Chapter 180
One Night Surprise Novel
Chapter 180 Who the F*ck Is Jealous Josh kept guard outside the door of the lounge as he glanced at his watch. The two of them had been inside for 15 minutes now.
Intentionally or not, Mikayla came by to check on them twice. He stopped her from entering the lounge during both attempts. The way things are going, they are going to reconcile, right? While he was looking forward to it, the door opened behind him and Courtney walked out.
âMiss Hunter.â
âYou donât need to address me so politely. Iâm no longer the manager of the hotel.â Courtney glanced at Josh; her expression was cold and distant.
Josh was stunned by her reply. Then, Alexander came out too. His expression was as black as the soot at the bottom of a pot.
Upon seeing that, Josh felt his heart sinking as he groaned in his heart. This is no reconciliation! Itâs clear that things between them are worse now! They had a falling out!
The banquet was in full swing, and the Lewis Family was walking around with glasses of champagne, drinking a toast to each guest.
After Courtney came out from the lounge, she joined Cameron and Shay. Casey joined them shortly thereafter. Standing together in a group, he occasionally introduced them to the guests at the venue.
âSince when was Casey so close to those people?â Mikayla asked her mother puzzledly.
Mrs. Lewis was over 60 years old now. Having taken good care of herself, she retained her gorgeous looks. She glanced at the group in the distance upon hearing those words, and her eyes lit up. âOh? Thatâs true. Why does Cece seem so close to those people? Who is that girl? Is she married?â
She was Taiwanese. Even after decades, she couldnât change the way she spoke. Moreover, she had a strange way of addressing her family membersâshe called her eldest son âCeceâ, her second son âArtieâ, and Mikayla âLalaâ. Therefore, her three children were quite exasperated with her because of that.
âWhich one are you asking about?â Mikayla hesitated as she looked from afar. âThere are two.â
âThat one; the girl in the black evening dress. I saw her talking to Cece a lot. Cece normally doesnât talk to girls much. Do you think thatâs his girlfriend?â
Mrs. Lewis was referring to Courtney. In response, Mikayla suddenly felt happy. âSheâs not married. Her name is Courtney Hunter, and she works at Alexâs company. Mommy, do you like her?â
âShe looks good, but I donât know if she can take good care of the family. As you know, your sister-in-law didnât care much for family and divorced just because she wanted to.â
âSheâs good at taking care of the family. She has a daughter, which she raised very well.â
âShe has a daughter?â Mrs. Lewis looked surprised. âShe looks so young! I canât believe she already has a daughter!â
Thatâs right. I think she divorced a long time ago. She has always been a single mom. It must not have been easy. But, for a family like ours... it doesnât seem suitable for Casey to marry a woman who is divorced and has children from her previous marriage.â
Mikayla was testing her motherâs reaction. As expected, her mother wasnât bothered by that at all. Mrs. Lewis waved her hand dismissively; her gaze was as pure and clear as a young girlâs. âWhy does that matter? As long as Cece likes her, whatâs wrong if she has a child? Besides, Cece has a child too. Itâs not a bad idea; they can play together. Iâm going to go over and greet them, Lala.â
âHey, Mommyââ Mikayla pretended to stop her mother but failed. Snickering slightly, she followed behind Mrs. Lewis. If Mommy can help me matchmake Courtney with Casey, wonât that help to solve a huge problem for me?
Courtney and Cameron were sitting on a sofa hidden in a corner as Courtney complained about the question Alexander asked her earlier. Cameron immediately became furiousâso much so that Courtney had to grab hold of her to prevent her from kicking up a fuss on the spot.
âWhat kind of stupid question is that?! Thatâs his flesh and blood! F*cking Idiot!â
âForget it. Itâs not like he knows anyway.â Courtney had sorted out her thoughts. Still, she was a little depressed. She raised her head and finished her glass of wine. âHe can think whatever he wants.â
âHe will regret this next time.â
Casey was sitting opposite her. After finishing her wine, she glanced at him and bluntly informed him that she was planning to leave. Upon hearing that, Shay stood up immediately. âIâll go with you.â
âIâll see you off.â Casey stood up too.
In response, Courtney and Cameron glanced at each other and exchanged an ambiguous look. Before the four of them got to the door, they were stopped by a sweet female voice. They looked back and saw Mrs. Lewis chasing after them while holding the corner of her sea-blue dress. âWait a minute! Casey, are these your friends? You havenât introduced them to me yet! Why are you leaving so soon?â
Casey looked at his mother and said, âThey have something up, so Iâm seeing them off.â
Mrs. Lewisâ gaze landed on Courtney. âYes, you should send them back. Itâs not safe for a girl to be out alone at night. You should send her back home, and you donât need to rush back.â
Those words sounded strange to Courtney. While she was pondering over it, Mrs. Lewis stepped forward and studied her.
âMikayla told me that you work for Alexanderâs company. Whatâs your name?â
Stunned, she hesitated slightly before answering, âNice to meet you, Mrs. Lewis. My name is Courtney Hunter. I apologize for not greeting you earlier. You seemed busy.â
âDonât worry about it.â Mrs. Lewis smiled warmly. âItâs the first time Cece brought his girlfriend over.â
âGirlfriend?â Courtney hurriedly explained, âItâs a misunderstanding, Mrs. Lewis. Iâm not Mr. Lewisâ girlfriend.â
Mrs. Lewis winked at her with an ambiguous look. âDonât worry about it; I understand. You can take your time. Cece acts cold and distant, but he is very kind to others. He doesnât even let his assistant do any difficult or tiring tasks.â
Speaking of Caseyâs assistant, that man had left a strong impression on Courtney. Thatâs true; I have not seen that arrogant, little assistant today. As for whether or not Cassey did not let his male assistant do any difficult tasks, Courtney did not know. After all, there were men in this world that were no different from women to Casey. It was simply a matter of cherishing what they loved.
Mrs. Lewis saw them off to the door. Moreover, she enthusiastically invited Courtney over to their house next time. Her warm attitude left Courtney feeling both flattered and flusteredâso much so that she was still in a daze when she got into the car.
âYour mother seems to have misunderstood us.â
âItâs not a misunderstanding.â Casey crossed his arms and looked at her expressionlessly. âItâs obvious that sheâs trying to matchmake us.â
Shay immediately jumped violently, and his head hit the roof of the car. Even though it hurt so badly that tears flooded his eyes, he turned and roared at Casey, âMake your mother give up on that as soon as possible. Sis would never be interested in a homosexual like you!â
Casey looked at Shay calmly. âAre you jealous?â
âWho the f*ck is jealous?!â Utterly livid, Shay swore violently. âHow can you be so f*cking shameless?!â
It was Courtneyâs first time listening to such foul language coming from Shay since he was usually such a well-mannered boy. It shattered her previous impression of himâso much so that she had trouble accepting it for a moment. Coupled with the shock and agitation she experienced during the banquet, she felt a dull pain in her chest.
âCourtney, are you alright?â Cameron asked worriedly.
âIâm fine.â Courtney waved Cameron away. âIâll be fine after some rest.â
At that moment, Casey stopped quarreling with Shay. He studied Courtney for a moment before asking, âIf you are resigning from the Sunhill Hotel, why donât you consider working for my company instead?â
Those words left Courtney reeling in shock, and she couldnât quite believe what she just heard.
