âAre you all set?â Lyn asks. âAre you sure you donât want me to come?â
I shake my head. âIâve asked you for too many favors already, Lyn. And if I have one more favor to a day, it would be for you to stay here and look after Kai.
If he happens
Yesterday, we were at the hospital because Alberte came in to have himself tested. Things are looki to be Kaiâs match, we could be having the transplant before the end of the month. I wouldnât have
out losing my
son too soon.
Right now, my grandmother has asked if she can spend some time with Kai. If I didnât have to shoden Steele and the rest of his team to the new location of Kingâs Legend, I would love to stay a few days with grandmother too
âSo, who am I meeting today?â
âYou mean besides Kayden?â
1 nod..
âHeâll be coming with his assistant, of course,â Lyn replies, looking at her iPad. âAnd one of the Garavillo and his wife also confirmed that they will join you, as well as Mister Gibson and his

resort.
Lyn shrugs. âSince weâve extended the invitation of the site visit to every member of the board and offered to pan for their one-night accommodations, some of the board members thought it would be a good idea to s Speaking of which, be prepared that Megan will also come with Mister Steele.â
I feel a knot in my stomach. âDid she confirm?â
Lyn shakes her head. âBut she can always come as Kaydenâs plus one.â
Thatâs right! Megan is engaged to Kayden, after all.
I donât get that man, Kayden Steelel He said he wants me back, but then he knocks up my sister an What is his game? And even though I couldnât admit it to myself I did almost fall for his ploy.
But not anymore!
I will never fall for Kayden Steeleâs tricks anymore! And even though she actually deserves it, a part of me does feel sorry for Megan. Sheâs engaged to a man whoâs actually playing her for a fool.
Lynâs phone beeps. Then I hear her gasp when she reads a message.
âWhatâs wrong?â
âD*mn it!â she groans.
Why?
âYour driver canceled on us! Now, what are we going to do? Itâs such a short notice now!â

âItâs too far. A taxi wonât be comfortable.â
Lyn dials some numbers and tries to make some calls. However, from the look on her face, I think sh

Just then, a sportscar revs from afar and stops in front of us. The sleek vehicle gleams under the sun, y breath catches: as the driverâs door swings open. Kayden steps out, wearing a cream turtleneck and a sleek pair of glasses.
âHi,â he greets me. âI thought youâre on your way to the island location.â
âWell, weâre just waiting for our driver,â I reply dryly. I cannot help but notice that heâs algalone. I w went ahead.
Tegan already
âActuallyâ¦..â Lyn eyes me nervously. âI canât book anyone. Apparently, the resort is too far from the city proper. Itâs not very populated. No one wants to make the empty trip back.â
âBut weâll pay them for the trip back, too. Letâs pay them double
âI already offered that buâ¦.â she shakes her head.
âWell⦠you can always ride with me,â Kayden interrupts us.
âWhat?!â Lyn and.I say in unison.
No way!â I protest. âIâm not doing that!â
âWhy not?â he asks. âWeâre both headed towards the same direction. And I have an empty seat. Itâs going to be long ride to make alone. Do you have any reason why you donât want to ride with me?â
âI donât need a reason for that! I just donât want to ride with you I snap.
âDo you have any other alternative?â He turns to Lyn, who merely shakes her head. âIt seems ill you not to accept my offer.â He looks at his wristwatch. âI think we better leave now if we want t weather doesnât look too good.â
I look up at the skies.
The clouds rolled in ominously, casting a shadow over the once bright day. I feel a pang of uncertainty as I glance Kaydenâs car, then back at Lyn who seems equally torn.
Lyn gives me a pleading look, silently urging me to reconsider.
I groan. âFine!â

âBut right now, we donât seem to have a choice,â Lyn says sadly. Donât worry. Itâs only an hourâs drive. After that, youâll be on the island with the other shareholders. You just need to endure one-hour ride with him.â
As much as I try to avoid it, it does not seem like we have choice
âTake care of yourself. Iâll have a driver pick you tomorrow.â
Kayden holds the passenger door open for me.
âMademoiselle, Kayden grins. He really looks like heâs enjoying himself.
A few minutes later, Kayden starts driving. I stare back at him, he looks rather chirpy, like none of thrs him at all.
âWhat were you doing at Kingâs Court?â
He shrugs. âI just happened to pass by and then I saw you waiting up front. Itâs a good thing I stopped by to say hi. Otherwise, youâd find yourself in a fickle. Mister Garavillo does not want to be kept waiting.â He says with a smirk on his face.
I lean back in the passenger seat, crossing my arms over my chest. The car ride begins in silence.
How am I going to endure an hourâs drive with Kayden Steele?
