Nothing Gold Can Stay

Like a toddler,
I grappled onto the phrase
"Nothing Gold Can Stay"
It was what I repeated for months
It was what I told myself reminded me of us
Of who we used to be
And who we used to love
Who used to hold my back
Who used to pick me up
Those days that I sank to grief
That made me feel the world was my enemy
That made me blame myself
Instead of factors outside my line of touch
The friends I lost
The fears I gained
And yet a simple phrase that helped to ease my pain
"Nothing Gold Can Stay"
