The New Job

The Billionaire of New York City

One of the highest buildings in New York stared down at me. The place where it might just be the home of my next job. I just had to make it through this interview with ease. And maybe, just maybe I wouldn't have to move back to Chicago with my family because I can't afford rent here. I exhale a shaky breath and head in.

"Please take a seat, miss. Mr. Carter will get you when he is ready."

The blonde haired woman gave a quick smile and turned back to her office. I took a seat facing the double doors I assumed Mr. Carter was in. I rubbed my sweaty palms against my thighs. The black skirt only came so far down. Mid-thigh. Enough to look professional. I looked down at the ground until I heard the door in front of me open.

My gaze fell upon Mr. Carter. His black suit snugged his body perfectly. I could see the muscles underneath the suit. His dark brown hair was styled in a coiffed haircut. He was a very handsome man. And just the thought of me working for him excited me.

"Kyla Owens, I presume," he questioned. My confidence level for some reason took a turn. A really good turn. I stood up and nodded. "Yes sir."

He smiled and gestured me to follow. I entered his office. It was clean. Windows were everywhere. I could see the other building of New York stand tall just like this one. He sat down at his desk with his back facing the windows. Two black leather chairs sat in the front. I took a seat on the left one.

"So," he exhaled and folded his hands together and laid them on the desk. "You want a job here," he continued,"why?"

For the next several minutes I carried on saying I have the experience and that this job is a lot closer than my old one. I also avoided the fact that I was in desperate need of one. The thought didn't seem too important. Throughout the interview I answered all questions as truthfully as possible and without stuttering.

"Well Miss Owens, that's all I need from you. You did great. And I will be contacting you in the near future. "

He stood up and reached his hand out, awaiting a handshake. I stood up and met his hand with my own. His hands felt soft, surprisingly. I thought they would feel rough of some sort. But I'm glad they didn't.

"We have your number Miss Owens so don't worry."

He gave a comforting smile and led me to the door. He opened the door with his left arm while his body stayed in the room.

"Good meeting you, Miss. Take care."

"You too, Mr. Carter. "

I walked past him and into the waiting room. Before heading out and into the elevator I turned around. He was staring at me. He looked into my eyes and then looked back down. And just before he turned around I could see him smile. I could feel my cheeks turn red. I quickly set off into the elevator and back home to my apartment.
