Future You
☆Faith☆ (A Series Of Poems)
I can't wait until you grow older
You learn to talk and walk
You can finally dance like you do right now
And tell your mom all that you want
Right now you only have 2 teeth
But your smile is still so bright
Your long eyelashes and your static-y hair
that remind me that your my sister's kid alright
And motherhood somewhat suits her
I can tell she loves you very much
Even where you're fussy she still hugs and comforts you
Like I know you will do to her one day when she's had enough
I see the way you like music
Even those cursed nursery rhymes and children laughing
Your legs bouncing on your uncle's lap
The faces I make and the laughs you give back
I can't wait to meet future you
I wonder if you'll end up like your mom
Skipping school to be with the cool kids
And buying the squad pizza when the prices drop
I wonder if you'll end up like me
A child who once bounced wall to wall
I remember hiding under my sister's bed until she threatened to call the cops
I wonder if you'll end up like me
Thinking vampires are real
That your crush is so pale just because they'll disintegrate if they step foot in the warmth of the kickball field
I wonder if you'll end up like me
Friends you thought that you'd die for
Love so real you feel invincible
even if other kids tell you that that isn't how you should feel
I wonder if you'll be creative
Maybe write your own songs
Create dance moves and laugh and cry 'till you fall
Someone catching you because you know you're a star
And you're not even one yet
But I can tell you're going to be a riot
Maybe a headache or two for your parents
But I'll be your aunt that applauds it
And you're going to grow up so loved that you'll always have someone to lean on
I hope you grow up to trust me and in return I can tell you my secrets
The wisdom I've gained as I've grown up and funny stories of when you were young
Future you is gonna be all that you can dream of
I promise you that by the time you turn one
