Monday
The Billionaire of New York City
I still do not understand why you like this because the storyline is completely wack, but I will carry on.
Monday is the most dreaded day of the week. No one wants to go to school or work, not even get out of bed. But I was lucky enough to be blessed by the absence of my boss, Elijah.
I noticed I was less stressed during the day than when he was here. I started hoping for more days like this.
*Ding Ding*
I clicked on the tab showing I had a new email.
Dear Ms. Owens,
Mr. Carter's absence has complicated the delivery of important, classified, documents. As Mr. Carter's personal assistant, I need you to collect the documents from Mr. Carter's office, make sure they are signed, and mail them out. I have attached the mailing address. If you complete this task you will earn a $20 dollar raise.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Kennick
I could definitely use a $20 raise. I clicked on"reply" and sent back an email.
Dear Mrs. Kennick,
I will be pleased to complete this task and I will notify you when I finish. Have a good day!
Sincerely, Ms. Owens
I sent the email and stood up from my desk and made my way to Elijah's office. On my way across the hallway, I waved to Kate who was playing on her phone.
I walked into his office and automatically felt a breeze of cool air. His office smelled faintly like his own scent, which I couldn't deny, made me feel warm inside. I walked over to his desk and there was only one folder laid neatly in the left corner. I grabbed it and flipped it over. It had a stamp saying 'Confidential'.
I chuckled to myself. Not anymore.
I opened it and on the first page was a checklist. It listed each page that needed to be signed and had a check next to each page number. Just to be sure, I briefly went to each page that needed to be signed to make sure they were signed. Once I was satisfied that they all were, I slide the papers back into the folder and turned around.
Wait, I thought. Where are these supposed to go?
I opened the folder and briefly surfed through the pages looking for an address but I couldn't find one. I sat down at Elijah's desk and picked up the phone, dialing Mrs. Kennick's extension.
It only rang once before she picked up.
"Mr. Carter, I thought you were gone today. How may I help you?" She spoke in a very professional manner, it felt good to be spoken to like this even though it wasn't for me.
"Mrs. Kennick, it's me, Ms. Owens."
"Oh, hello. What do you need?"
"I couldn't find an address to mail the documents to."
"Oh," she paused for a moment before continuing. "Let me see if I can find it, give me a moment please."
"Of course." As I waited I got more impatient and began fiddling with things on Elijah's desk. Then once I got bored of that, I opened the top center drawer of his desk. It was the neatest thing I had ever seen in my life. Every single pen, pencil, highlighter, and marker was in a specific place. Along with his rulers, staplers, erasers, and notepads. Not one single item was out of place, it was satisfying to look at.
"Okay, Ms. Owens. I could not find the address so you will have to contact Mr. Carter via telephone or email."
"I have to do this?" I didn't want to make any contact with him today, just the thought of it made me feel stressed.
"You are his personal assistant, I don't see why not. Good day." And she hung up.
I hung up as well and gathered the folder and made my way to my own office. I sat down and opened a new email.
Dear Mr. Carter,
I have been assigned to mail your confidential documents today due to your absence from the office. However, I am lacking the mailing address. I would be happy that you inform me what it is so I can complete this task. Thank you.
Sincerely, Ms. Owens
I clicked send and carried on with the other work I was doing beforehand. At 12:00 p.m I put my computer to sleep and grabbed my purse and went to go meet up with Kate for lunch.
Kate was still playing on her phone.
"Have you been on your phone the whole day?"
She looked up at me and rolled her eyes. "Of course not, it's only noon." She winked at me and grabbed her purse.
The cafeteria was bustling with activity, the absence of Elijah appeared to affect everybody. It was louder and everything was not in order how it was when Elijah was here. We got in line and I chose to order two slices of pizza and a soda, while Kate went for the healthier approach and got a bottled water and a small salad. Instead of sitting in the back, like we usually do, we sat in the center.
We sat at a table who had to other guys sitting at it but they were on the far right of the table.
"So," Kate began, "How's work?"
"Pretty good, getting a raise soon." I took a gulp of my soda, savoring its taste.
"Lucky, I was thinking for tommorow, we could go to a nearby bakery for lunch?"
"We can leave the building?"
She looked down at her salad. "Well, it hasn't been clear. I mean no one has said no."
I looked at her and chuckled as I slightly shook my head. "But no one has said yes."
"Well," she said, hesitating on her next words.
"If you don't stay out too long, you won't get in trouble."
We both looked to the right and looked at the guy who talked.
I tilted my head at him. "And how would you know that?"
"From personal experience." He winked at me before returning his gaze to his friend across from him. I could feel myself heat up but I quickly took a drink of my soda to calm myself down.
We didn't say any more about it and continued eating our lunch in silence. I glanced over at the guy who spoke and noticed how extremely attractive he was. He looked around late 20s. It had a thin frame but you could see a hint of muscle. He had thick wavy brown hair that grazed his shoulders. I wonder how he worked here because long hair on guys isn't "professional".
By the time we finished eating and having small talk, it was 12:39. We decided to head back up and call our break quits.
When I sat down at my desk, like usual, I checked my email.
Two new emails.
One was from the front desk about next months shifts and one from Elijah.
I marked the first one was read and opened Elijah's.
Dear Ms. Owens,
79 West Blvd, NYC
-Mr. Carter, CEO of Carter Enterprise
Short and sweet.
The rest of my day I worked on my other tasks and when it was 6:30 pm, I shutted down my computer and locked up my office, with the folder in my hand.
Kate had already left so I sent her a message saying I'll see her tomorrow.
On my way home, I stopped at the post office and mailed out the documents. A wave of relief went through me and excitement. Twenty more dollars added to my salary.
When I got home I fed the cat and did the dishes. I snuggled into the couch as I binged watched "Friends".
For some reason I wasn't tired and it was already midnight and I had gotten up five times to fix something to eat. On the coffee table in front of me were three soda cans, two bowls, one plate, and a few chip bags.
It was nearing one in the morning when my phone buzzed. I clicked it on and saw a message notification.
Elijah: Hey
I hesitated, it could be important but I highly doubted it. But being me, I messaged him back anyways.
Me: Hi
A few seconds later he replied.
Elijah: You busy?
Me: If you call binge-watching Friends busy then yes. Otherwise no I'm not, why?
Elijah: I'm coming over.
