âDonât laugh, or the makeup might clump up.â
âMiya, do you remember that time when you turned me into Dracula when I was eight?â
âI remember. You were cute back then.â
âThatâs right. I was kind of cute.â
Miya wiped her eyes out of hate and finished Yerniaâs make-up, making her look ill.
Yerniaâs eyes opened when she looked in the mirror.
âYou look sick.â
She almost fell for it herself.
âOkay. I think this is enough for Cassian to believe.â
Of course, this makeup would only mean something if Cassian came running to her house after hearing she was sick.
Yernia had written a letter, sent it to the Duke of Lecardo, and went to bed.
Will Cassian come to her?
After lying down for a long time, she became bored, so she wanted to see some falling petals outside.
Yernia had never gotten sick that much.
She had been sick a few times, but Cassian didnât visit her then.
âThatâs right. Thatâs why I sent him a letter to visit me.â
When she was young, Yernia wrote and sent him a letter while sweating and grinding her teeth.
Cassian didnât come until the end, and she felt betrayed.
If Cassian didnât come again this time, Yernia thought of using a different tomorrow.
She was too buried in her deep sleep as the afternoon sun shone warmly.
Maybe it was because of her stomachache earlier or the change in the weather, Yerniaâs eyes fell shut, and all the tension in her body loosened.
Then, Yernia felt her consciousness shift away from reality.
A warm hand rested on top of her forehead, and the personâs breath seemed a little short.
Lastly, his scent was familiar.
âCassian!â
Yernia jumped to her feet, shaking off the hand that kept her bound to the bed.
âYes, itâs me.â
Cassian stared at Yernia as he slowly withdrew his hand from her skin.
Now, she was feeling dizzy, and she was the one who had caused it.
Yernia closed her eyes for a while and opened them.
âIâm sick, Cassian.â
âIâm here now. Where does it hurt?â
âOh, my.â
Yena fell back down to the bed as soon as she woke up.
She raised the blanket to the tip of her nose just in case he might notice that she wasnât hurt at all.
âI guess youâre sick because you didnât meet me.â
ââ¦â¦.â
âI always go outside even in spring, but I didnât get sick yet. Perhaps, you are simply tired?â
Cassian took heavy breaths as if he had been running to get there.
He glanced at the ceiling before he lowered his head.
When his breathing returned to normal, his gaze swept through Yerniaâs face.
*COUGH*
Yernia read the atmosphere and covered her mouth with her hands to cough loud.
âYou got sick because of me.â
âYes.â
âBecause you miss me.â
âWellââ
Did he even understand why she was doing this?
Why was he asking her so many questions?
Yerniaâs heartbeat was tense, and her sweaty hands clutched her blanket all the more.
It was like watching a horror movie.
ââ¦â¦.â
Cassianâs hand moved to touch Yerniaâs forehead, and it slid down her cheeks, ears, and neck.
Yerniaâs body trembled with her hands as if her body temperature was a little too low.
âOh, itâs cold.â
Cassianâs body temperature felt colder compared to ordinary people, and it made her shiver.
Yernia liked Cassianâs hands like that but only during summer.
His hands can be Yerniaâs exclusive ice pack.
âThatâs right.â
âWhat?â He muttered, and she stared at him in question, pretending not to know.
Her saliva dried up.
Did she get caught?
Should she have avoided the hand?
Yernia didnât avoid it because he might find it suspicious.
âYou said you got sick because you missed me. You want to see me that much, so we need to get married quickly.â
âHuh?â
âYou might become ill if you stay in the same bed every day from  missing me.â
Uh⦠This isnât it.
âI didnât know that was how you felt.â
Yerniaâs pupils shook.
Cassian stared into the depths of her green eyes as if he could see right through them.
Suddenly, Yernia had a hunch.
He got it.
âKashan.â
âDonât call me that. I canât get angry if you are acting cute.â
âYou are teasing me again. Again.â
Yena straightened her spine as she gazed at him with tired eyes.
Only then does Cassianâs hand fall off.
âBut donât I look sick?â
The make-up Miya had applied on her was still there, but isnât he noticing it too quickly?
Yernia hoped he was deceived even just a little.
The corners of Cassianâs mouth curled upwards.
âI donât know if youâre sick, but you certainly look bored.â
âWhat a bummer.â
âBut I almost fell for it.â He breathed as she swept over her tangled hair to the side.
She could see a familiar letter in that same hand.
It was the letter Yernia sent him.
âItâs true that I ran all the way here like a madman after reading your letter.â
