Chapter 7: Set Sails and Brawl

I'm Still HereWords: 13125

Third Person P.O.V

A lone alien with 6 eyes from above yells in a high pitched voice, "we're all clear, Captaaaain!"

Amelia stands straight and tall, observing a crew member steering her ship. Delbert was peeking over the ledge, almost falling over.

"Well, my friend. Are we ready to raise this creaking tub?" Amelia smirks at Mr. Arrow.

"My pleasure, Captain." Amelia nods with a smile as he booms, "all hands to stations!"

Jim and (Y/N) emerge from below, watching everyone frantically run around.

"Come on, ya scurvy scum!" A raspy woman's voice comes from a small monster with two legs with hands on the end. "I'll race ya!"

Other aliens chase after her onto the beams, grabbing their assigned rope.

"Loose all Solar sails!" Mr. Arrow commands, and they oblige, releasing the sails open.

Jim looks over at (Y/N) with a small blush on his face, in awe at how adorable she looked as she watched the aliens above in fascination.

Jim was snapped out of his daze by someone ramming into him, and he shoots a sharp glare at the alien that crashed into him while pulling ropes.

Jim grabs (Y/N) and drags her to a safer spot, away from the others.

The ship slowly starts to rise into the air and (Y/N) and Jim look over the side at the flying rays.

"Heave up the braces!" Mr. Arrow continued. "Brace up!"

The small main sail opens up, and starts to glimmer as the sunlight hits its solar panel. The rest of the masts start to shimmer as well, indicating they were powering up.

Jim taps (Y/N) and points to the masts, not wanting her to miss out on anything.

She looks over and her gaze lifts to the masts, making her (E/C) eyes shine with the shimmers in the sails.

Jim smiles softly and looks back at the masts.

Meanwhile down below, a chubby purple alien with horns watches in anticipation as power gathers in 3 tubes. He grips the power lever and impatiently taps his fingers.

Back above, the ship was still rising and gathering power through the sails.

(Y/N) squeals and Jim instinctively grabs her hand as they start to lift off the ground, due to no gravity as they rose higher.

Delbert gasps and flails about, while Amelia and Mr. Arrow look unfazed.

"Mr. Zoff, engage artificial gravity," she calmly calls, and the fart alien from below salutes and lets out a string of fart noises, pressing down on a lever.

A bright purple light goes over the whole ship.

Delbert crashes on his face, while Amelia and Mr. Arrow land softly on their feet.

Jim gracefully lands and catches (Y/N) bridal style before she fell on her bum, and she awkwardly laughs at the position they're in.

Jim notices a red hue spreading on her face.

She doesn't... Like me? Does she? Jim questions himself.

Amelia looks down at Delbert and ignores him, "south by southwest, Mr. Turnbuckle, heading 2-1-0-0."

"Aye, Captain. 2-1-0-0." The alien steering the ship replies, turning the ship.

"Full speed, Mr. Arrow, if you please," Amelia orders.

Jim stares at (Y/N) as she nervously tries to get out of his grasp.

"Er, Jim... You can set me down... Now?" She squeaks out, making Jim nearly swoon at the cuteness she presented.

"O-Oh, right," he stammers out, setting her down.

Nice, Jim. That was your chance, ya idiot. Jim growls in his head, watching and following (Y/N) as she walks over to the edge of the ship.

"Take her away!" Mr. Arrow shouts into a tube leading to where the purple alien resides.

Down below:

He grins and moves the lever forward.

Back above:

"Brace yourself, Doctor." Amelia wisely advises, but Delbert rolls his eyes in annoyance.

"'Brace yourself'," he snidely mocks, before the ship was launched forward.

He screams and flies backward, slamming into the wall while Amelia and Mr. Arrow barely flinched.

Jim steadies (Y/N) before helping her onto the netting of the ship, climbing on himself.

Jim positioned himself so (Y/N) was in front of him, his chest against her back and his right arm holding her shoulder to the net, just in case she lost her grip.

The wind flies in both the teenager's hair and Jim taps (Y/N), "whoa!" He motions to the flying giant orcus, and she gasps in awe.

"Holy whale..." She mumbles, making Jim laugh.

One flies above the ship, making a shadow appear overhead. One slowly passes Jim and (Y/N), looking at the pair curiously before speeding off.

"Upon my word, an Orcus Galactius!" Delbert gasps, leaning over with a camera as a Orcus passes near him. "Smile!"

Amelia notices, "uh, Doctor, I'd stand clear--" She was too late, cut off by the Orcus sneezing out of his blow hole, right at Delbert. He slowly clicks the button, and his camera takes a photo.

Amelia lets a small laugh slip from her lips, shaking her head in amusement.

Her smile instantly drops to a scowl when she hears a voice speak.

"Ah! 'tis a grand day for sailing, Captain." Silver calls from below, making Amelia peek over at Silver. Morph flies next to him, hovering. "And look at you!" He fixes his coat, "you're as trim and as bonny as a sloop," he takes off his hat, bowing, "with new sails and a fresh coat of paint."

Amelia rolls her eyes, "you can keep that kind of flim-flammery for your spaceport floozies, Silver."

Morph changes into Amelia, gaining Silver's attention.

"Spaceport floozy, spaceport floozy," Morph mocks, swaying his hips with each word.

Silver quickly scoops him into his hat, placing it on his head.

"You cut me to the quick, Captain," Silver says, mocking hurt. "I speaks nothin' but me heart at all times."

"Nothin' but me heart," Morph mocks, making Silver slam a hand on his hat.

Amelia's gaze shifts to (Y/N) and Jim, watching as he protectively watches the girl as she makes her way off the net, ensuring she doesn't fall.

"And, by the way, isn't that your Cabin boy and girl, aimlessly footling about in those shrouds?" Amelia demands, making Silver nervously chuckle.

"Yep... It... Oh... A momentary aberration, Cap'n. Soon to be addressed." Silver stammers, sighing heavily in defeat.

...

(Y/N)'s P.O.V

Jim grips my hand, lowering me gently to the deck while he remains on the net.

"Jimbo! Lassie!" I hear Silver call, making Jim and I look over at him.

"I got three new friends I'd like ya's to meet!"

Jim and I look around for other people, looking at each other in confusion when we see no one.

We look back to Silver, "say hello Mr. Mop, his brother Mr. Rag, and Mrs. Bucket!" He shouts, throwing a mop at me and Jim, followed by a bucket.

I barely catch the mop, but Jim catches it easily. His only hand gripping the net flies off when the bucket is thrown, making him nearly fall back.

I quickly grab his jacket, yanking him back to the net and he leans against it, a irritated look present on his face.

"Yippie." Jim replies in a monotone, and I quickly remove my hand from him when I realize I was still holding him.

Jim noticed too, glancing to where my hand was back up to me.

Silver disappears and Jim sighs, climbing off the net.

He fills the bucket with soap and water and sets it down near me.

We dip our mops into the bucket before we begin mopping the deck.

"Yeah, we got your Mr. Mop and Mr. Rag," Jim growls to himself in annoyance.

"If you'd like, you can sit while I do this, Jim. I don't mind," I tell him. "I'm used to doing this from working at the inn."

"Nah," Jim shoots the idea down. "It isn't all bad," he pauses, choosing his words carefully, "I mean, I get to spend more time with you, right?"

He grins shyly at me and heat rushed to my cheeks.

"Ye... Yeah! Sure!" I stammer out, cursing myself for stuttering as I wince.

A dorky grin spreads on my face, but is quickly wiped off when I grunt as a large alien rams into me, making me trip backwards. Luckily, Jim catches me from behind, his hands grabbing under my arms and stabling me.

"Watch it, twerp!" The large alien snarls at me, walking away.

"You watch it!" Jim snaps back, huffing with a scowl of annoyance as he slowly releases me. "You okay?" Jim asks softly, steadying me.

"Yeah... Wasn't expecting it is... All..." I trail off, noticing a couple of sketchy crew members murmuring.

I nudge Jim and subtly gesture to them, making him nod as he continue mopping. After a few moments, I guess Jim was staring for too long, because I heard the whispering stop.

I glance up and see he was indeed watching them, and they were looking right back at us.

"What are you lookin' at, weirdos?" A deep voice demands, and I gasp as the owner of the voice's head crawls off his body, revealing it was two aliens.

"Yeah. Weirdos," his body mimics in a higher voice.

Jim raises a brow at the pair, and I hear a hiss from above.

I glance up and gasp in horror, my hand reaching for Jim's sleeve and I tug it, making him follow my gaze.

A spider-scorpion hybrid was climbing down the nets with ease, hissing at us. His bright yellow eyes glowed a menacingly eerie gold, making me shudder.

"Cabin boys and girls should learn to mind their business," his voice hisses as he towers over us.

"We were, you guys are the one's with a problem," I reply, making his glare flicker from Jim to me.

"Yeah. Got somethin' to hide, bright eyes?" Jim demands, flashing me a smirk at his insult to the spider.

I gasp when Jim was grabbed by the throat, "maybe your ears don't work so well."

"Let him go!" I demand, but he ignores me, raising Jim to his eye level.

"Yeah," Jim coughs, recoiling from his bad breath, "too bad my nose works just fine!"

"Why you impudent little--" He hisses, slamming Jim onto the pillar. Jim struggles and claws at his arm to no avail, losing air.

"I said, let him go!" I shout, kicking one of his legs harshly, forcing him to drop Jim.

The spider turns to me and grabs me, slamming me against the pillar harshly. I gasp as my head comes into contact with the pillar, and I become dizzy. I hear a crowd forming, all begging for him to slice me open.

"Hey!" Jim exclaims as he quickly scrambles to his feet, rushing in and grasping at Mr. Scoop's arm holding me with a snarl. "Drop her, now!"

"Any last words, Cabin girl?" He hisses at me while ignoring Jim.

I glare back at him, spitting in his face. He growls and raises a sharp claw to slice my throat, when his other arm was roughly grabbed and yanked down, Jim stumbling a bit as he releases it with wide eyes of surprise.

"Mr. Scroop..." A familiar voice calmly speaks, my eyes widening at the sight of Silver. "You ever see what happens to a fresh purp... When you squeeze... Real hard?" Silver demands, twisting Scroop's arm, making him cry out in agony and drop me.

I groan in pain and Jim hugs me tightly with a breath of relief, rubbing my back soothingly.

"What's all this, then?" Mr. Arrow's voice demands.

Mr. Arrow walks onto the deck, stopping when he notices me on the ground, clutching my head.

"You know the rules," he speaks to the crew. "They'll be no brawling on this ship." A choir of voices murmur in agreement. "Any further offenders will be confined to the brig for the remainder of the voyage," he stops in front of Scroop. He leans towards him, intimidating the alien, "am. I. Clear. Mr. Scroop?"

Scroop turns red with anger, and I notice Silver glare at him, daring him to oppose.

"Transparently," Scroop chokes out, his jaw clenching.

Mr. Arrow walks away and the crowd disperses.

"Well done, Mr. Arrow, sir!" Silver shouts, shooing away the remainder of the crew. "A tight ship's a happy ship, sir."

Silver drops the act and scoops up our mops, "Jimbo! Lassie! I gave ya's a job."

Jim helps me up and I slightly sway, "hey! We were doing it until that bug thing--"

"Belay that!" Silver interrupts, loudly. I grip the back of my head and hiss in pain. "Now, I want this deck swabbed spotless!" He shoves the mops in our hands. "And heaven help you if I come back and it's not-- Lassie?" He stops his rant as I slump to the floor on my knees.

"(Y/N)?" Jim questions, kneeling down next to me.

I bring my hand from behind my head, and notice blood covered my hand. I hear Jim and Silver lightly gasp.

"Ohhh... Dang..." I mumble.

"Oh, Lass, you gotta get yourself up and over to the Cap'n! Let's go." Silver says, helping me up.

"I can do that, she needs me!" Jim retaliates.

"This deck needs ya more than she does," Silver dismisses him. "Morph!" Morph squeals and rushes over.

"Keep an eye on this pup... And let me know if there are any more distractions."

Silver leads me away from Jim and I look back at him, mouthing 'Sorry'.

He tries to follow with an annoyed growl, but Morph floats in his path, his eyes becoming large as he coos with disapproval.

...

Silver's P.O.V

I grumble to myself, helping (Y/N) to stand as she sways slightly, grasping her head.

"Scroop really did ya in, didn't he, Lassie?"

She doesn't reply to me, though she does eye me warily.

"It was foolish of ya to do what you did, intervening like that." I continue, shaking my head with a stern look.

"... Wouldn't you want to protect the person you care, about?" She questions, making me glance at her.

I open the door to the Captains quarters and push the Lass in, hearing Amelia instantly fuss over her in concern.

I shut the door before making my way out onto the deck.

Aye, Lassie. I would.
