The Night
The Billionaire of New York City
"Kyla." The sound of his voice made me stop dead in my tracks. Without turning I muttered, "Yes, sir?"
I heard his footsteps closing in on me until his body heat was radiating onto my back.
"When you," he gently yet forcefully gripped my wrist and made me turn around," are speaking to me, you look at me."
I nodded. "Sir, I need to leave now."
"No."
I studied his face, only annoyance showing. And soon only anger showed on mine.
"And why not? I have personal matters to attend to."
"Like a date?"
"Exactly." I yanked my wrist away from him and stared intently into his eyes. He raised his eyebrows at the sudden confidence I had shown.
He fixed his suit and ran his hand through his hair. Clearing his throat he replied," You're dismissed."
I took his words as my queue to leave so I quickly turned around and entered the elevator. As the doors closed I let my head hang down but I swear I could feel eyes on me.
__________
I exited the building and saw ahead, Jared leaning against what must be his truck. He immediately noticed me and waved his hand with a big smile on his face.
I returned the smile and made my way to his truck. He gave me a quick hug but after we released his hand lingered on my lower back.
I tilted my head to look at him. He had a goofy smile on his face. "So where are we going?"
"It's a surprise."
"Mmm fine." He gently squeezed my back with his hand. "Ready?"
"Ready."
________
We ended up going through a fast food drive thru before heading to a small park. It seemed as if we were the only ones there. The whole date consisted of us eating, watching the sunset, and just chatting away. I got to know him more and he was really appealing to me.
He had me home at 9:30. He gave me a goodbye kiss before leaving and said he would call me. Which I really hope he would but even though Elijah still lingered in the back of my mind.
_______
I grabbed my blanket and snuggled up more against it. Saturday afternoons were perfect for just staying home and relaxing. I heard my phone buzz. I glanced on the coffee table and saw its screen lit up. A message from Kate.
Hey, remember those people we met at the Christmas Party (AKA Noah, Emma, Michael & Daniel)??
I quickly replied. This was her first time texting me in a week. Yeah, why?
She replied only a minute later. Well since neither of us has work, including you, we thought we would go to a club tonight. Wanna come?
I debated whether or not I wanted to stay home but I made the decision I needed to get out. Yeah okay.
We will pick you up at 9:30ish.
I turned off my phone and decided to binge watch a tv show for awhile before I got ready. As I finished my fifth episode of Breaking Bad, I glanced at the time on my phone. 6:59
I chose to get something to eat before getting ready. Top Ramen.
After I finished eating the noodle goodness, I turned on some music on the tv and made my way to my bathroom. I undressed and entered the shower. After I exited the shower, I wrapped a towel around my body and began to do my makeup. Like usual, I did a natural look.
Once my makeup was finished I blow dried my hair and fixed it into my classic messy bun. I dug through my bathroom drawers until I found a pair of black earrings.
I sifted through my closet, looking for a dress. Ever since Elijah made his remark about red looking good on me, the majority of my wardrobe is nothing but red. I selected a short red dress that I thought would go with my black heels.
(This isn't what she looks like, but it's your imagination so whatever)
Once I was fully dressed and ready, it was. 9:30.
I heard a faint knock on my door. I opened it to see Kate. Her blonder hair was down and she once again had her smoky eye makeup on. She wore a blue strapless short dress, with white high heels.
"Hey, Kayla."
A smile formed on my face. It was good hearing her voice again. "Hey, Kate."
"Listen, I just want to say I'm sorry. It was-"
"It's okay," I interrupted. I didn't need apologies, I didn't want tonight to get mushy.
Kate smiled and gestured for me to follow.
__________
The club was packed, we were lucky enough to get in. We had been there for about 10 minutes before each of us how downed three shots of vodka. Everyone on the dance floor kept bumping into one another but it was still fun. I was in between Noah and Emma when I stated I was going to get another drink.
I stumbled the whole entire time on my way over there and almost tripping on my feet. I arrived at the bar almost knocking down a glass as I ordered two shots of tequila. Both for me. As I waited for my drink, I heard someone sit next to me. Not bothering to see what kind of creep it was, I focused my attention on the bartender who was now filling my order.
"That's still not red." The familiar voice made me freeze. My heart started to hammer. Even before looking, I knew who it was.
I didn't want him seeing me like this. Even though he has seen me drunk but nothing like this. It was too late to leave. I turned my head to see Elijah sitting on the bar stool with a beer in his hand looking at me.
I could tell by looking at him, he was drunk. Maybe not as drunk as me but he sure as hell wasn't sober.
The two shots I had ordered were placed between Elijah and me.
"Want one?" My words slurred together but in my drunk state, I could care less. He nodded.
We each took one in our hand and clanked them together. The liquid burned my throat but the warm feeling it gave me was worth it. Elijah closed the space in between us. His hand reached up and tucked a stray hair behind my ear. His hand lingered there for a moment before resting it gently on my hip.
"Wanna dance," he asked.
"Will it be like last time?" I joked.
A smirk spread across his face. "Nope."
A feeling of disappointment flooded through me but not for long. His next words without a doubt sparked my curiosity.
"The difference is, we aren't just gonna stop at the dancing."
