Chapter 73

Lunar Whispers

Scott, William, Margo and Anthony received a huge shock when a very loud bang echoed through the room. Looking up, the light was swinging from whatever hit the floor. Without saying a word, they climbed to their feet and aimed for the stairs. The only person who could have appeared upstairs was Jacob. Or one of the painters had fallen.

Nathan went home to give Vic a very stern lecture about his views.

When they reached the second floor, Hunter's room was the first door on the right. Everyone ran towards it and their worry grew with what they saw.

Hunter was unconscious, Sam had blood trailing down the side of his head and they were soaking wet. Sam couldn't bring himself to stand up, he was breathing heavy and trying to pull his head into a better place. Seconds ago, he thought he was going to drown, a miracle saved him and Hunter. Sam could not believe that anyone would want to kill two beautifully soulful people.

"Hunter!" Margo breathed, alarmed by the blood and bruises forming on his face. She ran to his aid, just like Anthony. William and Scott ran to Jacob, crouching to see if he was alright.

"What happened?" Anthony asked, desperation lingering in his tone.

"His Omega's," Margo was trying not to cry while her gift worked its magic. "They are traitors. They tried to kill him!"

"What!"

"Why?" Scott breathed and rested a hand on Sam's shoulder, checking if he was okay.

"They don't like the Gods," Jacob furrowed his eyebrows. "They pushed him off a cliff and into the sea. He and Sam nearly drowned, I only just made it to them in time. Please, he needs a doctor."

Anthony fumbled in his pocket and quickly pulled out his phone. He knows some wolves who are doctors and will drop everything to aid Hunter. By the sounds of it, taking him outside is too dangerous.

Margo rested her hands on his head and gently stroked his cold cheek.

"I think he'll be okay. Nothing too severe has happened to his head but we need to change his clothes," She looked up, expecting everyone but Jacob and Anthony to leave.

"We'll wait downstairs for the doctor," Scott replied. "William, help Sam to his feet."

William moved over, not caring if Sam was soaking wet as he lifted his cold arm and put it around his own shoulders. Sam would be ecstatic if it wasn't for his own injury, interfering with his feelings.

Admitting how he felt to Hunter was because he really thought they would drown. Now that he had shared it with someone made him realise that it wasn't so bad to be heard.

When they were on their way out of the room, Anthony put his phone down after having a very short, yet serious conversation. A doctor was on their way.

"What are his injuries?" Anthony asked.

"I can't quite tell for sure," Margo's horrified eyes stared at the deep purple bruises forming on his ribs. "His nose is broken and his jaw is a little beaten. He has about six or... maybe eight broken ribs. Um," She was overwhelmed at seeing him so emotionless and hurt. "He has dislocated his shoulder too."

Jacob sighed, feeling very sorry for him.

"He's freezing."

Anthony ran a hand through his hair.

"He doesn't even have clothes or a duvet we could wrap him in. Everything he owns was burnt in the fire."

Jacob quickly stood up with a twinkle of hope in his eyes.

"I'll be right back." All it took was a simple blink for him to disappear from sight.

Margo started pulling Hunter's jeans off but was faced with more bruises. Warm tears flooded down her face.

"How can his own pack do such a thing?" She whispered. "They are supposed to be by his side forever. How is he going to trust anyone again?"

Anthony put an arm under his son's neck and an arm under his legs, gently lifting him up, wanting to place him on the mattress.

"He'll never get over his fear of water after this," His veins were pulsing with immense anger. When he laid him down, he looked up like he was staring at the sky. "What has he done to deserve this? He's just a boy."

Jacob's feet hit the wooden floorboards and his arms were too full to catch his fall. Yet he toppled onto the duvet which he had carried over. Hunter's parents rushed over to take some dry clothes and a soft cushion to put under their son's head.

The doorbell could be heard echoing through the house while the two painters stood in the doorway, watching with worry.

Scott rushed to bring the doctor inside and alerting the bodyguards about what had happened. Sam stayed sitting on the couch, wanting the doctor to aid Hunter before himself.

"Can I get you anything?" William asked.

"I'm fine I'm just... happy to be alive." Sam was exhausted, he wanted to sleep for days. "Actually, could you get me some tissue, I'm sick of getting blood in my eye."

William pulled out some kitchen roll that he already grabbed. He shuffled closer, looking at the deep wound with further concentration.

"That looks sore."

Sam reached for the tissue but William took the task into his own hands and held it up, gently dabbing the wound and soaking up the blood on his head.

"It's fine, I'll be healed in a few days."

"Is that like... a werewolf thing?"

"It is," Sam smiled but his eyes didn't light up, he was not feeling himself. Trying not to stare at William was hard, especially when he was sitting close. But he couldn't admit his feelings, he isn't his mate. There is no point developing feelings for someone who is not his chosen one. He could wait his whole lifetime searching, but if his mate never comes, then he would rather be lonely then fall for someone who isn't right.

And plus, William isn't gay, as far as he's aware.

"Remember to give him these painkillers every four hours. He's going to be in agony for a few days." The doctor stood up and straightened out her waistcoat. "Keep him warm, hydrated and make sure he eats something when he wakes up. These tablets will make him feel drowsy but he needs nutrients."

Margo and Anthony nodded at her words.

"Thank you for getting to us so fast, we can't thank you enough," Margo gave her a hug. She has known this woman for many years.

"You're more than welcome. This is the least I could do." The doctor's eyes were so drawn to Jacob. "Excuse me for being so informal Jacota, but you are loved and worshipped among many wolves. Do not let those who fall off the path of faith drag you down. You are their leader whether they like it or not. And it is a pleasure to meet you."

Jacob showed a little smile and a single nod.

"Thank you."

Satisfied, the doctor then turned and left, knowing Sam downstairs needed medical attention.

When she was gone, Jacob took his gaze back to Hunter. The wound on his head was covered with a white dressing. His nose was cleaned and the doctor had put two white sticky strips on it, holding it securely so it could heal correctly. His left eye was rather swollen and bruised.

"When will he wake up?"

Margo sat on the edge of the bed, feeling the anger pulsing through her.

"Hopefully soon. But he needs his rest."

Jacob stood up and clenched his fists. He too was angry. It is true that he didn't know much about how packs work, but loyalty is exceptionally important. Hunter trusted those men with his life and they betrayed him.

Anthony watched him with an immense flow of revenge manipulating his heart.

"Margo, Jacob and I have something to deal with."

His wife turned, connecting the gateway to their souls. She knew what he had to do and when it came to their son, nobody got in their way.

"Go, everything will be fine here." They turned and approached the door. "Be safe."

Anthony flashed her a comforting but not a happy smile.

"We will. Tell us if he wakes up."

Anthony, his pack, and Jacob had been running through the woods, searching from house to house but there was no sign of the omega wolves. Each home showed hints that they had packed up and moved on. Anthony was furious, this meant that they were planning to kill their son for some time now.

When Ricky's home was empty too, Anthony flipped the wooden table with anger.

"I can't believe this!" He yelled. "Who do they think they are!?"

"Alpha," Ray, his Beta wolf spoke. "Is it wise to maybe call a city meeting? There will be people willing to help. Surely, someone must know where they went?"

Anthony clenched his jaw and looked around.

"Burn their homes. Burn everything, they are not getting away with this. Jacob, come with me. My pack will get started right away."

The wolves watched him stomp out of the house. They felt rather satisfied with destroying all of the filthy Omega's belongings. Pack betrayal was worse than family betrayal, they couldn't imagine how hurt Hunter will be.

"What are we doing?" Jacob questioned.

"Calling a city meeting. I'm not going to stop until I find them. I know you're angry too Jacob, the sky hasn't stopped with the thunder," Anthony's eyes were filled with dark emotions. "It's not my son they want dead, it's you. I should have known that there would have been a great deal of conflict, I just had hopeful wool over my eyes, thinking that everyone would be inspired by you like I am."

"It's not your fault. Nobody knew the conflict would be in Hunter's pack. Not even Sam had suspicions."

"I know, but the thought of all three of you being dead right now makes me feel sick."

"It was Alisha who told me, well her spirit." He spoke quietly as Anthony crossed his arms and stared hard. "That's why I could see her. She knew the Omega's were disloyal so Ricky killed her, not wanting their plan ruined. Someone came to me in the bedroom using her body. They didn't tell me who, but are werewolves the only other supernatural beings to exist?"

"Uh, well... yes I believe so. Apart from the Gods of course." Anthony narrowed his eyes, starting to get used to Jacob's discrete but visible hesitation. "You're not sure, are you?"

The God shook his head.

"I know werewolves can't appear to people in spirit and I know it wasn't another God."

Anthony shrugged.

"I don't know who it was unless angels are real but I honestly doubt that." Shaking his head, he has had enough. "Come on, don't let that bother you right now. We have to go to the city hall, tick off everyone who enters and rule out those who don't turn up as suspects."

"Um wait, I can teleport us there."

"Oh, alright." Anthony walked over and held onto him. Seeing Jacob as his son's mate was a blessing. Today, he saved Hunter's life and he will forever be incredibly grateful. "I hope you're ready to defend yourself. I don't know how many wolves will turn up having the same thoughts as those Omega's."

"I am prepared. And I'm angry."

"Will you show them your anger?"

Jacob nodded.

"They hurt Hunter-" He stopped when Sam's voice invaded his head.

"Jacob! Get back to the house, there's like a weird gathering of wolves going on in the field behind the garden. I don't think they're here to worship you."

"Okay, I'm on my way."

"We're going back to the house. I have a strong feeling that the mission will be fulfilled, today."

"Alright, do whatever you have to do."

Jacob swallowed his fear and with a simple blink, they disappeared. He didn't know what was going to happen, he didn't know if the people crowding outside the house would be willing to fight, or even kill. The Omega wolves turned their back on Hunter with so much ease, he feared for the worst.

However, they don't know how strong he really is. They don't know that they are about to test his patience and watch it snap. And they don't know what it feels like to be in the wrath of an angry God, or what it feels like to have unspeakable amounts of electricity, surging through their bodies.

Thoughtless actions might just be enough to cost them their lives. And they are feeling rather reckless, mindless and unaware of how much danger they are in, under the mighty eye of Jacota.
