Chapter 32
A Whole New World | Octavia Blake [1]
~~~~~~~~unedited~~~~~~~~
Their lips continue to slowly move in sync, Addison savouring the taste of Octavia's soft lips. The hem of her tank-top that once danced in Addison's fingers is now tightly locked in her grasp, Octavia's left hand that rested on the ground now cupping the girl's face.
She brings Addison closer, the brunette desperately complying to Octavia's gesture. Her smaller frame is moved up, now in Octavia's lap, knees digging into the dirt on either side of the older girl's legs. Addison's arms snake themselves around the girl's neck, fingers tangling in her dark knotted hair while Octavia's arms go around Addison's waist, hands creeping up her back and each girl pulling the other closer.
Air finally became a problem, the two girls slowly pulling away from their heated moment. Their forehead's rest together, a breathy giddy and childish giggle escaping Addison's lips. Her giggles become louder and less airy when Octavia's quiet and nervous chuckle collaborate with her own. Their eyes lock with one another's again, expressions turning more serious, and their lips meet again. Addison feels Octavia's lips curl into a smile against her lips, a smile of her own forming into the new kiss they share.
Their lips are suddenly retracting, Addison's brows knitting. "I'm sorry," Octavia apologizes shyly, looking down while shaking her head.
Addison's lips stay in their smile, fingers gripping the raven-haired girl's hair slightly, "Tave, it's okay. I promise," she laughs out.
Octavia's smile still plays on her lips, but Addison can see what lies underneath it and her facial expression. Confusion, but not regretâto which she was overjoyedâ and something else Addison can't decipher. "I shouldn't have done that...oh, god..." she scolds herself, hands slowly running down Addison's back.
"Octavia, what are youâ"
"I just complicated things," the raven-haired girl cuts the brunette off with a small sigh, her thumbs rubbing circles through Addison's jacket on her waistline.
"Complicated?" Addison asks with a raised brow and plays with the baby hairs that rest on Octavia's neck, taking the weight off her knees and sits almost fully in the girl's lap.
Silence. Addison frowns, her hands moving to lay just under Octavia's jawline, delicate thumbs running down her cheeks. "I'm pretty I just got together with someone this morning and I completely cheated by kissing you." At Octavia's words, Addison stops her actions, taken back.
Her expression changes from a frown into a funny look of confusion. "Relationship? This morning?"
Octavia slowly nods, "Yeah, this morning, and now I've broke my promise to you that I made only last night andâ"
"Octavia," Addison calls in a whisper, interrupting her babbling. She slowly snaps her piercing green eyes to Addison's earthy brown ones. "Slow down and start from the beginning, okay?" Octavia sighs, Addison taking note of the conflict-ion that flashes in those eyes she gets so easily lost in. "Just tell me, Tavia...it's alright," she says softly, voice barely above a whisper.
"I'm afraid to tell you, because I know I've broken my promise, and I never wanted to break it..." If Addison wasn't so close to Octavia, she never would've been able hear what she said from how quiet her voice was.
"I had you promise me not to put me through what you did last week, and youâ"
"I also promised I would never hurt you." Octavia states matter-of-factly, eyes closing and head bowing down with a deep sigh.
She stop rubbing circles on Addison's back, hands sliding down to the hem of her jacket. "You haven't done that either..." the brunette finally whispers, arms unlocking around the girl's neck, and hands resting on her arms.
Octavia finally begins to speak, voice soft and barely above a whisper once more, "I saw Lincoln this morning, the Grounder. And we just...it happened, and then you and I..." she trails off with a stressful exhale, "The night Dawson helped me free him, he kissed me, and I kissed him back." She admits, eyes finally peering into Addison's for a reaction.
Addison's heart sinks at the information, a feeling she's become to know all too well since being on the ground, stirring and swarming inside herâjealousy.
The kiss between that Grounder, Lincoln, happened before the promises that were made. Octavia never could've predicted what would've happened the next day, Addison knows that. Whatever happened was out of either ones control, but Addison doesn't want to be that person that stands in the way nor control one of the few people she cares for. Any ounce of anger she wants to feel is nonexistent; she simply can't find it within her heart to be mad, no matter how hard she tried.
With a soft and defeated sigh, Addison finally answers. "You didn't break your promise, Octavia. You never hurt me."
"Tell that to your face," Octavia says quickly, her head shaking. "I-I don't..." she angrily groans, fingers pulling at the bottom of Addison's jacket.
Addison so badly wants to be selfish and take Octavia for herself, but she also wants Octavia to be able to experience what she truly wants and if it's Lincoln, she'll still be right by her side. Not in the way she'd like to be, but Octavia was who she'd consider her best friend, that isn't Liamâjust a much more complicated best friend she's had feelings for since she first heard the girl's raspy, velvety voice in the dropship.
"I'm not gonna hold you back, Octavia." Addison's soft and genuine words had the Blake girl's head snapping up to her. "You can see whoever you want and be with whoever you want," the brunette starts, "I'm not gonna dictate you around. That's your brother's job."
Octavia manages to crack a small smile, but it soon disappears, the words her mouth wants to say dancing on her tongue. "I just...I don't know what to do," she whispers.
"Try it," Addison replies immediately, causing Octavia's brows to furrow. "If things work out with Lincoln, then that's that, and if not, then it just simply doesn't. But no matter the outcome, I'll always be here for you, Octavia Blake."
"Addie, I'mâ"
"Octavia..." the brunette chuckles out softly, shaking her head and cups the girl's cheek so she'd look at her. "Don't apologize. There's nothing to apologize for. We kissed. That's it," she finishes in whispers with little emotion behind her words towards the end.
Octavia shakes her head now, "It's not just 'that's it'," she mocks almost angrily at herself, "I don't regret it. Do you?"
Addison averts her gaze to her feet, sighing the girl's name out. "Octavia..."
"Do you?" Octavia repeats more sternly, green eyes desperately searching the girl in her lap for an answer.
Addison shakes her head, "No, but technically, you have a boyfriend, so to speak...so whatever thisâ" Addison refers to their make out session and the intimate position they're in, "âis, it's gotta stop, okay?"
The pain behind her own words strikes her in the heart, but she and Octavia both know she's right. "What about you?"
Octavia's voice is small and meek, their heads leaning closer on instinctively. Addison catches herself, pulling her head back with all her willpower. She shrugs her shoulders with a forced smile, "I'm completely and utterly fine with whatever you do. I'm there every step of the way," she replies.
Octavia nods, her fingers still playing with the hem of the brunette's jacket, and Addison's fingers threading through the other girl's tangled knots.
"I still want details," the brunette breaks the silence with a playful smirk. The Blake girl snorts, rolling her eyes with a smile. "I'm serious!" Addison's accent really shows, "How good is a Grounder's kiss?" Octavia shifts her eyes to her unamused, causing Addison's brows to raise. "What? I'm genuinely curious," she chuckles out.
Octavia's lips curl into a smile, a hand moving to Addison's hair. She pushes strands of straight hair that lay in front of her shoulders to behind them, with the rest of her hair. "I don't think you want to hear my answer," she replies, avoiding Addison's eyes, but Addison doesn't notice.
"I'm gonna take that as an... 'Grounder's aren't bad kissers'." Addison answers, both girl's eyes locking and falling into fits of giggles.
After their laughter dies down, Addison stands, reluctantly untangling herself from Octavia. She knew that if she were to stay true to her words, she couldn't be that close in proximity with Octavia, afraid she'd go back on her words and do something reckless.
Octavia follows, Addison making sure there's a distance between them. "Well...I need to clean up still, and you need to go back and see...uh...what's his name?"
"Lincoln," the girl answers quietly.
"Ah, yes! Lincoln," Addison says his name in a deep voice, raising her eyebrows in a teasing manner that earns a playful shove from Octavia and a chuckle. "I'll see you later, Blake. Have fun," she waves at the girl before trekking through the woods, leaving Octavia in the butterfly field, alone.
As soon as Addison knows she's not in Octavia sight's anymore, her shoulders slump, the tugging feeling in her creeping. We weren't a thing, we weren't a thing, we weren't a thing...
Addison repeats the same four words as a reminder to herself so the kiss, or kisses, shared between Octavia and Lincoln didn't affect her, but they did. And that's the truth she wishes that wasn't.
