Chapter 37
Lunar Whispers
"Please mum," Jacob pleaded and gave her his best puppy dog eyes which Hunter totally fell for. He knew that if Jacob ever did that to him then he'd have to say yes, no matter what.
"Absolutely not. You can't just go for a few days while your grandparents visit. And also, I don't want you staying at Hunter's house, you're only seventeen."
"So?" Jacob crossed his arms. "They don't want me here."
"Of course they do, they-"
"They don't," He sighed quietly. "You just choose not to see it because they are your parents."
"Grace," Scott rested his hands on his wife's shoulders. "All they have done for the past hour is talk about William. Every time we mention Jacob's name they frown and change the subject. I think he should stay with Hunter until they leave. I'm more than sure he'll have a better time there."
"I just... I don't want you boys taking your relationship further-"
"Don't worry about that," Hunter quickly added before Jacob's mind melted with awkwardness. "Jacob's not ready for that. He has only just started getting used to kissing me-"
"Shut up." Jacob's voice echoed in his head, making him shut his mouth. He could feel his deep embarrassment.
"Are you saying that you're ready for it?" Grace attacked him with a frown.
"No... I-"
"Have you had se-"
"Yes."
Now it was Hunter's turn to blush. He could also feel Jacob's eyes on him. His emotions and expression didn't change. He kind of knew because Hunter was a lot more experienced than him and he seemed to know what he was doing.
"With a guy?"
"No, with a girl," Hunter did feel a little awkward. He was saying this to his mate's parents.
"But you're-"
"I know, I'm gay," Hunter glanced at Jacob who was intensely chewing on his bottom lip and slowly wringing his hands. "I guess that experience made me realise it." Not all of that was a lie. Hunter's first time wasn't the best and he wished he waited until he had his mate. But he was drunk and it was a silly mistake.
"How do I know that you're not going to try anything with our son?" Grace was firm and starting to annoy Hunter.
"Because I'm not like that," He frowned. "I would never even think about putting him in that kind of situation."
"Mum, you're being a bit unfair," Jacob spoke quietly. "It's my choice with what I do in this relationship. I'm not ready to take it further but so what if I was? It's my body, not yours."
Grace didn't really have anything to say after that. Her son was right, it is his choice and she doesn't really have the power to stop him.
Hunter was enjoying Jacob's bold attitude.
"So... can I stay at his?" He asked quietly, returning back to his shy state.
Grace and Scott looked at each other, deciding on the answer.
"Fine," She sighed with a slight eye roll. "But if I call, you better answer your phone. And don't even think about skipping college."
Jacob's eyes lit up like a Christmas tree.
"Thank you," He beamed. Hunter has never seen him smile with a lot of happiness before and it was only then that he could feel his excitement about sleeping over.
"I can drop you off if you like?" Scott suggested and checked his watch. It was half seven in the evening.
"If that's okay?" Hunter asked.
"Sure it's not a problem. Just make sure Jacob packs everything, you know what he's like."
"I will," He chuckled before they turned and left the bedroom. William was downstairs and trapped in a conversation with his grandparents.
Hunter then collapsed onto his mate's bed and let out a big sigh of relief.
"That was such an awkward conversation."
Jacob nodded and started shoving things into a bag.
"My mum is so overprotective."
"I know," Hunter sat up and watched him. "But that's my job."
Jacob stopped and stared at him.
"Is it?" He questioned with a strong twinkle in his eye.
Hunter tilted his head with a dashing smile.
"Are you flirting back at me, Jacob Jones?" His stare was always intense but it sent shivers down his mate's spine when he looked at him like that.
"I um," Jacob's face started to heat up. He was feeling confident, but not that confident. "I don't know how to flirt."
Hunter collapsed his back against his bed again and rested a hand on his chest.
"My heart can't take it," He chuckled. "You're just so innocent, I love it."
* * * * *
When Scott pulled up outside Hunter's home, he had a good look around. He was surprised that it was in the middle of nowhere and at the bottom of a huge field, leading onto a big forest.
The home itself was cute and reminded him of a little log cabin. However, it was bigger to accommodate three people.
"Do you mind if I come in for a minute or two so I can check with your parents that this is okay?" He asked and turned to the boys who were unbuckling their seat belts.
"That's fine, they'd love to say hi," Hunter smiled and climbed out after Jacob. The cool breeze hit him and all he wanted to do was run for hours and hours. He hasn't done that for a good few days and he really needed a moment to escape and be in his wolf form for a while.
"You can go for a run when my dad leaves," Jacob spoke in his head. "I don't mind. I can do some college work in your room."
"I'll think about it." Hunter would still rather spend time with his mate.
When they entered the house, he looked up to see his mum resting against his dad but this caused him to freeze.
His dad was in his wolf form.
Jacob stopped too with instant worry. He watched his dad's face when he entered and saw the great white wolf sprawled on the floor in front of the fireplace.
His eyebrows raised and his mouth hung slightly open. However, he hasn't seen any wolves in person before and just thought it was a very, very large dog.
"I... that is the biggest dog I have ever seen."
Margo stood up before whispering for her husband to stay there. If he stood up, his size would really look unnatural.
"Scott hello, my son didn't tell me you were coming over," Margo glanced at Hunter with eyes that leaked; 'Are you an idiot?' She walked over with a big smile, trying to distract him. "That's not our dog, we're looking after it for a few nights for a friend."
"Yeah I didn't recall you mentioning having any pets," Scott couldn't take his eyes off it. "But um... what am I here for? Oh right, I was just checking if it's definitely okay for Jacob to stay for a night or two? I'm not sure if Hunter has explained this or not but his grandparents are visiting and they are quite... homophobic."
Margo looked at him with sympathy in her eyes.
"Oh, you poor thing. It's completely fine for him to stay here for as long as he wants," She beamed.
Scott returned the smile but his eyes kept wandering to the huge dog laying on the rug. It was unnaturally large and to him, it was beginning to look more like a wolf.
Also, where was Anthony?
"Thank you, Margo," He said before giving his son's shoulder a squeeze. "If you need anything, just drop me a text okay?"
Jacob nodded. He then stepped forwards and hugged him. Scott was surprised but he didn't hesitate to hug back.
"Thank you," He whispered in his dad's ear. "For being so supportive."
Scott hugged him a little tighter.
"I love you, Jay. I'll always be here for you."
"I love you too."
Scott pulled back and examined his face with a proud smile.
"Right, I should get going, see you in a few days," He then turned and walked out of their home. He didn't think that he would be letting Jacob stay at his boyfriend's house this time a few months ago. He was in a really bad place with no friends and only family to fall back on.
Now, everything was changing for him and guiding him in the right direction.
But when he was gone, Margo marched over to her son and smacked him on the back of the head as Anthony changed into his human form.
"Why didn't you warn us he was coming?" She hissed.
Hunter frowned and crossed his arms.
"I didn't think he'd come in, sorry."
"You know now for next time, son," Anthony sighed. "Jacob, if he starts to mention anything about wolves, please let us know."
"Um, I will," He spoke quietly.
"Good," Anthony pulled on a t-shirt but studied Jacob for a little longer. He and his wife had been discussing what happened today. They had no idea who Jacob really was and it irritated him. "Also Hunter, you'll be glad to know that the rival pack are no longer a pack. We set a law down that each individual member can never be in a pack with each other again, they have to find new people."
Hunter's whole body seemed to relax.
"Thanks, dad. I'm so glad."
"If I ever see any of them again," He muttered while Margo rubbed his shoulders and asked if he would like a drink.
Hunter then took hold of Jacob's hand but quickly pulled it back with a frown.
"Ow, you gave me an electric shock," He chuckled.
"Oh, sorry," Jacob rubbed his fingers but there was a faint static-like noise building up in his head. It was the terrible ringing of silence and he wasn't sure why it was there.
"Let's try that again," Hunter grinned and took his hand. This time, the electric shock was much stronger and caused a spark to ignite when Hunter quickly jumped back.
His parents had seen that and grew very concerned.
"Hunter," Jacob whispered with worry. The high pitched noise was growing, strong and stronger in Jacob's head. He was starting to feel the energy of everything around him.
Margo then saw it. That strange feeling that had been niggling in the back of her mind about Jacob, showed itself.
His aura flickered at the edge which was something very unusual. Hunter's was like a bubble which is how everyone's aura should be. It looks calm and surrounds the body but Jacob's was sparking out like a surge of electricity and it wasn't normal.
Hunter watched him with deep eyes and lifted his hand out one last time.
"Let's see if that happens again, it was weird," He said with a hearty smile, trying to keep his mate from freaking out. Jacob felt very strange but his intrigued mind allowed him to lift his hand too.
When their fingertips connected, a huge lightning bolt surged out from Jacob's hand and straight up Hunter's arms, causing him to fly backwards and into the table.
His parents gasped and ran over to help him.
"I'm fine," Hunter coughed and slowly climbed to his feet when Jacob's hands began to shake.
"I-I'm so sorry," Jacob spoke with a wavering voice and guilty eyes.
Everyone looked at him with wonder and worry, not knowing what just occurred.
"Something is happening to him," Margo watched his aura grow stronger and more aggressive. It was flickering violently and growing deeper with colour.
Suddenly, the static noise in Jacob's head overtook everything else. It was like someone just turned the volume up to its maximum. He covered his ears and collapsed to the ground in pain. Hunter quickly ran over but he didn't want to touch him out of fear of getting electrocuted again.
Jacob cried out, it felt like his head was going to explode. Hunter turned back to his parents with panic.
"What do we do? He's hurting so much!"
"I don't know," Anthony has never heard of anything happening like this before. "I don't understand-"
Jacob curled up into a ball when his bones started to ache, he was not only mentally changing, he was physically changing too.
Hunter could see the slight growth in his muscles as the hoody he was wearing starting fitting him better. His jeans grew tighter and slightly too short. Jacob's body shook with pure energy, he couldn't stand it.
Hunter shuffled back. There was no explanation for this and it looked very strange through his eyes.
Jacob felt different, he was beginning to feel stronger and much more powerful as the static ringing in his head slowly deteriorated.
Margo watched his aura settle down and his body stop shaking. Jacob took deep breaths before slowly lifting his head. Hunter hesitated but gradually touched him. He stopped tensing when there was no weird spark of electricity. His eyes examined his mate with astonishment.
He looked bigger. He was now maybe slightly more muscular than him and it was very noticeable. Hunter climbed to his feet and helped him up too. The surprise stayed in his eyes when Jacob was now the same height as him. It was only maybe three or four inches higher than his previous height but that was noticeable too.
Margo and Anthony were stuck to the spot. They didn't have the ability to move or speak, they were just too shocked.
Hunter took Jacob's hands once more and looked him in the eyes. He didn't really know what to do but he could feel his alarm and needed to stop him from breaking down.
"Um..." He examined his muscular arms, chest and body. He wanted so badly to know what he looked like under those clothes. "Well, I guess... um, this will be hard to hide from your family."
