Chapter Twenty-Five: Confused
CLASSY MOTHERF*****S.
"But you said you'd show me around." I pouted as I walk towards the kitchen counter, wearing nothing but Luke's button up from last night.
"I know, Babe but, I have work to do, This is like the first time ever this year of me being back here in Australia. The company needs their boss, right? I've always run the company whilst I was in Rosewood. I never got to visit the actual work place. Besides, I'll make it up to you tonight, and Australia is definitely better at night!" He winked as he grab an apple and a bottle of water in the fridge. "Make sure you go to your appointment later, I left the directions on a piece of paper underneath that cactus plant on that damned coffee table." He exclaimed leaning down to kiss me on my lips. "Take a cab, okay?"
I nodded being the obedient child I am.
After what seemed like a blink of an eye, Luke disappeared out of the door leaving me all alone here inside the flat.
I skipped my way towards the staircase.
I grabbed the piece of paper that was underneath the small plant pot and read it to myself.
Dr. Mary Chapman - OB Gynecologist / Pediatrician
1:30-2:30 PM appointment
Rm. 098 3rd floor. Chapman Clinic
Block. 11 Lot. 3, West of Sydney.
I looked at the time and it was 9 in the morning.
I guess I should start preparing.
I made my way towards the bathroom and took a quick shower.
I changed to comfortable clothes, some boyfriend jeans and a white shirt.
I didn't bother dressing up since its only a trip to the hospital. No point in wearing heels and a dress.
I grabbed some shoes to wear and made my way back to the bedroom. Staring at myself at the vanity mirror, I grabbed my make up kit and settled it on the table provided. I applied some mineral powder on my skin and a little pink blush on. Applied a little mascara on my eyelashes and some cherry Chap-stick on my lips.
I tied my hair to a high ponytail and made my way downstairs.
I was halfway down the staircase when I heard something vibrating.
"Shit!" I cursed under my breath.
I ran back up towards the side table drawer to grab my phone.
I have an incoming call and at least 47 messages and 21 missed calls.
It was Kate.
Fuck! Fuck it!
I shake both of my hands, panic rushing in my body, I can feel my skin heat up.
I hesitated but I answered the call.
"H-hello?" I stammered.
"Fuck! Finally? Where are you? Lisa is going all ballistic trying to find you! Are you okay?" My sister's voice was loud but she felt relied once she heard me.
"Yeah..yeah, I'm fine. I'm just-taking time for myself." I bit my lower lip. My voice was shaking.
"But where are you? When are you coming back? Tell me you did not runaway to avoid the wedding of the century?!" She bombarded me with questions.
"I'm in Australia, Kate. Don't tell our mother. I'm not coming back. And yes, this is the only option I figured out." I shut my eyes closed.
"Are you crazy?! Don't tell me you're not with Luke, please, please-"
"I'm with him and you have nothing to worry about. Just don't tell Lisa where I am. At least not this soon. You know I don't want to get married, Kate." I begged.
"Aren't you causing more trouble than you are already in? Are you forgetting that you're with a married man?!" She freaked.
"He's not married anymore." I answered bluntly.
"What do you mean?"
"They already filed a divorce. Its all done."
"But aren't you taking this too fast I mean you guys just-"
"Kate, stop. I know what I'm doing. I'm old enough to do my own decisions okay? You need to calm down. Trust me on this. Now, promise me that you're not going to tell anyone where I am."
"I promise."
"Calum, the guy I was supposed to marry knows about this plan so don't be too shocked if-"
"Wait he does?" She's freaking out again.
"Kate-" I sighed my voice stern.
"Right, sorry."
"Anyways, I have to go. I'll call you soon, alright?"
"Yeah, bye." And just like that she ended the call.
I checked my inbox and 44 of them was messages from Kate, asking me where the hell on earth I am and reminding me that mother is so close to killing me once she finds me, 3 messages were from Calum, asking me where I am and if I was okay and he's hoping I'd contact him as soon as I can. He also told me that my mother is going all crazy that I'm missing.
19 missed calls from Kate and 2 from Calum.
This time with no hesitation, I dialed Calum's number, after a few rings he answered.
"Cal, its me!" I started.
"Jesus Christ. Where are you? You have no idea what the fuck is happening in here!" He whispered thru the other line.
"I'm far away from there, I better not tell you so if they ask you, you wouldn't feel guilty about lying for me and why the hell are you whispering?"
"I'm at your house, my whole family is. Your mother wouldn't stop crying, there are police searching for you everywhere!"
"They should give up. There is no way they're going to find me."
"I hope so. Look, I gotta go but keep in touch." He ended the call.
I groaned in frustration.
My mother is fucking crazy, why does she have to call out search parties for me? I swear to god that woman loves causing too much scene.
Stop worrying, Tatum. You're far away now. Let them look for you. They will never find you anyway.
I sighed, I should be preparing breakfast for myself and hailing a cab for my appointment rather than thinking about the people I'm running away from.
From now on, I'm only going to focus on the future I want to happen.
I sighed as I make my way to the kitchen. Opening the fridge and rummaging it through to find whatever is edible for my taste.
I grabbed some sliced ham and cheese.
I guess a ham and cheese sandwich will make me feel contented.
After pouring myself a glass of orange juice and finishing my food I loaded the dishwasher.
I locked the door behind me before pressing the elevator button.
Once the bell made its familiar sound, the elevator door opened. Just a few moments I was descending and was hailing a cab.
Once I got in the cab I gave the driver the address and let him do the driving.
"You're not from here are you, Miss?" The cab driver exclaimed.
"Uh-why'd you say so?"
"You don't look like you're from around here, did you just move or you in a vacation?"
"I'm from Ro-I mean I'm from the US. I just got here last night, yeah I just moved in."
"How do you find Sydney so far?" He asked, looking at me every now and then at the rear view window.
"This is the first time I'm going out and its not pretty bad. I like the weather its not too humid." I stare at the window. Australia looks fun, the sun is at high, the people looked friendly, nobody knew who I was.
I could start fresh if I wanted to.
The rest of the cab ride was silent, nothing but the stereo making a sound.
After a few more minutes, and loads of stop lights I arrived a tall building that has a huge signage.
Chapman Clinic.
"Excuse me, ma'am. Do you have an appointment?" A girl with a blond hair asked. She was wearing a Mickey Mouse scrub and looked too friendly. She was behind the front desk.
I nodded as I look at the time on my wrist watch. It was 1:17.
"Oh you must be Doctor's 1:30 appointment." She smiled at the chart board she was holding as I approach her table. "Please take the elevator to the left and go on the third floor. Its room 098, you'll see it on the end of the hallway." She smiled and I followed her instruction.
After a few more minutes I found myself knocking on Rm. 098.
I slightly opened the door and poked my head.
Immediately a middle aged lady, probably around her mid 50's. She was wearing casual clothes beneath her lab coat. There was a stethoscope around her neck and she was giving me a heartwarming smile.
"You must be, Tatum Beck." She exclaimed ushering me inside her office.
I nodded, "Yes, ma'am."
She suddenly laughed, "Please, just call me Mary. You don't have to be too formal. I like being friends with my patients."
"Okay." I smiled, seating on the chair provided across her table.
"So, what seems to be the problem?" She asks.
"I just..need your help with something, regarding.. contraception."
She nodded, "I see. How old are you?"
"Im 18."
"Are you sexually active?"
"Uh..pardon me?" I felt my palms getting sort of sweaty.
"Do you have sex every now and then? Because I need to know."
"Uh-yes."
"I see. So, you and your husband are not yet planning to have a child?"
I furrow my brows at her when she said the word husband.
"Boyfriend and yes-" I trailed off, "I guess you can say that."
"Alright. I just needed to know so I know what to give you." She smiled before standing up from her seat and went towards the other room which only has a printed curtain as a door.
She went back holding an orange canister and typed something on her computer. After a few seconds her printer started printing some kind of sticker, after that she sticked it on the side of the canister. There was small white round pills in it.
"When was your last menstruation day?" She asked.
"Three weeks ago." I mumbled feeling awkward around every question that she asks.
"You can start drinking your pills tonight. But I must warn you..if you start drinking those, your menstruation will stop for as long as you drink it. Only take it once a day, before you sleep."
"I uh-have a question-"
"What is it?"
"If I..if we decide that we want to have a child, what do I have to do?"
"Its hard to have a child if you have used contraceptives, it may take years of trying and more medical help. To be honest, I am really against them for their side effects but what can I do? If you and your husband want to have a child and you using these pills is just a phase then I suggest that you don't drink it and you guys should stick to using a condom."
"I understand." I gave her a slight smile.
After a few this and that, our appointment ended and the pills were in my bag.
I was outside of the building, trying to hail a cab when my phone started ringing.
It was Luke.
I answered it.
"How was the doctor's appointment, Miss Beck?"
