Chapter 9
Her Bodyguard
As they stood before each other, he looked down at her slightly parted lips. He wanted to know what it would be like to feel them against his. She moved closer, their bodies almost touching.
He stared into her eyes. The way she was looking back at him had his heart beating faster.
âRoxie, we canât do this.â
âWhy not?â she asked, her hands reaching up and going around his neck.
âItâs not right,â he said, removing her arms from his neck. He turned, and when he had his hand on the doorknob, she spoke, and he stopped.
âDexter, donât go.â
He locked the door and turned back around and rushed over to her. Pulling her into his arms, he crashed his lips against hers, kissing her with lust and desire.
Since meeting her, heâd fought to keep his distance, but he could no longer fight the sexual attraction between them.
With the feel of her hands on his neck, the thumb rubbing his cheek, he moaned into her mouth.
Her hand moved down to his pants, and as she was undoing them, he stopped kissing her to pull his shirt over his head and throw it down.
He cupped the back of her head with one hand, drawing her in for another kiss as his free hand tore the towel off of her body. His kiss was rough as he explored her body with his free hand.
With his pants and briefs down around his ankles, he kicked them away. He picked her up and carried her over to the bed and lowered her down, getting on top of her.
Tearing his mouth from her lips, he placed them on her neck, moving his hand down and between her legs. She was wet, moaning as she lifted her hips when his two fingers entered her.
âDexter, oh, that feels so good,â she said as he continued to fingerfuck her. She felt her body convulsing before she came all over his hand.
Her head was pressed back into the pillow. She arched her back when he moved up, wrapping his mouth over her breast.
She let out a gasp when she felt him enter her. He filled her with his huge cock, moving up and down.
He placed the palms of his hands on either side of her head, looking down at her face and seeing the look of pleasure on her face when he started thrusting faster, harder, making her scream out his name.
He felt the warmth of her juices spilling onto his cock when she came, her orgasm making her body tremble uncontrollably.
He couldnât wait any longer for his own release. He was so hard. His balls aching, he began thrusting hard and fast, until he emptied inside her.
Panting hard, sweating like a pig, he lowered his entire body on top of her, kissing her neck softly. When his heart slowed down and he caught his breath, he rolled off her and onto his back.
He reached out and took hold of her hand, brought it up to his lips, and kissed it.
He turned his head to the side to look at her. âI know this was wrong, what we just did, but it felt so good.â
She looked at him, all teary-eyed. âDo you regret it?â
âOh, no, I donât. You just got out of the hospital, and maybe it was too soon,â he said, stroking her cheek tenderly.
âI wanted it. It was a perfect time. So, where do we go from here?â
âWe canât do this again, not until we find out who is trying to harm you. I cannot protect you properly if my mind is on other things than the job Iâve been hired to do.â
She sat up, pulling the sheet over her. âSo are you never going to touch me again, not even for a kiss?â
He got out of bed and went and gathered up his clothes and started putting them on. âIâm sorry. We have to end this now before it goes any further.â
He went back over to her and sat on the edge of the bed. âBelieve me, this is for the best.â
âWhen itâs over, then what?â she asked, fearing this was the end of them. Would he finish his job and leave to go on to the next one?
âI donât know,â he said, getting off the bed. âI better go back to my room, just in case your father comes to check on you.
âRoxie, we canât let your father or anyone else know what happened here tonight.â
âI know,â she replied, laying back down and closing her eyes. She waited until he left the room before she started crying.
Already she was missing him and wished that he would have at least spent the night with her. Wiping away her tears, she sat up. She thought he was being foolish.
They could still be together. It shouldnât affect his job. On the contrary, wouldnât he be more protective of someone he cared about, wanting more than ever to keep her safe?
~Well, Mr. Sinclair, Iâm not willing to give up on whatâs happening between us. Letâs just see how long you can keep from touching me again~, she said to herself as she lay back down and went to sleep.
Going back to his room, he couldnât stop thinking about what just happened. His mind told him not to do it, but his heart and especially his body told him to go for it.
He knew that it was wrong, but he did not regret it. Itâs just that the timing was all wrong. She was amazing, and heâd wanted it as much as she had.
But for now they would have to wait until the danger she was in ended, before they could figure out the next step in the relationship.
He did know though that once everything was finished, he would be seeing her on a personal level. Roxie was the only woman he had felt this way about.
The next few days were a bit strained between them, until one day when she asked him to take her shopping.
After buying knee-high black boots and a new purse, they were crossing the street when a tan-colored van came ripping around the corner.
He couldnât see the driver, because the windows were tinted and it was coming right toward them.
He only had a split second to react. With his arm going around her waist, he picked her up off her feet and stepped back out of the way.
With his free hand he reached inside his jacket and pulled out his gun. He still had a hold of her as he aimed the gun and took a shot into the back of the vehicle.
He cursed when it kept moving and was soon out of sight.
She was in total shock. It had all happened so quickly.
One minute she was walking beside him, the next minute she heard squealing tires and was being lifted up, her feet dangling, and then sheâd heard the shots being fired.
Her insides felt like they were being crushed by his arm. As scared as she was, she was also impressed with how he held onto her as if she weighed nothing.
âDexter, put me down.â
When she was placed on her feet, she stared at him. Her heart was beating so fast she could hardly breathe.
He lowered his gun after the two shots he fired, hearing people scream as they all ran in different directions like cattle in a stampede.
He was sure that by now the cops would show up and heâd be in trouble for shooting off a firearm in a public place.
For a moment he had forgotten he was still holding her like she was a rag doll, until he heard her telling him to put her down.
Once he lowered her down, he put away his gun and cupped her face in his hands. âAre you all right?â He knew if he hadnât acted fast, they would both be roadkill on the pavement.
He placed his forehead against hers, his arms around her. âThat was too close for comfort. I canât let anything happen to you, so from now on, we stay home. No more shopping or going to work.â
She pulled away from his arms, looking serious. âWait. I have to go to work.â
âRoxie, someone just tried to run you down in broad daylight. They are getting bolder. I canât risk you being out where they can strike again.
âYou will do what I tell you. Is that clear?â he asked, grabbing her arm and giving her a shake.
She was about to protest and give him a piece of her mind, when the police showed up. She waited while Dexter explained who he was and what went down.
She smirked when he was told he was being taken to the station for questioning. She watched as he picked up her packages and they all went down to the station.
When he was taken into one of the rooms, she wasnât allowed to go in with him. He made her promise to stay right where she was.
Knowing she would keep her promise, he followed the officer, looking back at her before disappearing through a door.
After half an hour of being questioned, telling them the van had no license plate, he was starting to become impatient. A sigh of relief escaped his lips when his buddy Chad strolled in.
Since he was with the FBI, he was able to stop them from pressing charges.
âThis man is an exâNavy SEAL and has served his country for four years. Now he works protecting people and would never use his weapons if he thought it would put innocent civilians in danger.
âNow, I suggest you release him and start looking for the person who is a threat to Miss Greene.â
When they told him he could go, he thanked Chad for coming.
âIs that Miss Greene that I saw sitting in the waiting room?â
âYeah, thatâs her.â
âMan, sheâs beautiful. I can see why you are so protective of her.â
âSheâs just a job.â
Chad looked at him and shook his head. âJust be careful. Falling for her could be a disaster for both of you.â
âI told you, sheâs just a job, nothing else.â
âSomething in the tone of your voice tells me sheâs more than that. Oh God, please tell me you havenât slept with her.â When he got no reply, he knew the answer.
âDexter, what the hell were you thinking?â
âI donât know. It just happened. Thereâs just something about her. Sheâs not what you would think a woman from a rich family to be like. Sheâs smart, beautiful, and so sweet.
âIt only happened once, and I told her it could never happen again.â
When they got to where she was waiting, he introduced them to each other.
Chad was smitten by her charm and beauty. He could see how Dexter was drawn to her. âItâs getting late, and I donât know about you two, but Iâm starving. Let me take you both to dinner, my treat.â
âOh, I would love that, but my bodyguard here thinks I should be locked up at home.â
âCome on, Dexter. Sheâll be safe with both of us,â Chad said, placing her arm through his. They started walking away, leaving Dexter to carry her packages.
âI know this nice French restaurant I think youâll love.â
âSounds lovely, and when we get there, you must tell me where you know Mr. Sinclair from. He really doesnât talk much about himself.
âMaybe you could also tell me how to get that stick out of his ass, so that heâll be able to smile once in a while.â
Chad laughed out loud, looking over his shoulder at Dexter. âI like this girl. Not only is she gorgeous, but also very funny.â
âYeah, sheâs a hoot all right,â Dexter mumbled under his breath.
During dinner, he sat back listening to the two of them talk as though they had known each other for years.
When she asked him to order another bottle of wine, he shook his head, seeing she was getting a little drunk. âI think youâve had enough.â
âOh, come on, Dexter. Iâm enjoying myself. Donât be a party-pooper,â she said, slurring her words.
Seeing how much fun she was having, and after what sheâd been through, he figured she deserved to have some fun. It was nice seeing her happy and smiling, so he gave in and ordered the bottle of wine.
With the food eaten and the wine consumed, he decided it was time to get her home. They paid the bill and said goodnight to Chad and headed back to her place.
She fell asleep on the way home, or perhaps she passed out. In any case, he ended up having to carry her inside.
He rolled his eyes when, just as he was taking her up the stairs, Claudia appeared, raising an eyebrow.
âOh my. What do we have here?â
âWe met a friend and had dinner, and she had too much to drink. Iâm just taking her to her room so she can sleep it off.â
âMr. Sinclair, be careful. If my husband finds you in bed with his precious angel, only God knows what heâll do to you.â
âMrs. Greene, get your mind out of the gutter. Iâve no intention of taking advantage of a woman who is passed out.
âBesides, Roxie is nothing like you. She doesnât sleep around. So if youâll excuse me, Iâll get her to bed now,â he said as he continued walking up the stairs.
He wanted to laugh out loud when he saw the look on her face when he made that comment. It was priceless.
Once he got her to her room, he laid her down on the bed. He took off her shoes and covered her with the blanket.
He didnât dare undress her, or he might have been tempted to lie down next to her. So giving her a kiss on her forehead, he turned off the lights and left the room.
