Chapter 194
One Night Surprise Novel
Chapter 194 Iâm Helping Him Not long after Jeremy went upstairs, Susan came down.
Sitting on the sofa, Anna was initially flipping through a magazine. The moment she heard the sound, she got up immediately.
âMom.â
âYou scared me,â Susan gasped.
Seeing that there was nothing in her motherâs hand, Annaâs heart sank.
In the study, Jeremy handed the amended will for Lucian to be revised. He then said, âIf thereâs no problem with the will, we only need the beneficiary to sign it.â
âOkay. Thereâs nothing wrong.â
âThen, Iâll bring it downstairs for Miss Hunter to sign.â
âNo.â Lucian glanced at the clay pot on the side. âAsk her to sign it this weekend.â
âOkay.â
After Jeremy left, Lucian picked up the small bowl beside him. The chicken soup was greasy. There was Codonopsis, black chicken, and probably something else inside too. Pulling his mouth into a tight line, he snorted and drank the whole thing.
Ever since Courtney left, Jordan had been living with Scott, refusing to return to Alexanderâs place. Alexander worried about his son constantly, yet he didnât want to hear his grandfather asking him about Courtney. He was very agitated.
He couldnât hide their break-up from his grandpa. When Courtneyâs resignation letter took effect, news came from the company.
Soon, Scott learned that Courtney had resigned and also heard about the rumors circulating within the company.
âDonât you remember how that girl from the Lewis Family treated you back then? How can you break up with Courtney for that girl? Sheâs such a good woman. You must be mad.â Slamming the table, Scott looked distressed. âNo wonder Jordan has been so listless for the past month. You guys are keeping it from me, right?â
Alexander did not say a word. When his grandpa finally finished scolding him, he slowly began, âThis is my own business. You donât have a say in this.â
âWhy canât I say something?â Scott was infuriated. âYouâre my grandson. The only child of the Duncan Family. To mess around with women is to disgrace our familyâs name.â
âWhat now? Are you trying to threaten me with the company like how you did back then?â Alexander pretended like he was impenetrable. He didnât intend to irritate his grandpa, but he just didnât know how to deal with the relationship between Courtney and him. He had been worried for a long time.
âThreaten you?â Scott snorted, âYou should be grateful.â
Upon hearing that, Alexander was speechless.
âThere have been a lot of problems with the seafood company in Lisboa recently. Many people have complained about the substandard seafood. Go and take a look. See whatâs going on there.â
âNo way,â exclaimed Harry from the side before Alexander could say something. âThe climate in Lisboa is hot and humid.
Besides, itâs so far away too. Now that itâs so hot, oneâs skin would even crack from a stroll by the sea. How can you let Young Master Alexander go? You should just find a reliable manager to go instead; otherwise, I can go too.â
âWhoâs the boss here?â Scott gave him a dissatisfied look.
âFine.â Without saying anything, Alexander got up from his seat and grabbed his coat. âIâll leave tomorrow morning.â
âYoung Master...â Harry felt helpless. Since young, Alexander was stubborn and he never gave in. Yet, Scott was even more uncompromising. It seemed like Alexander was determined to go on this trip.
âOld Master, why are you torturing Young Master Alexander like that?â He sighed. âHeâs already in his thirties. He knows what heâs doing. Why are you always so strict on him?â
âIâm helping him. You donât understand.â With a triumphant smile in his eyes, Scott waved at the bedroom. âJordan, come. Come here.â
Harry looked at the bedroom curiously. He didnât know when the Little Master had hidden in Scottâs bedroom.
Running to his great-grandpa, Jordan lifted his head and looked at him. His big eyes were overwhelmed by joy.
âYou heard what happened, right? I promised that I will let your dad and mom meet each other. Iâve done that, right?â
Jordan nodded solemnly. With difficulty, he managed to utter, âUh-huh.â
Scott was very pleased. After Courtney left, Jordan wilted like a piece of limp lettuce within a few days. He even refused to eat more. It was only until he called Tina and asked her to persuade Jordan through the phone that he finally cheered up a little.
Since then, he started to say something too. Although it was usually some simple words, it was undoubtedly the greatest joy for Scott who hadnât heard his great-grandson speak for several years.
Caressing the crown of his head, Scott said gently, âSince Iâve done what I promised, you should eat too, right?â
âUh.â Jordan nodded again.
From the side, Harry instantly understood the situation. Quickly, he asked the housemaid to inform the kitchen to prepare some dishes for the kid.
As Jordan gobbled up his meal, everyone breathed a great sigh of relief.
âOld Master, what did you promise the Little Master?â asked Harry in a low voice.
Looking up from his newspaper, Scott frowned at the question. âOf course, it was to help my useless grandson get his fiancée back. What else could it be?â
In the meantime, in a high-rise apartment in the city center, Courtney had just finished packing her luggage. She then set her luggage next to the entrance.
âTina, tomorrow Iâll send you to Aunt Cameronâs place. Iâll come back as soon as possible, okay?â
Tinaâs voice rose from the sofa and she sounded quite excited. âYeah. Iâm totally fine. You can even stay two more days if you want.â
âStay two more days? Iâm not there for vacation.â Clapping her hands, she ushered Tina. âCome on. Letâs take a shower and go to bed early. We have to get up early tomorrow.â
Courtneyâs apparel company was still in the middle of a renovation. Although she had not started recruiting staff officially, she had to be prepared in advance.
Recently, Cameron had introduced her to a senior whom she knew when she studied design at St. York University. After working for a few years, he found the business world incompatible with design, so he quit his job and went back to his hometown to live like a native. He lived in Lisboa and Courtney heard that he didnât even have a phone. She had to call the city and wait for someone to inform him before he could walk five kilometers into the city.
âDonât worry. Iâve contacted him. You only need to get to the city and ask the owner of the telephone booth to take you to him.â
Before she left, Cameron reminded her again, âRemember, he has a weird temperament and heâs a drama queen. Donât get angry with him.â
âWhich one of you in this industry isnât weird? Some of you even have depression!â Pulling open the car door, Courtney said, âOkay. Just go back. Itâs still early. Go back to sleep with Tina; Iâm leaving.â
âTake care.â
From the rear-view mirror, Courtney could see that Cameron was waving at her like a tube man. Laughing helplessly, she silently cursed, âCrazy woman.â Then, she sped up her car to drive toward Lisboa.
