Let Him Rest

Learn to stifle the laughter
Learn to stop looking back
Learn to not search him up
Learn to step back and take a breath
You were all over his name for longer than you should've been
Keeping hope and carrying love for someone who rarely showed it
Look forward instead
The possibility of future love is endless
Pay attention not to the hurt
But to the girl who overcame it
Let him rest
Give him space to breathe
He could've tried harder if he ever wanted to love me
Don't look up
Don't look at the stars
Curse his name and his sister for being last straws
Learn to inhale and exhale
Don't think of what could've been
Don't look at old pictures and imagine a different situation
I know that you're bored
I know you say looking at her doesn't hurt
But for your own sake
Stop identifying every flaw even when there's none
So lay him down to rest
In a beautiful little suit
The blue like his old sweater
The redness of a blush from a girl hopelessly Enamored
Lay him in the coffin
Let him finally sleep
Tired from overworking
From lost nights of sleep
You'll never know if it hurt him
But you know it hurt you
So for your own sake and no one else's
Find happiness according to your own terms
You don't need a partner
You don't need to be in love
To have or to hold
To borrow or to grow old
Push away their expectations
Of what he thought was a meaning
Instead know you have yourself
And that's what makes life worth living
