Chapter 50: 44: Scars

The chaotic nature of the students were hard to get used to. It was hard to not get scared whenever one of them would go off yelling things or when you see them pouncing on another person.

Training, sparring.... you didn't really like it. It was all too noisy and loud and scary. You liked your quiet training sessions with Aizawa, back in the gym. It was just the two of you and you didn'r have to hear or see anyone getting hurt.

Here was different. Everyone seemed to be getting worked up, sweaty and even dirty. They were all doing these things with their quirks and you were pretty sure they were pushing themselves further. They were tiring themselves as they used their quirk.

Still you didn't see the point in getting violent. Its was still something that scared you. Sudden actions, loud noises- they cause you to flinch or whimper.

Aizawa made sure to keep you at a distance, especially when you'd have your training.

Training exhausted you. Not because you were yet to embrace the feeling or power surging into you or the feeling of using up quite a lot of energy, but because using your quirk made your body heat up.

It seemed that since you could move things without really putting much effort, the drawback was that you physically get drained. Or it was the amount of energy within you that made you 'overheat'.

Especially today. The sun felt like it was glaring down on you; burning you.

You were sweaty under your cat sweater, but you ignored it and tried to stop Tora's attacks.

You pushed back the huge amount of water that Tora pushed towards you.

Aizawa stood at the side, making sure that nothing went too far. He didn't want to over exhaust you or stress you too much; however, you really did need to get use to handling your quirk, to reduce chances of a quirk outbreak.

You struggled to keep your stand and the grip on whatever else Tora was gonna push towards you with the water. As the tiger boy pushed a little more, your foot slipped back a bit. It was a signal to Aizawa that you were tired.

"Alright that's enough."

"What?! But-"

"Enough." Aizawa gave Tora a look, in which the boy stopped and dropped the water back to the two metal tanks.

The pro walked over to you, who stumbled back. You felt dizzy, hot and weak. Maybe it was the sun or maybe it was you overusing your power, or maybe it was both. Either way, you seriously needed a break.

He noticed how you seemed to have a limit to your use when you were conscious, maybe because you could feel the drawback kicking in, unlike when your in that type of state.

Aizawa picked you up without hesitation pushing back your hair that you refused to let him tie. He placed a hand on your forehead and just as he thought, you were warmer than usual.

"That's it. Break time." He brought you back to the lounge, where Vlad was also resting.

The buffer hero spotted the two of you. "Back already? That was shorter than yesterday." He pointed out.

Aizawa hummed and settled you down on the table opposite where Vlad sat.

"Well, it is summer, the days are getting hotter..." Aizawa gently pulled back your hair and started to tie it into a messy bun, much to your displeasure.

You didn't really like having your hair tied, it felt unnatural.

Vlad hummed in response to Aizawa. He took a sip of some iced water and offered you some, giving you a glass full. "Your kid's always training in longsleeve, don't you think you should change that? They might get heat stroke or something." Vlad suggested.

Aizawa shrugged, wiping your neck and back with a dry towel. He watched as you gulped down the water then let the ice filled glass rest against you cheek.

"Shohei insists he get use to his hero uniform, which I think he should just remove the damed jacket-" he explained as he gently wiped the sweat of your face. "-and (Y/n) here refuses to change into something that isnt a long sleeve." Aizawa sighed. "But I don't think it just the attire that limits her."

Vlad perked up in interest, crossing his arms and resting back on the chair. "Really? You're saying its apart of her quirk?"

The long haired pro hero shrugged. "That's my guess. Back in UA, when I train her, it usually lasts a lot longer, and she doesn't sweat as much as well."

"Well, you have a point." Vlad took another sip from his glass. He got a small ice cube from where he drank and started munching on it. "Haven't figured out what her quirk is?"

"Not yet... I've asked Shohei and even the doctors who handled her DNA results, but nothing. I'm assuming is's something like Telekinesis."

"Doesn't explain the mutation thing though."

"Exactly." Aizawa sighed. He looked down on your tired form. "We'll find out eventually, but right now, I'll try to convince this little girl into changing." Aizawa motioned you to follow.

You cutely waved goodbye to Vlad before following Aizawa to the changing room.

"Kid, you have to change." Aizawa sighed at your unwillingness to change into a cooler attire, which was a dry-fit shirt and shorts. "You cant keep wearing long-sleeves, especially on hot days like these..." His "fatherly" instincts told him it was bad to let you train in a sweater under the scorching heat.

He'd understand if you were a teen or a professional who was used to extreme temperatures, but you were a little girl. His little girl.

"N-no." You shook your head, clutching onto the hem of you puffy cat sweater, unwilling to change into a shirt.

"Why?" Aizawa always asked, just to understand. He didn't want to be the type of parent who'd just tell his kids to do something. He wanted to understand them and maybe compromise.

And first step to understanding and compromise was to let you explain.

"N-no." You just replied.

It was always hard for you to put into words. Your problems, your fears... they were so hard to explain. Sometimes, you couldn't understand them yourself.

All you could do was look down in shame, unsure how to tell him you didn't want your scars to show.

That you were either in long sleeves or always wrapped in bandages that having your arms and legs uncovered felt weird, unnatural and that it brought about an ache to your scars.

"Hey you two." Shohei greeted, seeing as he took a break from the heat. "Is there a problem?."

Aizawa explained the situation as the teen went on to roll up his sleeves and gulp down a tumbler filled with water.

"Hey Moch," the teen smiled as he got down in front of you. "Wanna try explaining why you dont want to change?"

You looked into his steel eyes and then at the muscled arms enclosing you, slowing finding their way to your sides.

Shohei had his black jacket rolled up, revealing his scars. His gloved hands on either side of you as he waited for your answer.

"What's wrong, (Y/n)?" You traced the cuts on his wrists. You might as well be the only one who saw the broken, terrified labrat Shohei. The one who cried, who screamed and begged. You watched that poor young boy turn into the reserved, "cool" Shohei he was now.

Your small hands lingered on his self-inflicted scars. The scars he never will talk about to anyone.

But he once did to you.

"D-on't.... I-..." the boy's voice cracked as he turned away from your prying eyes. "Stay... away."

Even with the order, you walked to him anyway. You had just gotten into your cell, surprised to see him there. With each step you took, you could see more and more blood.

You stopped, wide-eyed, at the sight of the blood covering his arms. He silently sobbed, releasing his small energy-based weapon to cut even deeper.

"S-sorry..." He turned to you. "I-... I just... want to feel alive... again."

"Is it because of your scars?" Shohei's soft voice pulled you out of your thoughts. Your now red eyes met his steel ones that displayed softness- the kind you haven't seen in a while.

Aizawa was slightly surprised and disappointed that he didn't think of that at all. He really was still learning how to be a parent. For a pro hero, he could be an oblivious parent. He didn't really expect a child your age to be insecure about something like that, especially since no one seems to me noticing it or alienating you about it.

You nodded slowly, watching as Shohei gently took one of your arms and pulled up the sleeve. You pulled you arm back, but he gave you a soft assuring look.

"H-hurt." You managed to say. "F-feels weird..."

"It's ok." Shohei softly spoke successfully pulling up one sleeve to reveal scars from previous challenges you had gone through. "It really does feel weird at first, but soon you will get used to it." His gloved fingers traced the scars on your arm, earning a small wince from you. "Plus, everyone has scars that still hurt."

You looked up at him with sparkling eyes. It wasn't just him who smiled down on you, but Aizawa did as well, while Todoroki just seemed to have overheard the conversation.

"You shouldn't be ashamed of your scars. Look I have one too!" Kirishima cheerfully pointed out the little scar right above his eye. His pointed teeth showing as he giggled. "Being confident with your scars make you manly!... or woman-ly for you... I guess." He sheepishly scratched his head at his attempt to cheer you up.

Well, his was a small scar... and with his hero uniform, if was obvious that he didn't have other giant scars to hate of be ashamed of.

"Sometimes, mg scar hurts as well." Todoroki wanted to try to help you out, even if he sucked at talking to children. "I don't like my scar... nor do I really like my left side... my other quirk."

Maybe something about hearing him say he didn't like his own quirk hit close to home. You were insecure about a lot of things and two of them were your scars and your quirk. So hearing someone older than you admit that, it made you want to try and talk to him.

You and Todoroki haven't really talked. He just introduced himself one time and that was it.

"Someone gave me this scar... and... well I can't blame them-" It sounded like you with Tora. "- cause it wasn't really their fault... and... well... I'm honestly not sure what to tell you... I sort of struggle with the insecurity myself."

He looked down on his left hand. The side that wielded fire.

You weren't sure what you were doing, you just gently grabbed his left hand.

"S-scars hurt... som-some-times?" You watched as he nodded, letting go of his hand as he hovered it over to the scar on his face.

"Yes... it hurts sometime... especially when I remember what caused it or that I remember its there." He looked at you, unsure of how to display affection to kids. He shakily placed a hand on your shoulder. "I guess... all I can really say is... everyone will end up seeing your scars one way or another... its up to you if you will be bothered by them or not." He gave a small smile, you somehow reminded him of himself when he was younger. "Its better if you try to embrace your scars... its apart of who you are."

You looked up at the three smiling at you, but still you weren't too keen of changing into a shirt. You loved liked long-sleeves.

"What about I change into a shirt too... would that change anything?" Shohei smiled at you. "You and me? Matching shirts?"

Matching shirts did always make this seem better for you.

So you both wore a bright pink cat-designed shirt. Aizawa did as well, just to make you feel even better.

"Elsa." You muttered over to Shohei, who had you on his shoulders.

"Sorry?" He tried to look up at you and see where you were looking at.

"Elsa." You gestured to Todoroki using his quirk. Creating ice and then fire. He looked quite graceful and princess-like especially with his hair swooshing around.

The way he gracefully used his ice reminded you of that singing princess, Elsa.

Shohei held back a laugh upon seeing where you pointed.

"Yep. Totally Elsa."
