for.

They made their way to the church. Dexter and the others were already there. “Sweetheart, you look so beautiful, and I’m so proud of you,” Thomas said, kissing her cheek.

“Are you ready to walk down the aisle?”

“Oh yes. I’m so ready.”

The church was filled with over three hundred guests, who would also be at the reception. The music started, and after the bridesmaids and maid of honor made their way down, it was Roxie’s turn.

All heads turned to look at her as she made her way to the front, where Dexter stood, watching her.

When he saw her, he felt as though his heart was going to explode with happiness. Their eyes locked, and they smiled back at each other.

The first moment he had laid eyes on her, he’d felt something but tried to fight it. But there was no denying the fact that he’d fallen in love with her at first sight.

He loved everything about her: her body, her warmth, her mind, and her beautiful soul. They were meant to be together, brought together by a force unknown, to save each other.

She had saved him from a life of loneliness and showed him that true love did exist.

After they placed the rings on their fingers and were pronounced husband and wife, they sealed it with a long and tender kiss.

There wasn’t much time to talk, as Vince was running around like a chicken with its head cut off, shouting orders into his earpiece and carrying his clipboard.

When they got outside of the church, he gave the order to release the dozen white love doves. Everyone stood in awe as they flew into the air.

In the car on the drive to the hall, Dexter put his arm around her once they were in the back seat.

“I want you to know I think you look so beautiful, and when I saw you walking down the aisle, it was all I could do to stop from crying.

“I know there’s a driver up front, but I’m going to kiss you, and I’m not going to stop until we get to the reception, Mrs. Sinclair.”

“Well, what are you waiting for?” she said, pulling his head down and placing her lips against his.

The driver stopped the car and looked in his rearview mirror and smiled. He could hear them kissing and moaning the whole drive.

“Excuse me, Mr. and Mrs. Sinclair. We’re here, and everyone is waiting for you inside.”

They pulled apart, and she wiped her mouth to reapply her lipstick. “I guess we better go in. The sooner we get this over with, the sooner we can get to the honeymoon.”

The hall was decorated beautifully. They were impressed with the job Vince had done. Everything was perfect. The food, the music, and the cake were amazing.

Dexter, seeing how happy his bride was, decided to give Vince a huge bonus for making Roxie’s day extra special.

The time came for the music and their first dance as husband and wife. He put his arms around her, and they started the dance, staring into each other’s eyes as they swayed to the music.

“I didn’t get a chance to tell you before that your dress is so beautiful. You are beautiful, and you’re all mine, now and forever. I love you.”

“I love you too, more than you will ever know. I want to thank you for letting me have the wedding of my dreams.”

“I will give you everything you want. Your happiness will always be my only job. A day will never go by that you will want for anything.”

“I have everything I want now, and that is you.” She rested her head on his shoulder. She could feel his heart beating against her chest.

“Will you still love me when I’m old and gray and lose my looks?”

“You will always be beautiful in my eyes as we grow old together. Roxie, never doubt my love for you or my loyalty.” He lifted her chin up to kiss her as people watched on.

When it came time to cut the cake, everyone gathered around. Vince was still busy running around to make sure that things were running smoothly.

The only thing that went wrong was that they delivered a different wine than the one he’d ordered, but Roxie told him that it was all right and not to worry about it.

And Vince was relieved that at least they had sent the right champagne.

Roxie held the knife, with Dexter’s hand on top of hers, as they cut the cake.

Taking a small slice, they fed it to each other as everyone watched on, before the caterer came and cut pieces for the rest of the guests.

It was a beautiful wedding. The hall was decorated beautifully. The live band played music that everyone enjoyed and could dance to.

Dexter went over to his mother. Taking her hand, he led her onto the dance floor for a dance.

Amelia had taught her son to do many different types of dances, so they decided to do the waltz, as everyone watched on.

Roxie felt a sense of pride in her husband as she watched how elegantly he danced. Mother and son made quite an impression on all the guests, who clapped their hands at the end of the dance.

Watching her husband move around the dance floor, his muscular body moving with such grace and confidence turned her on, and she couldn’t wait to start their honeymoon.

It was time to change their clothes and get ready to leave for the airport. Dexter went up first and removed his tux and changed into a pair of dress pants, a white shirt, and a jacket.

It was decided ahead of time that they would change separately, because if they were to go up together, things would happen and they would miss her flight.

He came back down to the party and went over and whispered in her ear. “Time to change, sweetheart. We don’t want to miss our flight.”

She gave him a wicked smile. “Do you want to come up and help me?”

“We both know what will happen if I do.”

Placing her hands on each side of his face, she reached up and kissed him. “I can’t wait to get to where we’re going. And you better make sure you use the handcuffs.”

She walked away with an air of confidence. She knew that he didn’t know that she had seen him pack them, so she smiled to herself as she left to go change.
