âI should fire those two.â Cassian whisper-shouted.
Yernia couldnât even look her husband in the eye.
She avoided his gaze and closed her eyes.
âSuch dirty beasts!â His tone was insulting that Yernia wanted to refute him, saying,âIsnât it the same for you?â
The Lecardo servants were all tangled up in each otherâs bodies but Cassian wasnât.
So, why was he also acting like a wild beast too?
âCassian, didnât you justââ
âNo. No way. You⦠You thought wrong.â
âWouldnât you become hard when you touch a girl or something?â
Yernia was told that it happens to brutish and forceful men with high sex drive.
Nevertheless, she regretted it as soon as she asked.
Why would she ask Cassian in the first place if it wasnât true?
âYou see me as a brute.â
âI think itâs natural that youâd be like that.â
âI guess I got hard in front of my childhood friend because it was natural.â
The current situation made her understand what it meant at once.
Yernia wanted Cassian to shut up.
âDonât say that.â
He must have meant she was too close, but it sounded strange to hear it herself.
Embarrassed, Cassian decided to change the subject.
He took Yerniaâs hand and held it tightly.
âDonât get too close with that opera singer.â
That statement was out of the blue.
âWhat about Jennan?â
âHeâs even worse than I think.â
âYou think he is a bad person. Why do you hate Jennan so much?â
Cassian wasnât happy with Jennanâs presence at all.
He  was so angry when they first met because a girl had stood him up, but his constant criticism made her wonder.
âI donât like him.â
âYou donât know him yet. Donât jump to conclusions.â
Ha!
Suddenly, Cassian laughed out loud.
Yernia had to look over her shoulder to make her pounding heart feel at ease.
Fortunately, the couple were so focused on each other that they didnât hear her speak.
âHow much do you know about him?â
ââ¦â¦.â
âI thought that the opera singer was your lover.â
Cassian hadnât lied because that was what he had seen from his and her wifeâs interactions.
The ridiculous assumption seemed to have embarrassed her.
âWhy would you say that, Cassian?â
It was none of her business if it was true or not.
She wasnât even curious about it.
âIf you hang out with him, youâll be treated the same way. Like trash. Youâll lose your reputation if you stay with him.â
He sounded reasonable when he told her to stay away from him.
Still, it made her a little upset.
She and Jennan werenât even close.
They just shared a meal, met him once so  that she could apologize, and met him twice by chance.
They hadnât met ever since.
âIâm also worried about other things aside from your reputation.â
âWhat is it?â
âWhy? Do you think heâd let an naive little girl like you go?â
What did that mean?
âThat bastard had a black heart.â
âStop it. Thatâs enough.â
Yernia was aware that Cassian was merely concerned.
That was why he was being harsh on Jennan.
Why would Cassian think she was a naive little girl as well?
âIâll pretend I didnât hear you.â
Nevertheless, Yernia did not want to judge othersâ personality based on rumors.
However, she understood that Cassian was only worried about scandals, so she was determined not to go and meet Jennan privately in the future.
Done.
Yernia didnât want to hear one-sided insults about someone who was sincerely rooting for her.
But Cassian seemed different.
He looked at Yernia in frustration as frown lines marred her forehead.

As time went by, Cassian got better and better.
Yernia was relieved that his fever had disappeared entirely.
Yet, unlike her, Cassian seemed upset.
âYou wonât worry about me anymore.â
âGrow up, Cassian.â
Yena stuck her tongue out and ate the sandwich.
Cassian had never been this sick.
She wondered if he was sad that no family member was with him when he got sick, but he was better than she thought.
He seemed to want her attention rather than the Duke of Lecardo, his only family member.
âIâm going to eat it after putting it all on.â
Cassian laughed low and wiped the sauce from her mouth with a finger, causing her mind to shut down.
Whatâs wrong with him?
She was pretending to be alright with it, but Yernia was curious about his intention.
No wonder he looked dissatisfied when heâs all better.
Cassian had asked her multiple times if she was worried about him and he even stole the sauce at the corners of her mouth despite hating dirty things the most.
Why did he do it?
Why?
âSince you took care of me, shall we go on a date today?â
âFate?â
Cassian had changed some time ago.
