The Party
The Billionaire of New York City
It was now December 23rd. 5:46pm. It was the night of the Christmas Party.
"Stay still." Kate gripped gently on to my head and tilted it straight.
"I'm sorry. I can't sit still without moving for long."
Kate sighed. "I just need to.." her voice became silent as she focused on putting the last swipe of lipstick on me. "There done."
She stood back and clipped the lipstick back together. "Beautiful."
I turned to the mirror and took in my appearance. The make up and hair, thanks to Kate, were amazing.
She went with a natural look on me but made it look fierce. The winged eyeliner, mascara, blush, everything made me look the best I have ever had.
My dark brown hair was put into an elegant messy bun. She did well to tuck in my split ends.
"This is perfect." I turned towards Kate. She looked at me with a smile spread on her face.
Kate's blonde hair was down in light curls. Her black smokey eye makeup brought out her blue eyes.
"You're welcome. Now let's go get dressed." She grabbed my wrist and led me to my room.
Her dress that she had brought with her laid on my bed. It was a black dress. With her choice of makeup and her hair color, it suited her well.
While she started putting her dress on I went to my closet and pulled out the dress I had bought a few days ago. Like Mr. Carter wanted, it was red. Maybe more of a burgundy but it would have to do.
An hour later we were at the party. It was at the same building where we worked on the 10th floor. I was told this is where they host all of their parties.
It was an all open room except for the bathrooms and kitchen. A DJ was present and playing alternative music in the corner. Next to him was an open bar.
Around the room were a few circular dining tables. If people weren't sitting at them they were occupying the couches throughout the room.
In the corner opposite of the DJ a dance floor was present. About twenty people or so were dancing.
Overall there was about 150+ people here. Surprisingly the room was big enough and there was still room to breathe.
"Let's get drinks." Kate and I made our way to the bar. Unfortunately there wasn't anymore open seats so we had to find another place to sit.
After we got our drinks we searched around the room for an empty couch. After a few minutes of looking we found one near the dance floor. There was another couch facing the one we sat down on.
There was a guy occupying it.
He had short black hair and was wearing a grey suit.
"Hello."
Kate and I were interrupted by the guy.
He took a swig of his beer.
"My name is Noah. Yours?"
"Kyla."
Noah smiled. He looked at Kate.
"Kate."
"Nice to meet you too."
"Likewise." I smiled.
His face wasn't clear due to the dim lights in the room.
"I feel like we are in club."
Noah leaned back in to the couch and took another drink of his beer.
"Those were my exact words when I got here, Kyla."
I chuckled. For the next twenty minutes Kate, Noah and I were all in conversation. Noah was a funny guy. He told us stories that would make us laugh to the point where we would almost cry.
"Cheers." We all said in unison. We all downed a shot of vodka.
"How about we go dance?" Noah suggested.
Kate and I both agreed and sat up and walked to the dance floor. Now there was twice the people dancing. The music got louder. The drinks got stronger and the lights got dimmer. A few people joined our circle.
Only a few minutes was all it took for the group to all become friends.
Noah called us over to a nearby table. He had a tray of twelve shots. Two for each of us.
We all took the two shots with both of our hands and held them up in the air.
Michael, one of the three newly friended people, made the toast.
"To vodka." His words were slurred.
Kate started to laugh hysterically.
"It's tequila idiot."
We all started to laugh hysterically like Kate had.
"Let me do it." Emma, another new friend, cleared her throat. "To friends."
"That is so lame." We turned to Daniel. A goofy smile spread on his face. "That's common. I'll do it." We all laughed, again, and waited for Daniel's toast.
"To us."
This time Noah piped in.
"That is like exactly what Emma just said. You're the idiot here." Daniel just laughed at him.
After criticizing everyone's toast, including mine, we all agreed on "to the ridiculous hangover we will have to endeavor tomorrow morning."
Nearing almost midnight, the DJ shut off the music. Immediately we all stopped dancing. And every single person on the dance floor which was probably about 100 people started complaining.
"Listen up." The DJ said over the speaker. We all became silent. Kate was beyond drunk and she started to laugh quietly.
Watching her try to not laugh made me let out a little chuckle.
"Now that you guys are pretty drunk I think it's time to really step up this party."
The music turned back on but this time it was club music and it was loud. The bass fled throughout the room, challenging people to get up and dance.
Noah started to grind on some random girl while Kate and I dance d together. Michal, Daniel and Emma all found someone to dance with and left our group.
"That's not red."
I turned around to see Mr. Carter.
His black tie was loosened around his neck making me feel tingly.
The dark brown hair of his was no longer neat. It looked like he just woke up. The look was attractive on him. He held a beer in his hand and took a swig.
"Its close of enough don't you think?" I asked.
He shrugged.
His eyes went behind me. I turned around to see Kate. As she saw him staring at her, she started to blush.
"Kate can you excuse us?" Mr. Carter asked.
Her blush immediately went away. She nodded.
"See ya around Kyla."
I turned back around to Mr. Carter. "Let's go get a drink." He was drunk. His words slurred together.
We sat down at the bar and each took a shot of vodka.
"That's strong."
He laughed. "Woos."
I looked at him. He was looking at me.
His body leaned in towards mine. His lips were next to my ear. I could smell the alcohol on him.
"Come with me." He whispered in my ear.
I nodded. He stood up and gently took my hand and led me to the dance floor. My back was against his chest. We both started to grind on each other, making us both sweaty.
I turned around to face him. His hands grabbed my hips and pulled me in. Doing so made me start to laugh hysterically. I wrapped my arms around his neck.
He leaned in closer. "Let me take you home." It wasn't a question.
"Yeah okay."
It was almost three in the morning when we got out of the uber and arrived at my apartment building.
I closed the door after Mr. Carter walked in.
"This is nice." He smirked.
I let out a dry laugh. "Thanks."
I stumbled to my room not noticing Mr. Carter was following me. Immediately after opening the door I fell down onto the bed. I could hear him laughing. Instead of trying to get up I just stayed.
I could feel the bed go down next to me. The lights were off so I couldn't see what it was. Thinking it was my cat, I let my arm feel for him, instead my arm landing on something hard.
"What is that?" I murmured.
"It's me." His drunk voice was deeper than usual and it made me feel weird in the stomach. A good weird.
"Oh. Forgot you were here."
"It's okay." I retrieved me arm back. He turned towards me on his side and let his hand rest on my lower back. Neither of us talked anymore. It was a comfortable silence. After a few minutes I drifted off to sleep.
