Chapter 13

Start of A Problem

The Billionaire of New York City

"Kyla?"

The husky voice made me jolt awake. Elijah's hand was on my shoulder. I looked around and saw that I was still in my office, with papers scattered everywhere. The sunrise showed through the many windows into my office.

"Oh. Hi, sir." I rubbed my eyes and quickly attempted to tame my hair.

Elijah left my desk and sat down on the couch, resting his legs on the coffee table. "You can call me Elijah. Being as you know it now." He chuckled as he rubbed his hands together.

"Oh well okay."

"You fell asleep huh? Did you finish what I asked you to do?" He questioned.

Anxiety flowed through my soul. At times he was very imitating. This was one of them.

"Well since I, uh, fell asleep, I never did finish..." My voice became small. I looked down in shame. Awaiting a lecture.

"It is eleven a.m. on a Saturday, you have until five Sunday night. Okay?" Elijah looked at me awaiting my assurance.

"Okay," I replied. "Elijah."

"Good. Well go home and rest up and either come back today or tomorrow."

"Okay."

As I gathered my stuff, silence hung in the hair. It was on the edge of entering the comfortable silence, but it wasn't there quite yet.

Elijah stood up from the couch and opened the door. "Please, let me walk you to your car."

A bit flustered I responded. "Oh no, you don't have to do that."

His dark brown eyes gazed into my eyes. I could see hints of lust.

"I insist."

I nodded and he followed him into the elevator. Again there was a silence. It was clinging to be labeled as comfortable silence, but something was missing. As we entered the parking garage, we switched roles. I lead the way and he followed.

Once my car was in view, I took out my keys from my pocket and unlocked it.

Elijah rushed ahead of me and opened the door, "Here you go." His face spread into a small smile. It looked sincere or he could just be an extremely good actor.

I returned the smile and sat down in my car. As I reached for the seatbelt a hand grasped my wrist.

Elijah chuckled. "No, let me get that too."

"Okay."

He gently let go of my wrist and grabbed the seatbelt. He slowly pulled it down and across my body. As he passed my stomach, he went slightly lower and I swear he slowed down.

He buckled it and his hand rested there for a second before retrieving it back out of the car.

"Stay safe, Kyla."

I smiled at him,"Of course."

--------

"Done." After two more hours of working on the unfinished assignment, I finally got it done.

I decided to work it at home where I had the pleasure of watching tv at the same time. Throughout the day I had sent many texts to Kate, but there was no reply.

Maybe she was having a bad day, I continuously thought.

I decided it was time to give Kate a call.

The phone buzzed two times before a hello came through.

"Hey Kate, it's me, Kyla!"

"Oh, what do you want?"

"You haven't been replying to my texts."

"Yeah I know," she replied vaguely.

"Why," I asked, worried.

Kate didn't reply. Instead, she just hung up. Deciding not to anger her more, I gave up and didn't try to contact her again.

I kept telling myself she was just having a bad day, but I knew that wasn't the truth.
