Chapter 23
Divorce
Chapter 23
Angela pressed her lips. âLetâs talk about why did you reveal our secret marriage to everyone at the party.
Thankfully, the guests were all acquaintances of the Lewis family. She could pull some strings, and the fact that she and Kenneth had been secretly married for three years wouldnât become widely known.
Kenneth remained silent for a few seconds, anger brewing in his mind. âAngela, donât forget, if I hadnât helped you, the whole thing could have been out of controlâ
Angela laughed briefly, her eyes devoid of emotion
didnât ask for your help. You took it upon yourself, and your actions have only caused me troubleâ
Kennethâs face turned sullen, looking at Angela with a sense of irony.
âWhat trouble? Are you afraid you canât find your next boyfriend after this?â
Angela furrowed her brows. âDo you always have to speak so harshly?â
âThe truth is often unpleasant
âKenneth, I donât want to make things hard. What will it take for you to agree to a divorce?â
Kenneth suddenly stood up, looking down at Angela, emphasizing each word. âTve said it before. I wonât agree to a divorce. You should give up on that idear
Angela took a deep breath, suppressing her anger, and tried to remain calm. âIf you donât want a divorce, there must be a reason. My reason is that I donât love you anymore, and I donât want to continue a marriage without love.
Somehow, the thought of not being a part of Angelaâs future plans frustrated Kenneth much.
He looked at Angela coldly. âYou chose this marriage, and now itâs not up to you to end it
Seeing Kenneth leaving, Angela clenched her teeth and said, âIf you disagree. Iâll talk to your grandmother about this myself?â
âYou wouldnât dare!!
Kennethâs voice was full of anger, staring at Angela as if he could eat her alive.
âBut Angela wasnât intimidated by the threat in his eyes. She met his gaze fearlessly. âIf you want to keep this up, Iâll have no choice but to ask Beatrice to make you agree to the divorce!â
Kenneth stared at her fiercely and scoffed, âThen try it and see if I agree
After he left, Angela was seething with frustration. It was just a matter of signing a paper. She couldnât figure out why Kenneth just wouldnât agree. Suddenly, her phone on the table rang.
Brendaâs voice came through as soon as the call was connected. âAngie, where did you go! I just had a call with my mom, and you were gone when I came back. People are still whispering about you and Kenneth being married. Did you guys go public?â
Angelaâs grip on her phone tightened subconsciously, her fingers turning pale. It took her a while before she hummed in response.
âWhatâs going on? Werenât you guys getting a divorce!â
âTil explain another day. Iâm a bit tired. Letâs leave it at that.
After hanging up, Angela sat on the sofa for a while longer before returning to her bedroom.
In the study, Kenneth was on the phone with Kevin
âMr. Sinclair, Iâve looked into it. Debra was the one behind tonightâs incid
She has returned to the country recently and has never interacted with Ms. Angela Lewis, so it might be Jennifer who was the mastermindâ
iâs incident. Debra was a close friend of Ms. Jennifer Lewis when she was abroad.
Kennethâs face turned sullen, and he said, âSend what youâve found to my phone.â
âMight away!â
After receiving a notification in his inbox, Kenneth sternly opened the message and checked it.

He sent a message to Kevin, instructing him to erase all traces. Only then did he call Jennifer.
When the call was connected, Jennifer remained silent for a few seconds before saying, âKenneth, I thought you didnât want anything to do with
Why are you calling me now?â
âAbout the video, is it related to you in any way!
Jenniferâs breathing became noticeably heavier, and she retorted, âAre you suspecting me?
Kenneth said indifferently. Just answer my question.â
âNot Even if Angela is at fault, sheâs still I my sister. How could I possibly harm her?â
Upon hearing this, Kenneth narrowed his eyes and spoke in a stern tone. âIâve already looked into this matter. It seems Debra is responsible by far, but if I dig deeper, I can find more than you think. Iâll give you one more chance. Does this have anything to do with you?â
Jennifer was intimidated by Kennethâs stern tone. It took a while before she responded, âYes, it was me. Iâm sick of seeing you with her. It should be me by your side!
Iâm jealous of her, so jealous that I almost lost my mind! Thatâs why I did it! You think Iâm a joke, right?â
Kennethâs lips were tightly pressed together as he replied, âIâll let it go this time. Donât play these pointless tricks again. goodwill for you!â
After hanging up the phone, Kenneth was filled with irritation.
It seemed he needed to accelerate the acquisition of Empyria Group. Once he handed Empyria Group over to Jennifer, he wouldnât give her any more chances to get close to him
The next morning, as soon as Angela got out of bed, she received a call from Paul.
âAngela, have you gotten up?â
Sensing the cautious tone in Paulâs voice, Angela frowned, âWhatâs up?â
Paul cleared his throat before speaking. âWe didnât get a chance to sit down together at your grandfatherâs birthday party yesterday. Today, your grandpa and grandma have instructed the kitchen to prepare your favorite dishes. Why donât you come over this evening for dinner?â
Angela finally understood why Paulâs attitude towards her had changed, but she knew she would fail their expectations
Let aside her poor relationship with Kenneth. Even if they were on good terms, she wouldnât ask Kenneth to help the Lewis family.
âNo need. Iâm quite busy and might not be able to make it
âI thought you are a fullâtime housewife now. How could you be busy!â
âIâve gotten a job now, I have to go to work if thereâs nothing else,â she said.
Paul was stunned, only coming to his senses when he heard the busy tone on the phone.
Karen looked displeased, and she curled her lips. âHow is it? Did she agree to come over?â
Paul shook his head. âShe said sheâs got a job and canât make itâ
Karen scoffed, âWhat kind of decent job could she possibly get? Itâs probably just washing dishes in some diner! If thatâs the case, you should tell her to quit early and save the Lewis family from embarrassment!â
Paul looked coldly at Karen, his eyes devoid of emotion. âAngela is Kennethâs wife, after all. Thatâs totally nonsense.â
âIf Kenneth hadnât been disabled after that accident, do you think we would let a woman who didnât even finish high school be Kennethâs wife?â
Angela had dropped out of high school and suddenly disappeared for a while. When she returned, she never mentioned going back to school.
In the Lewis family, Angela had the lowest level of education, and Andrea often mocked about it. Karen always felt embarrassed by this. If it werenât for Jenniferâs satisfactory performance, Karen couldnât imagine what else Andrea would ridicule them for.
*Karen! I warn you, Î Î matter what, Angela is still your biological daughter!â
âI have no such daughter! In my eyes, Jennie is the only daughter I have!â
With that. Karen turned and walked away.
Paul watched Karenâs retreating figure, feeling a headache coming on.

He dialed his assistantâs number. âFind out where Angela is working
At 10 a.m., Frank glared at Angela in the topâfloor conference room of Empyria Group, slamming a stack of documents on the table. He said coldly, âMs. Lewis, my department is now practically empty. All the old staff have been laid off, and the new hires havenât yet come on board. Our operations have almost collapsed!
âSeveral partners are urging for products, and my team has been working overtime late into midnight for over a week. Just in the last few days, some employees were overwhelmed by the workload and came to me with resignation letters!
âYouâre responsible for this mess, so shouldnât you offer a solution!â
