"So what's the plan?" She asked once I parked the car.
I'd driven to another city already and we were at the center of it. It was nighttime, but most restaurants and some other shops were open.
"We can go for a walk around the city and get something to eat and speak-"
"Okay, let's go" She said excitedly and opened the door getting out of the car.
I smiled as I got out of the car and locked it, "Come here" I told her.
Her face fell and she looked nervous around me all of a sudden, "Why?" She asked.
"Just come here" I smiled at her. She approached me and I brought her closer before putting a grey hoodie on her that I'd brought with me. It was too big for her and she looked adorable.
She looked taken aback as I zipped it up and covered her head with the hood. My palms lingered on the back of her head as I stared at her flushed face.
"That way there is absolutely no chance of getting recognized" I said and took her hand in mine.
I felt like I was crossing the line with all this physical contact. I was waiting for her to stop me, but she never did. In fact, she held my hand just as tight and we started walking around.
The city was pretty busy. Many people were out in restaurants or just walking by.
"Have you ever been here before?" I asked her.
"Not really. I'm guessing you have" She said quietly.
"Yes, of course I have. It's actually where I went to college"
It felt weird saying that to her, as if she was a stranger, a girl that I was meeting for the first time and perhaps that's what it was. She wasn't the same bubbly little girl I left behind. It made me sad that I'd missed out on so much.
"So you weren't that far after all" She mumbled.
What was I supposed to say to that? I wanted to tell her I missed her-
Fuck it. I want to do it, I'm going to do it.
"I missed you. I wish I didn't ever have to leave" I said looking at her, but she never looked at me. The ground was much more interesting.
"Yeah yeah, I know"
Woah she just brushed it off.
"What did you do all this time? I'm guessing you got a college degree" She said changing the topic.
"Yeah, I did" I answered with not that much of an interest. I wasn't interested in talking about myself, I was Interested in getting to know her.
"Did you get a job?" She asked.
"Let's say I did, but I want to hear about you. What did you do?"
"Nothing"
"Nothing?" I asked, not buying it. I knew for a fact this girl always kept herself busy.
"I graduated high school got into university, but you know, that's over now I guess" She chuckled bitterly.
I felt bad.
Hell, I should feel bad.
"And you know, I got engaged and almost got married" She continued.
That marriage made my blood boil everytime I was reminded of it.
"You were invited too" She chuckled.
"Oh I know. I know very well" I answered trying to keep calm.
"Did you like the invitations? I chose them-"
That was it.
"Seriously Amara?" I snapped at her and turned her to face me and stopped walking, "Can you stop mentioning that wedding?"
"Why?" She asked.
"Because it makes me really angry"
"Why?" She asked once again, raising an eyebrow.
"Just don't mention it" I said and started walking again, with her hand still in mine.
"Jeez fine, you don't have to be an ass about it" She mumbled.
"So do you want anything to eat?" I asked her.
"Yeah I'm starving" She exclaimed.
_______
"Question" She said.
We were currently in the car. After seeing everything we could and getting something to eat, we decided to go back home.
Of course we couldn't have left without taking some more food for the way back.
"Ask away" I told her.
"So right now you're basically my kidnapper and you're dedicating your full attention on me. Don't you have other responsibilities that you need to take care of? Don't you have a job or a girlfriend-"
"No" I answered firmly.
The last thing I wanted was her thinking I had a girlfriend.
"I have a job but I have people taking care of that"
"Ohh so are you like, a boss?" She asked.
"You could say that, yes"
"Cool cool" She mumbled and proceeded to stuff her mouth with fries.
Am I crazy for finding that adorable and endearing? Maybe.
"About Jason-" I trailed off wanting to see her reaction. She rolled her eyes and kept eating, "Were you two like an actual couple?"
"Well I mean, we were engaged" She answered, but it wasn't what I was looking for.
"No, I mean since you were a fake couple, did you do stuff that an actual couple does?" I asked fearing the answer.
"Ohh" She said in realization and smirked.
I don't like the way she's smirking.
"Well he did kiss me a couple of times but that's about it. Never did anything more than kissing" She answered.
It could be worse than that, it really could, but for some reason even that made me want to put a bullet in him.
"He was a big player though. He flirted with any female he saw even in front of me" She said.
The disrespect-
"I'm sorry you had to go through that Amara"
"It was my decision so don't be sorry" She said simply. She was abnormally chill about this. Maybe because she knew she wouldn't have to get married now and she felt safe.
"Did you have any boyfriend before him?" I asked.
I was afraid I was crossing the line now. She's been really cool with me for the past couple of hours and I felt like she could go back to hating me at any moment.
"Nope" She simply answered, "I concentrated on my studies after you left"
Good girl. That's what I like to hear.
"Did you have any girlfriend? I'm sure you had many" She giggled.
"No, I didn't want any girlfriend" I answered, "Did you enjoy tonight?"
"Yes, thank you"
So fucking sweet and kind, even with her kidnapper.
"No need to thank me. I should thank you for trusting me enough" I chuckled.
"I know you Ryder. I know you've probably changed since then but I like to think that you wouldn't hurt me. Not after all we've been through together" She said surprising me.
"I would never do that, Amara" I answered truthfully.
I would kill myself before hurting her.
"Uh Ryder? I think we're running out of gas"
Fuck.
