âWhy?â
âAs you can see, Iâm leaving here. Please cooperate until I get out safely. Iâm sorry, I got you involved in this.â
Leaving the battlefield required permission from the superiors.
Yernia was fortunate if Habin asked her to shut up so that he could leave but he was actually asking for her cooperation in order to keep out of someoneâs sight.
What would he do if Cassian and the rest of the soldiers saw him escape?
Espers leaving the military without permission were bound to get punished.
Soldiers without special abilities in the Empireâs Militia did it.
However, Habin was a guide who was about to leave the army now that there were no Espers in sight.
âUh-huh. I see. Habin, can you get rid of that knife?â
Yernia couldnât care less what he was up to.
She just wanted to stay away from the blade in his hand.
Her mind would usually spin out of control every time she felt threatened.
If Habin left the military just like this, his Esper could die.
Still, she didnât feel like stopping Habin from doing whatever he wanted, not when he was currently pointing the knife at her.
Yernia wanted Cassian with her right now.
âIâm sorry, but I canât. I would be in trouble if your husband tried to kill me.â
âAre you threatening me?â
âIâm sorry.â
Habin should have known that running away at night was a bad idea.
Soldiers would chase after them until he got caught.
Furthermore, he would have to be put on trial if they found out he had threatened her.
Yernia was Cilliardâs beloved daughter and the Lecardo familyâs lady of the house.
âPlease. Just please help me get out.â
Why should she do that when he didnât even give her the time to dress properly as he waved a knife in front of her nose?
Having to deal with this current situation alone, she left the barracks as Habin told her to and the man followed her there.
Yernia examined their surroundings.
Who the hell could go out like this without any consequences?
Nobody could go in and out of this place freely.
It would be wise to ask a soldier controlling the access to tell him how.
âPlease look forward.â
When she felt someone approaching them, Yernia was horrified.
Obviously, no one was there.
Suddenly, a blank face emerged from the darkness.
âWhere are you going?â
âWho are you?â
The man standing in front of her was all in black except for his face.
âCaptain Lewardâs Knight.â
She had no idea who that captain was but it must be Harbinâs Esper given how he flinched at the mention of her name.
âDrink. Drink. Drink. Drink. Drink. Drink.â
Harbinâs Esper had defeated the monster.
Even if it was truly Captain Lewardâs knight, the news of her being Harbinâs hostage could not have spread that fast.
Yernia thought shortly.
Captain Lewardâs knight could either be Habinâs enemy or ally.
Habin pushed his knife towards him, urging the Knight to leave alone.
He was her real enemy if he kept threatening her like this.
Why was he doing this to her of all people?
The moment Yernia tried to open her mouth to speak, her body was dragged.
A firm arm was locked around her neck and Yernia gasped.
âIf you come close, Mrs. Ricardo dies.â
Habin had taken her hostage, pointing the knife at her rib.
Her face paled and her chin trembled in fear.
The barracks was a short distance away and if she shouted for help, someone might hear her.
Yernia tried to call her knight.
âDonât you dare shout.â Ha-bin whispered in Yerniaâs ear.
âIââWhy are you doing this to me? What did I do? What did I do wrong?â
âI have no regrets about doing this. Iâm leaving this place and my Esper, Captain Leward, in secret. Just think of yourself as unfortunate.â
It really was the truth.
Yernia was the unluckiest person in the world.
She wouldnât have gone anywhere if she knew Habin was ignorant and dangerous enough to do this.
She missed Cassian so much that tears started streaming down her face.
Despite that, Â Habin continued making threats.
âIâ Please leave me behind! Iâm not going with you! UhâI donât want to go.â
Habin hugged Yernia so that she couldnât get away from him.
She tried throwing a fit but her voice was too small.
Miraculously, the curtains at the barracks were lifted.
Yernia and the Knightâs gazes met when he stared at her.
The knightâs eyes widened in shock, grasping the situation at once.
âMy Lady!â
âUgh!â
Yernia burst into tears as the Knight walked towards her and he looked sober at the moment.
Captain Lewardâs Knight also came their way.
Yernia was a little relieved but the feeling shattered five seconds later.
âIf one of you comes closer, Iâll kill Mrs. Ricardo.â
Yernia held her breath as the threatening blade at her side was raised to the side of her neck.
As the Knights distracted Habin, Yernia slowly raised her feet to kick him in the shins.
