Cassie.
âKayden?â I call out but thereâs no response.
Did he go back to sleep in the living room?
Did he change his mind about making up for our failed marriage?
Was it all just a ploy?
I gather my robe and then I walk over to the window.
The wind howls outside, the sound of the storm raging against the windowpanes fill the silence of the room. The dark clouds gather in the sky, casting an ominous shadow over the landscape. Rain lashes against the glass, creating a mesmerizing dance of water droplets.
I look at the clock on the wall, and it reads seven. But outside, it looks like itâs only four in the morning.
I walk to the living room, hoping to see Kayden there, but heâs not there either.
Where the hell is he? He couldnât have gone home in this weather.
Just then a delicious smell wafts through the room, a tantalizing mix of spices and herbs that immediately awakens my senses. It pulls me towards the source like a moth to a flame. As I step into the kitchen, my eyes widen in surprise.
There, standing in front of the stove is Kayden. He is topless, save for the apron that he is wearing over his pajama pants. The flickering flames beneath the pans cast a warm glow on his features, accentuating his chiseled jawline and intense expression.
He doesnât notice me approaching. He seems quite focused on what heâs cooking. I sit on the bar stool in the kitchen counter, watching him with fascination.
Thereâs an air of confidence in his movements, a fluidity that tells of familiarity and skill. This isnât his first time cooking in the kitchen.
Finally, he notices me, and the serious expression on his face is replaced with a wide smile, and a twinkle in his
âHey there,â he greets me chirpily. âI didnât realize you were already up.â
âI thought you left me all alone here.â
eye.
He walks towards me, drawing his brows together. âWhy would I do that? Iâm trying to score points with my wife, remember?â He leans forward and kisses me on the lips. âGive me five minutes, and breakfast will be ready.â
âDo you need my help?â
He shakes his head. âJust stay where you are.â
He goes back to the stove and continues cooking.
âI didnât know that the great Kayden Steele would know his way around the kitchen.â

Chapter 61
âWell, when I was in college, lived alone. I had to learn to survive on my own.â
âReally? Your butler didnât go to college with you?â I tease.
+5
âVery funny,â he chuckles. âContrary to your belief, I actually lived on my own in college and the years after that. No maids. No butlers. No bodyguards.â
âWell, you certainly look comfortable there.â
âCooking was one of my favorite things to do. I donât always get to use it because Iâm busier with corporate stuff. So, forgive me if my cooking skills is a bit rusty. I know youâre pretty good in the kitchen as well.â
âHey, you remember!â
âI never forgot.â He gives me a meaningful glance. âThere are many things about you that I never forgot.â
âSeriously, like?â
about my suits or my clothes not
He shrugs. âLike you are very organized. And when we were married, I never had to worry being well-coordinated. Youâre sweet and thoughtful. You leave sweet notes to remind me of stuff and stick them on post-its on my walk-in closet mirrors.â
âYou read those?â I ask in surprise. Itâs been so many years. I have forgotten all about them.
âEach and everyone of them. Theyâre sweet. Many times, they made me laugh.â
âEven the corny jokes?â
âEspecially those. I actually looked forward to reading them each day. And when you left⦠I realized I will never get any more of those. It⦠made me feel sad.â I can hear the sadness in his voice.
âI always thought it was a corny little thing to do. But when we were married, you were always away on business travels, or you stay out late for your meetings, I barely got to see you. Those sticky notes I wrote was some sort of one-way communication from me to you. I had no idea whether you will read them.â
âI do,â he says. âAnd itâs one of the many things I missed about you.â
âWhat else did you miss?â
âYour cooking, of course. Iâve eaten in
any restaurants around the world. But your beef medallions, stroganoff, garlic prawns are still the best Iâve had so far. And I missed them, as much as I missed you.â
He gives me a smile. But that smile does not touch his eyes. I knew then that heâs telling the truth.
Kayden serves a feast of breakfast fit for a queen. There are pancakes topped with berries and whipped cream, crispy curls, and cheese omelet.
âWould you like coffee, tea or juice, maâam?â he asks, his eyes dancing.
âCoffee will do.â
I take a bite of the omelet as Kayden pours me a cup of coffee,
bacon
I savor the rich flavors that dance on my tongue. The cheese in the omelet is perfectly melted, and the eggs are fluffy and light. The bacon is just the right amount of crispy, adding a savory crunch to every bite. I canât help but close my eyes in

satisfaction as I taste the delicious meal Kayden has prepared
As I open my eyes, I catch Kayden watching me intently, a soft tile playing on his lips.
âIs it to your liking?â he asks me.
âWow!â I beam at him. âI didnât know you could cook.â
âYou should know by now, that when I set my mind on something I make sure to do it with precision and excellent âArenât you smug?â I giggle at his bold statement, feeling a warrn flutter in my chest as I meet his gaze
Leaning in closer, he brushes a stray lock of hair from my face, his touch sending shivers town my spine. The scent of its cologne envelops me, familiar yet intoxicating, igniting a fire that has never quite died down since last nig
Without warning, Kaydenâs lips meet mine in a tender yet passionate kiss, igniting a spark that blazes into an infero. He pulls me to him, opening up my thighs so he can step in between them. He wound his arms around my waist.
His mouth leaves mine as he leaves a trail of kisses to my neck.
âKayden.â I moan.
âD*mn it, Cassie!â he curses softly. âI canât control myself around you.â
Kayd*nâs touch is electric. His hands roam over my body with a confident familiarity, knowing just where to touch to send me spiraling into ecstasy. The taste of him on my lips is intoxicating, a heady blend of coffee and his own unique faver fat canât get enough of
I can feel the pulsating desire between us, a magnetic pull that neither of us can resist
He lifts me up from the chair, cupping my butt cheeks, and making me wrap my legs around his waist. I feel his rock hard erection against my core, making me moan in ecstasy. He walks towards the living room, dropping me on the couch.
When I look into his eyes, I can barely recognize him. His eyes is heavy with desire. I can feel my heart pounding wildy inside my chest as my breathing becomes shallow. My entire body responds to the raw lust that Kayden is unleashing
âKaydenâ¦â I breathe. âPlease!â
âPlease what, love?â he asks.
He stops kissing me, stops touching me. Instead he looks at me, expecting an answer. And I know that he wonât give it to me unless I ask him for it.
I pull him to me, so I can whisper in his ear. âPlease.. f*ck me!â
