The Billionaire’s Ex-Wife (Her Ex-Husband’s Regret) Chapter 10
The Billionaire’s Ex-Wife (Her Ex-Husband’s Regret) by Jaike e Rylee
Chapter 10
Cassie.
My heart is still pounding inside my ribcage as I walk with wobbly legs back to the boardroom.
How dare he touch me like he didnât abandon and break my heart four years ago?
And why did I respond to him like he still affects me?
As soon as I go back to my seat, Megan approaches me with a stern expression on her face. âDo you really think youâve won this time? Coming back to our lives, all high and mighty? Today may have been yours, but I know you! You donât have what it takes to hold that position for long.â
I stare back at her, raising a brow. âI donât think you know me at all, Megan. For the past four years, Iâve built my empire from nothing. Iâve endured battles and won every single time. I have what it takes to head my familyâs company.â
âIs that so?â Kayden asks. It takes me a moment to realize that everyone in the boardroom is staring at us.
I swallow hard and compose myself. I smile at him and say, âOf course. Iâve faced challenges that would make most people crumble, and Iâve come out on top every time. So rest assured that I will lead this company to even greater heights.â
âKingâs Court is in a different league than your current game,â Kaydenâs voice is cold and steady. I have no doubt in my mind that I hurt his ego with my power slap a while ago. âYour designs are doubtless brilliant. But it will take more than DNA to prove that you can do this job.â
Kayden flicks at the remote and a worksheet with numbers appear on the screen.
âThese are the numbers of Kingâs Legend,â he says. âThis was supposed to be your grandfatherâs greatest legacy.â
I heard of Kingâs Legend before. But I thought those were just rumors.
âPoised to be the first sevenâstar hotel in Miami, this is Kingâs Courtâs most ambitious project yet.â
He presses the remote to show photos of the plan, 3D models and groundbreaking ceremony.
âHowever, when your grandfather fell sick, this project has been shelved,â Kayden continues. âApart from the problematic designs, the major investors backed out because of the lack of confidence in the companyâs leadership.â
âThis project is far too ambitious,â one of the board members say. âWithout the major players and their billionâdollar investments, Kingâs Court will never be able to finance this project at all.â
I donât think itâs in the companyâs best interest to continue this project now,â another board member agrees.
âBut we have a new Chairman now,â Kayden raises a challenging brow at me. âWho assures us that she can take this company to
new heights. Isnât that right, Miss King?â
Fuck! What is he playing at?
âBâbut with our current finances, this project is near impossible to achieve, Attorney Magnus argues.

Shares of Kingâs Court.â Kayden flashes the photo of Kingâs Legend 3D rendering on the screen. âI believe it can be done. With the right connections and of course the right leadership.â
*Kingâs Legend is one of the things that convinced me to buy a lot
He looks at me, his eyes full of challenge.
Now, more than ever, I feel the weight of my grandfatherâs unfinished legacy on my shoulders.
âThis isnât on the agenda today, Mr. Steele, Attorney Magnus points out. âPerhaps we can table this for now.â
I keep my face steady, devoid of any emotions. I stare back at the drawings of Kingâs Legend. Without a doubt, this will cost a fortune with its intricate design and lavish architecture.
Kaydenâs words keep echoing in my mind.
The right connections⦠the right leadership.
I realize that Kayden is telling me that if I donât pull this off, he will replace me as Chairman. And now, heâs casting a doubt on my capability,
Tension reels in, I can feel the weight of everybodyâs stare, even Meganâs triumphant smirk.
I think quickly but as I open my mouth, the boardroom suddenly opens and a group of gentlemen comes in.
âI sincerely apologize for being late,â an older man in his sixties say.
âMr. Gibson, how nice of you to join us,â Attorney Magnus stands up from his seat.
Mr. Gibson is accompanied by two other men, and one of them is surprisingly familiar..
âEthan?â I gasp.
Ethan doesnât say anything. Instead, he winks at me before taking his seat next to Mr. Gibson.
âThese are my nephews, Ethan Sullivan and Matthew Gibson. I kept a considerable amount of shares here because of my good friend, Gordon King. When he died, I was thinking of selling my shares. But when Ethan told me that Gordonâs granddaughter will take over, both my nephews here became keen to buy out all my shares.â
âThatâs good to hear,â Attorney Magnus nods.
Mr. Gibson stares back at me. âYou look like your grandmother, but you have your grandfatherâs eyes. I see determination and fire in you, qualities that could make⦠or break a longâstanding legacy.â
Is that another challenge?
Tension fills the room again as everybody waits for me to say something. Then suddenly, Ethan chuckles. âOh, give her a break, Unc.â
A smile breaks on Mr. Gibsonâs face. âYou donât have to worry about a thing, Miss King. You have our full support.â
I smile at them, feeling a surge of relief wash over me. I stare back at Kingâs Legendâs photo on the screen.
Itâs luxurious. In fact, too luxurious. Perhaps, with the right adjustments, I can bring the costs down, and with Ethan on my side, we can convince the right investors to inject money into this venture.

I smile confidently as I raise my chin at Kayden and tell him, âI accept your challenge, Ms. Steele. With my leadership, we will make Kingâs Legend a reality.â
âCassandra!â Attorney Magnus gasp but I nod at him reassuringly.
Kaydenâs expression remains stoic, his eyes giving nothing away. However, I detect a slight change in his attitude.
Is that respect? Perhaps even admiration?
Kayden.
âCancel all my appointments tonight,â I tell my secretary.
I
âOkay. Shall I inform Miss Brown that your evening is now free?â I raise a questioning brow at her. She instantly turns red. âI mean⦠she was trying to schedule dinner with you, Sir.â
âI wonât be available for the rest of the day. No one gets through this door, understand?â I donât wait for her to reply. I go straight to my office and slam the door behind me.
I pour myself a glass of whiskey, recalling the events that transpired this afternoon.
Cassieâ¦
She looks so different from the exâwife I remember. And yet, her scent, her warmth, the feel of her skin against mine⦠sheâs still the
same woman.
I remember how her body responded to my touch, and instantly, I feel desire reeling through me.
Damn! Even the effect she has on me is still the same!
I gave her a challenge. I didnât intend to embarrass her. I was curious how sheâll react. Whether she accepted it or not, I was going to push through with the project. I was going to offer her my help. Maybe I was creating an opportunity so we could work together.
Then that damn Sullivan entered the picture! Now, Iâm pretty sure he will benefit from the opportunity that I created.
Fuck!
Whenever I think about that guy, I feel the urge to punch something.
Who is he and what is he to her?
He canât be her husband. Iâm pretty sure she isnât married again. He canât be her fiance, either. Sheâs not sporting a rock on her finger.
So, is he just her boyfriend? A suitor? That means thereâs nothing permanent that binds him to her yet.
My phone rings, interrupting my thoughts,
âDid you check?â I ask my private investigator on the other line.
âThe report is in your desk,â he responds.

I walk over to my desk to open the sealed envelope comaining everyning there is to know a Casa Niny.
I read her credentials, her achievements over the years. She really is smart, and her portfolio is quite impressive. She isnât married
and there are no records of marriage except forâ¦.
Just then a piece of paper falls to the floor. I bend to pick it up. I flip it and see that itâs a photograph of Cassie. And on her lap sits a beautiful boy who looks nothing like her. And yet, the tender way she looks at him makes it certain that the boy is her son.
A wave of emotions crashes over me. My chest tightens and I feel like my heart is breaking. Then suddenly anger simmers within
me as questions race my mind.
Who is this child?
And more importantlyâ¦.
Who is
Who is the father?
