Third Person P.O.V

Jim sighs as he tosses pebbles, and he watches them clang on the roof and roll off. He leans against one of the buildings window ledges and sighs.

Thunder rumbles above, and he ignores it as he listens to Delbert.

"I really don't know how you manage it, Sarah. Trying to run a business while raising a felon like-- felon... Fellow! Fellow like Jim." Jim watches his mother sigh and rub her head.

"Manage it? I'm at the end of my rope! If not for (Y/N) I'm sure this place would be chaotic." Sarah sighs. "Ever since his father left... Well... Jim's just never recovered. And you know how smart he is! He built his first solar surfer when he was eight!" Jim lightly smiles, but frowns when the next sentence leaves her lips.

"And yet he is failing school, he is constantly in trouble... And when I talk to him... He's like a stranger to me."

"Sarah... Jim just needs some time," a voice interupts, and Jim looks through the window, seeing (Y/N) scrubbing a nearby table. "But he also needs you... He just doesn't want to say it because he knows how hard you work and he doesn't want to burden you. I just hope I can help him to break out of his shell more..." She sighs and rubs her forehead.

Jim smiles at (Y/N), placing a hand on the glass.

You do help me... More than you can possibly know.

He sighs and runs a hand through his hair.

Maybe I should tell her how I feel... Or... Maybe not. Why would she want a loser like me? She's smart... She's brave... Perfect... Everything I'm not.

Maybe she could like me back...?

"Doubt it." He mumbles to himself.

Jim buries his face in his hands, but jolts when he hears something whizz past him, sputtering.

He looks up and sees a old-looking ship, engine smoking and wheezing as it staggers in the air. It crashes on the dock and the engine dies.

He leaps off the roof, running to the person's aid.

His heart hammered heavily as he ran across the dock, skidding to a stop and banging on the glass. It was too smoke filled to see inside.

"Hey! Mister? You're okay in there, right?" Jim shouts, pausing his knocking after a moment.

He gasps and lets out a startled yelp when a turtle hand with claws smacks the window, and it pops open, revealing a old armadillo-turtle mutant alien.

A chest falls out next to him as he collapses and wheezes.

The turtle-armadillo mutant grabs Jim's shirt, yanking him close.

"He's a-comin'!" The turtle manages out, coughing. "Can ya hear him?" Jim pauses and looks around in discomfort as he continues, "those gears and gyros clickin' and whirrin'..." His neck stretches as he moves closer to Jim's face, and Jim struggles to back away, his shirt still in the man's claw. "... Like the Devil himself!"

The turtle lets go of Jim, making him sigh in relief.

"Uh..." Jim places two fingers on his forehead, "hit your head pretty hard, didn't ya?" He asks, watching the turtle shuffle to the broken ship.

The turtle turns while wheezing and grabbing his chest.

"He's after me chest..." He grabs it and holds it protectively, looking around, paranoid. "That fiendish cyborg and his band of cutthroats." He strained to put the chest on his shoulder. "But they'll have to pry it from Old Billy Bones' cold dead fingers afore I--" he gasps and grabs his throat, coughing and collapsing, a hand still on his chest as he coughs violently.

"Oh, my--" Jim sputters in worry, kneeling next to Billy Bones. "Uh, come on, give me your arm." Jim grabs his arm and hoists it over his shoulder as Billy grabs his chest with his free hand. "That's it," Jim encourages as they start up the path to the inn.

"Good lad," Billy thanks, swaying.

Jim sighs and looks at the figures in the window.

"Mom and (Y/N) are gonna love this," he growls to himself.

...

(Y/N)'s P.O.V

I watch as Sarah flickers a switch, making the rainy scene morph into a tropical island setting. She switches it again to a lovely flower meadow and sighs, turning to me and Delbert.

"Thanks for listening, Delbert, (Y/N)." She sighs and sits down, burying her face in her hands. "It helps."

Delbert and I glance sadly at each other and he walks over to her, gently patting her shoulder.

"It's going to be okay," he promises. "You'll see."

I see a small smile form on her face, but it fades as she grasps her necklace.

"I keep dreaming one day I'll open the door..." A projection of Jim as a baby appears and he giggles. It changes to a older 4 year old Jim playing with a toy, "and there he'll be." It changes to a 8 year old Jim, holding some purple creature with a large smile. "A smiling, happy little boy, holding a new pet..." Sarah lets out a soft, sad chuckle. "And begging me to let him keep it."

Delbert opens the front door to the inn, ready to leave and I gasp as a flash of lighting goes through the sky, revealing Jim holding a old, injured man.

"James Pleiades Hawkins!" Sarah exclaims, jolting up.

I race over to Jim, "Jim?!"

"Mom, he's hurt... Bad!" Jim struggles to get him inside, and the man collapses onto the floor.

Jim and I kneel side by side next to him, and I notice several woulds in his torso and neck, some bruising and some bleeding.

The lungs on his cheek flare as he struggles to breathe and he looks up at me.

"Me chest, Lass," he wheezes out.

I look next to me and see a old medium size chest, and I manage to drag it to him.

He groans and slightly props himself up before typing in the code to the chest.

"He'll be comin' soon," Jim watches in fascination and follows the pattern he used on the chest carefully. He reaches in and grabs something, coughing.

"Can't let them find this..."

"Who's coming?" Jim asks, and the man grabs both of our shirts, yanking us to his level as he whispers in our ears.

"The cyborg!" He pauses, his breath becoming shorter. "Beware the cyborg!" Lightning flashes and me and Jim glance at each other, slight fear in both of our eyes.

The man gasps and his grip loosens on our shirts before he collapses backwards, and his last breath escapes his lungs.

I look over at Jim with horrified eyes and noticed the man gave him whatever was in that chest.

Sarah gasps in horror, a hand flying to her mouth as she shakes her head.

Jim and I look up as a beam of light moves over the roof windows of the inn, and I rush and slam the door shut, locking it.

I hear men outside and Jim slowly flickers the switch slightly to reveal outside, and his eyes widen before flicking it back into place.

He races forward and grabs my hand, holding it almost painfully tight.

"Quick! We gotta go!" He shouts, grabbing his mom with his other hand.

"Delbert!" I shout as we run up the stairs and we pause, watching as a ray gun beam shoots through the lock of the door, him barely managing to dodge it.

"I believe I'm with Jim on this one!" He exclaims as he races up the stairs, following us.

More shots are fired and I hear the unmistakable roar of a fire starting. I felt myself freeze in place and Jim is yanked back by the sudden stop, looking back at me.

Not now, not again!

Sarah rushes ahead to Delbert, but I pay no attention to them.

I feel myself panicking as I see the bright orange flames down the stairs.

No, no, no, no...

"(Y/N)!" Jim shouts, "(Y/N), (Y/N), listen to me. You're okay, I promise you're okay, but we have to go, now!" He gently, but sternly says, grabbing my cheeks with his hands.

He forces me to look at him and I blink rapidly, nodding. He pulls me to his chest and hugs me tightly for a moment and I pull away with a smile.

He smiles back, but they fade when we hear thumping and see shadows running up the stairs.

Jim slams the door shut and grabs my arm, racing to the window, where Delbert and Sarah were perched on the ledge.

"On the count of three!" Delbert says in a panic. "One..."

Jim shoves them down, "three!" He grabs me and jumps after them just as the door was smashed down and I shriek, Jim holding me close as we landed.

My eyes were squeezed tightly and I cling onto Jim, slowly opening them when I realize we were driving away.

I feel arms tighten around my waist and legs and my eyes snap open, a heavy blush on my face when I realize my arms were wrapped tightly around Jim's torso while his arms were around me, and I was sitting on his lap, my legs to the side.

Delbert continues to yell words of encouragement to Delilah and I see Sarah look back at the inn.

She gasps and slumps back into her seat, her face of horror and sadness evident as she drops her head in her hands.

Jim looks down at me, and I see his cheeks were a slight shade of pink.

"What did he give you?" I question, tilting my head as he suddenly gasps, reaching in his pocket.

I relax against him again as he takes the object out, and he secures his arm around me again.

He unwraps the cloth around the spherical shape, revealing a copper sphere, with buttons that had the same pattern on them as the ones on the old man's chest did.

I look up at Jim, my (E/C) eyes and his bright blue ones locking as we stare at each other in confusion.

I sigh, leaning my head against his chest.

I hear his heart pound rapidly before it calms down after a bit, still faster than a normal heart beat and Jim sighs, hugging me closer to him and placing a soft kiss in my (H/C) hair.
