—23. Love At First Bite

ALWAYS AND FOREVER

New York City, 1885

Love seemed impossible for Aurora. Yes, she had Kol, but that was a best friend or brotherly love—not the kind of love where it is overwhelming to be around them, but never want to be away from them.

She had never experienced love like that, or really, any love in general. Her brothers always forbade her from seeing boys in Mystic Falls, they were extremely protective of their sister.

Becoming a vampire and travelling the world along with an Original opened a lot of doors—one bad thing came with being friends with Kol; his family.

She had never met them, but to say she wasn't a big fan of them, would be an understatement.

Kol had gotten a letter from an unknown—clearly compelled man, it came from New York. His family wanted him to come back.

And Kol, being the mischievous little devil was, brought Aurora along—because what could go wrong?

It's not like she would fall in love with one, right? Or so he thought.

——

Kol and Aurora sat in a carriage, along with two almost dead women. Auroras teeth were latched into the skin of the blonde woman, her head barely attached.

Kol pulled away from his red-head, tossing her body to the floor of the carriage, "Easy, darling. It will be harder to explain a woman missing her head."

Aurora pulled away, the woman's head still attached, "We are vampires, Kol. We can just compel them."

Kol leaned back in his seat, "Well, that might be difficult when everyone is running and screaming bloody murder."

Aurora sighed, tossing the woman down on top of the other. She licked her fingers, her eyes rolling back from the euphoric taste.

This was one reason Kol was slightly nervous for her to meet the family—Aurora was slightly psycho on blood, especially being a ripper.

And Mikael was still out to get them. So he hoped he could get her to reign in her terror streak before she led him to them.

The carriage suddenly came to a stop, the doors opened, and a man stood to the side, "We have arrived, Ms. Mikaelson, Miss. Salvatore.

Kol stepped out first, smirking as he raised a hand to help Aurora out—which she rolled her eyes at,

"I may be a woman, but I do not need your help, Kol."

Kol shrugged, his hand still in its waiting position for her hand, "I beg to differ. You are extremely clumsy when high on blood."

"That is different." She said, before lazily placing her hand in his, carefully taking the steps off of the carriage.

They stood side-by-side, hands still clutched together, "Welcome to the nightmare, darling." Kol sighed, second guessing seeing his family again.

Aurora squeezed his hand, a comforting gesture Kol appreciated, "You don't have to do this, you know. We can leave, berate a new town?"

Kol wrapped an arm around her shoulder, pulling her closer while walking towards the entrance, "As fun as that sounds, I have to do this. Besides, they will meet my delightful friend, the person I have chosen over them for decades now."

Aurora smirked, "Are you sure they won't kill me for that? They seem pretty protective from what you have told me."

"I won't let them touch a hair on that pretty little head of yours, I promise."

She turned to him with a stern look, "Don't make promises you can't keep, Kol."

He scoffed, stopping in front of the door, "When have I ever broken a promise?" Seeing the look in her face, he winced, "Ok, don't answer that."

Aurora nodded sarcastically, "Yeah, that's what I thought."

Kol breathed in deeply, his hand twitching as it grabbed hold of the knob of the door, "Stay behind me, darling."

Aurora nodded, moving a few steps behind him.

He turned the knob fast, a smirk appearing on his face as he announced himself to his family, "The best and most handsome Mikaelson is back. I know, I know, you've all missed me to bits, but don't get too excited."

Aurora rolled her eyes, walking in behind him.

Suddenly, three people—two men, one woman sped in front of them, blocking their path.

"Well, well, well. Look who finally decided to show up." A blonde man with a smooth British accent, like Kol's, spoke.

Kol shrugged, his hand squeezing Auroras, "Oh, Nik, always so welcoming. It warms my heart."

The woman with blonde hair, that was pulled back in a tight, elegant bun, rolled her eyes, "You have a heart? Oh, I didn't know."

The brunet man, with chocolate brown eyes, Aurora thought he looked the most similar to Kol, had caught sight of Aurora, "And who might be the stray you brought along with you Kol?"

Aurora scoffed, crossing her arms. The other two Originals finally looked over, their eyes widening slightly as they hadn't even noticed the girl.

Kol smirked, wrapping an arm around her shoulders, pulling her close—showing he cared for the girl, and that she was under his protection.

"This is my dearest friend."

Aurora rolled her eyes, hitting Kol in the chest, "More like your only friend," she said, and Rebekah's eyes lit up with interest as did Klaus'—but a different type of interest, "Aurora. Aurora Salvatore." She introduced.

Elijah walked up, smiling at the girl, "I am sorry about the stray comment, miss Salvatore."

She shook her head silently, accepting the kiss he planted the back of her hand.

Then, Rebekah walked up to the girl excitedly, "We are going to be the best of friends, by the time we are done, you'll have forgotten all about Kol."

Kol scoffed, placing had to his heart in fake hurt, "That is awfully rude Rebekah."

Rebekah smirked at her brother, completely missing the unwavering gaze Klaus had been sending the new vampire since he had noticed her.

He walked forward, a smirk planted on his face, "Excuse my siblings behaviour, love." He gently picked up her hand, the world disappearing around them as they gazed into each others eyes.

"You must be Klaus." She said quietly, as he brought her hand down, but never let go.

"Klaus is the name all my enemies call me, please, call me Nik." He smiled, his feather like touch igniting flames in her skin.

And that was the start of the best and worst love of Auroras life.
