After spending more than half an hour in McDonald's, just making casual conversations that consisted of "Oh my god, this burger is so nice" to "I really liked Dinah, maybe we should hang out with her someday". Out of nowhere my phone buzzes twice and the screen lights up with a text message from my boyfriend. Wow, it still feels weird saying that.
DYLAN<3: whoa ððhow the fuck are you so hot?
I read the message and start smiling like an idiot. The last message we had, was me sending him a picture of the dress, he probably forgot to reply or was doing something, he's been quite busy lately, but I can't judge him, he's got a lot on his plate right now, he just lost a sibling and found out that his mom was diagnosed with cancer not long ago, that's a lot to take in.
I start typing away on my phone, still smiling at it. I know I'm really weird and cheesy and it probably looks really cringe to others but it's not my fault, I just can't help but smile every time he sends me a text or even when I hear someone mention his name.
me: Idk you tell me lol
As I press send, I hear someone clearing their throat out and that's when I realise that the sound came from in front of me. I look up to see Eve and Alicia smirking at me, "It's your sweetheart, isn't it?" Eve teases making me hide my smile by burying my head into my palms, "That's so cringe, I don't call him that" I speak into my hands making it slightly harder to catch but still clear enough for them to understand.
"What'd you call him then?" Eve teases again. With my hands still on my face, I spread out two of my fingers allowing me to take a peek at my two best friends, or cousin, but whatever, smiling at each other, "Dylan? Babe?" the words slip out of my mouth and I see them looking at me with more teasing smiles on their faces, "I don't know, damn" I pretend to whine in a louder tone making them giggle.
DYLAN<3: you just went from a 10/10 to a 27/10 if thats even possible
DYLAN<3: you just went from being my princess to being my motherfucking queen
My phone buzzes four times this time, making me snatch my phone off from the table and swiftly covering it up, not allowing them to see it. Biting back a smile, I start replying and finally, they stop teasing me and go back to their little conversation.
me: okay stop dylan haha
DYLAN<3: SORRY FOR COMPLIMENTING MY GIRLFRIEND THENðð nah but fr now, what time am I picking you up?
me: we agreed to 6 right?
I put my phone down again, waiting for him to reply, in the meantime I listen to what Alicia and Eve are talking about.
"-and I don't know how he got that paper inside cause all he told me was that he has connections which is obviously bullshit, I just don't know why he wouldn't tell me" Eve finished speaking and looked quite frustrated but because I only got half of the sentence I don't really know what's going on.
"Well maybe, he just didn't wanna take the magic away from that, have you ever thought about that?" Alicia tells her and Eve looks like she just understood something.
"I'm sorry, what are we talking about?" I ask trying to fill myself in.
"Me and Michael" she just boringly replies.
"Has something happened between the two of you?" I ask her, wanting her to know that am here for her because I'm kinda guilty for not being there for her when she had problems with her first boyfriend, etc, etc.
"Not really. It's just, I hate surprises and mysteries and I want to solve them, but he doesn't wanna tell me who helped him" she explains but I still don't get it very well. As I'm about to respond to her, my phone buzzes again and I just have a quick peek at it and then putting down again because I feel like this is more important right now.
DYLAN<3: 6 is good princessð
"Erm, I'm lost." I admit
"She's not actually mad, she's just pretending to be mad at him to hide the fact that in reality she's head over heels for him" Alicia says in a higher tone and rubbing her back and I look at Eve and see a smile curving from the corners of her lips, which brings an automatic smile to my face as well.
"I'm not mad at him. I'm just... ugh, I just wanna know who told him and who helped him with all of this, he doesn't look like the guy that would do these types of things for a girl" she pouts her lips.
"Wait a sec, lemme just reply to "my sweetheart" and I'll tell you what I honestly think about it" I tell her, feeling the need to reply back to Dylan because I don't wanna blank him and I also have a very sassy remark to make.
me: I thought I was a queenðð
"Right, okay, sorry about that. Start from the beginning" I put my phone on the table
DYLAN<3: Yup. And my prom date ;)
DYLAN<3: but dont get too cocky, you know im gonna be the one with the crown on my head
She sighs before taking a deep breath in and starting the conversation, "Right, so you know how Michael asked me out to prom?" she starts off and I shake my head because she actually hasn't told me yet.
"Nope. You didn't tell me when I asked last time" I say, looking down at my phone, faintly reading the message I just received.
"Basically, he did like a scavenger hunt to ask me to prom, someone obviously must've told him I like playing that game. He put a paper with the first clue into my locker and then told me to find him at my dad's tool shed, then he placed lots of clues in there, until I turned around and saw him standing a few feet away from me with a rose and a paper in his hands saying 'prom?'" she blurted out faster than anything I've ever seen.
DYLAN<3: im joking haha
"Whoa. Okay, so firstly, I think he just wanted to ask you out with style, make it memorable, and secondly, he did go on a couple of dates with you and if you haven't forgotten, Michael doesn't go on dates, that should prove something to you" I smile at her and see her frown go away.
"Tell me what exactly?" she smirks
DYLAN<3: im just kidding babe
"He went to a date because of you, he probably did this because of you too. Evelyn... you're over-thinking everything too much, not everything needs an explanation, sometimes it better not to have one and be overwhelmed" I explain and she just nods.
DYLAN<3: babe??
me: hahaha I was just talking to Eve about something, I wasn't ignoring youðð no need to get scared
DYLAN<3: im not scared ahaha
me: sure, Dylan, sure.
DYLAN<3: you don't believe me of course haha whatever. Baby I'll text you when I get home, me and the boys are off for a game
me: kk see ya soon handsome
DYLAN<3: oohh you little flirtð bye princessðð
"So how did Dylan ask you out?" Alicia asks me in response, "He used the 'Hey my name is Dylan, but you can call me your prom date' line" Eve speaks for me, "Actually it was more like, 'you know what this shirts made out of?' pause 'prom date material'" I say and we all laugh.
"I bet it was still cute though" Alicia says, "Compared to the way your guys asked you out, no. But yeah it was cute, he showed up at my door with the two tickets in his hand, my favourite ice cream, pizza, chocolates and a bouquet of flowers, what's there not to love?"
After spending like an hour in McDonald's we decide to go back to shopping. After all, we do need accessories like jewellery, which has to be in a vintage style to be exact and I kinda need to buy new makeup too because I don't exactly wear makeup that often, so the only products I have in my "makeup bag" are mascara, bonzer, a lip gloss and a concealer.
I check my phone for the time and see that it's 2.37pm already. I let out a deep sigh and put my bag onto my shoulder again, taking the tray with the empty food and placing it on the trash bin with the rest of the empty trays.
We decided to check out Forever 21 for some jewellery, but first we stop at another Starbucks cafe because Eve and Alicia needed caffeine. I ordered the same ice tea that Alicia had earlier and Alicia ordered the caramel iced coffee that I had earlier because she probably needed some energy, she's not really a coffee person and neither am I, Eve is though, so she just ordered her usual.
We got to Forever 21 and went into the section with all the jewellery. I started looking for something vintage but all I could find was some diamond chokers, "Erm, excuse me. Do you by any chance have something a little more vintage?" I ask the shop assistant as she walks by with a pair of black pumps in her hands.
"I'm afraid not, the only thing that's close to being a little vintage would be these chokers right here" she says pointing at the chokers that I've just been looking at, well that's not very helpful is it?
"But you should try going to the Secret Stone Ornament, it's a little shop with lots of old jewellery, it's not that expensive and not that far away either, it's just around the corner from here and then go straight down, you should see it right ahead of you." she gives me directions to a better store with vintage accessories, as if she just read my mind.
I shoot her a polite smile whilst quickly thanking her and grabbing the girls out by their arms. We follow the lady's directions and just down the street we see a shop that's a little bit bigger than expected, at the top of the building it says Secret Stone Ornament. We step inside and the door makes a jingling sound, we all look up to see a gold bell attached just above the door, then an older lady with glasses and grey roots that need re-dyeing comes into view.
"How can I help you, ladies?" she formally and politely asks us, we kinda zone out a little because there are tiara's fully covered in diamonds everywhere, obviously they aren't real because if they were they'd be in the see through glass in front of the shop lady, who I think is the owner.
I turn my head around to see a load of royal red shelves with crowns, brooches, hair accessories like headbands etc. Next to it, there was like some sort of a notice board that happened to also be in the royal red colour and loads of different necklaces were stuck to it with pins, and as I moved even further I saw a dozen of different rings and bracelets in the little glass box close to the counter.
The lady fake coughs, bringing us all back to reality, "May I help you?" she softly and politely speaks, "Erm, yes. We have prom the next month and we'd like some nice sets perhaps... if you have any" I tried to be as polite as I could and Eve was still looking around, touching all kinds of crowns.
"Don't touch that please, it's very delicate. Most of these are copies, but that one is a real piece" the lady warns Eve. It's always Eve. She motions with her index finger for us to wait here for her while she goes to the back of the room, which I'm assuming is like her store room with more stuff. When she comes back, she's got three beautiful boxes in her hands, each one of them on top of the other.
"This is a 566 pearl necklace piece, it was worn by women that had quite an outgoing personality, I thought it would suit you" she points at Eve, "Oh no, I'm more of a bracelet and earrings type of girl" she responds and I nudge her with my elbow and give her a very self explanatory look, telling her not to be rude.
"I didn't mean to be rude, I'm sorry, but I just thought that since my dress is quite outgoing and revealing by itself, I thought I'd just get some small accessories" she apologises and the older lady behind the counter smiles at her, Eve then gets her phone out to show her a picture of her dress, "I see. And you're right, maybe something a little like this" she takes out a red tray with diamond sets.
The set that she'd suggested for Eve was two diamond rings, one for each hand, with black diamonds inside them, with that she had diamond earrings shaped like tear drops and a wiggly bracelet. As soon as she sees it, she falls in love with it, "That. Is. Beautiful!" she rushes into her bag to get her purse out. As soon as she paid, she went to the back to look at some more crowns.
"I was thinking maybe I could take that necklace, I think it would suit my dress" Alicia tells her, showing her a picture of her dress as well. "It definitely goes with the dress, my dear, but it doesn't go with your personality" the lady says adjusting her glasses that also happen to be vintage, Alicia gives her a look of confusion and the older lady takes out another pearl necklace, this one is more like a choker than a necklace, it's beautiful.
"You may seem shy and unsocial to others, but this is going to be your night, prove them wrong" Alicia takes a look at the pearl choker, her eyes sparkling with the want to take him home instantly, she lady starts to wrap the box up for her, putting it into a small paper bag after.
"For you, I have something special, because you are special." she winks at me and takes out another pearl necklace, this time it's completely vintage, like it's specifically made for princesses. "Your eyes... They're filled with enormous love, huge respect for people like myself. That's very rare, don't lose it" she whispers her last sentence. I freeze on the spot, it's as if she saw right through me, as if she was speaking directly into my soul, making my heart melt. I don't really know this woman, but it's as if I known her my whole life and my whole body is telling me to trust her.
This day just keeps getting weirder. "How did-"
"I know which necklaces you'll all like the best?" she finishes my sentence and I just nod, "That's a secret" she whispers and then giggles to herself, being really adorable. "It's all in the eyes, dear" she then told me, but it's like I couldn't understand a thing when she spoke. I pay for my necklace, thank her once again and then make my way out with the girls at either side of me and our little bags in our hands.
"Don't you think that was weird?" Alicia asks as soon as the door to her store closed, "Definitely" I agree with her. "I don't know what you lot call weird, but that was creepy" Eve inputs her opinion, "Hey, she was just trying to be nice. Without her we wouldn't have these nice accessories" I tell her.
"Yeah, true" she agrees, taking another look inside her bag. "Hey guys, I'm gonna have to go now, I promised Dylan to meet him afterwards and I kinda have to get home first, I want to take a shower and relax for a bit, I can't feel my feet" I say after I take a look at the time and it's already 3.35pm.
"Yeah, my mom probably wants me home soon as well, we have dinner at 5, which means it's just about right for me to pick the dress up from yours and then head back home" Alicia says, looking at Eve. I totally forgot we left our dresses at her house.
"Ugh, you guys are boring. I'll just call Michael, or hang out with Amanda" Eve sighs.
After picking up my dress from Eve's, I get to my front door, all broken. I open my door and instantly take my shoes off, collapsing onto the stairs as I try to walk up them but I just don't have enough energy to do so.
"Honey, are you okay?" My mom comes into the hallway, concern written all over her face, "I'm fine, my feet are just killing me" I tell her and she replaces her frown with a smile. "I'll tell you what, go take a shower, it's been a very hot day, and then come back down and we can talk about prom, the stuff you just bought... Dylan?" she then says making me blush, "Oh god, stop it mom" I tell her to stop teasing me and I give off a laugh.
Picking myself up from the stairs, I take all of the bags with me upstairs. I get into the shower, turning it to a more colder than warmer temperature to get the sweat off and relax my muscles. After my 10 minute shower, which is going in the world record of Melanie's shower duration probably, I get changed into some more comfortable clothes, a white vest and some light blue cotton shorts, leaving my feet bare because it's too warm to wear socks.
I let my hair down because my head started to hurt after a while of having that big bun on my head, my hair is very thick and heavy so after a while it hurts me, that's why I usually leave my hair down. I put my baby blue headband on, to get the hair out of my face and then jog downstairs.
I sit around out kitchen table with my mom, eating pasta with bolognese as she's taking a look at my dress while teasing me about Dylan.
"You'll look amazing, honey, especially besides Dylan" she tells me while looking up and down the dress. I almost choke on my food when I realise what she just said, "That's it, I'm out" I say as I stand up from my chair ready to take my food to the living room, these jokes of hers are really embarrassing me.
He's my first boyfriend, I'm not used to my mom being like that, especially being so cool about it. I would have thought she'd be against it since it's my first relationship and I don't have any experience what so ever. Then there's also that moment when she saw Dylan in my room, laying besides me when he slept over, somehow that's became like a favourite joke of hers, I'm surprised she wasn't mad, but then again, I'm really thankful that she trusts me so much.
She takes the plate off of me, placing it down next to her, making me sit down again as I start eating, "I'll stop" she giggles, "But you gotta admit, he's hot" she continues teasing, my cheeks are ruby red by now, "tell me something I don't know mom, I wouldn't be dating him if he wasn't" I say in a serious tone, obviously joking though.
My mum gasps before opening her mouth, "you bitch!"
I choke on my food, trying to cough it out, while my mom starts patting my back. Did my mom really just call me a bitch?
"I was joking, honey, you're my daughter, I just wanna be more like your friend, open up to me, I'm not going to judge you or anything, I just wanna talk, you know, like I did with my mom" I was joking as well mom, wow I can't believe she called me a bitch, what is she on? she's defo taking something, is she drunk? "Are you drunk mom?" wow that should have never escaped my mouth.
"Of course not! All I'm saying is, it's okay to open up to your mother... unless you'd rather open up to your father-"
"What? No." I sharply say.
"Okay then how's it going between the two of you?" she asks me and I just stuff my mouth with some more pasta to avoid answering her question, but then she just looks at me before fake coughing, "V-very good." I say with a mouth full of food.
"Very good? that's all you're going to tell me?" she looks at me with disbelief, I put my fork down and rest my back against the chair, relaxing out a bit. "Okay, shoot what do you wanna know?" I ask her clapping my hands together.
She takes a deep breath in, "When did this start? Did you always have a crush on him? Does he have classes with you? Were you close? I'm guessing not, but how did you become close-"
"Okay, mom!" I stop her from asking another question, at this point I feel like am having a conversation with Eve, can't deny that being nosey runs in the family.
"Okay, so... it started out when I gave him tutoring lesson, I guess. I never had a crush on him because I hated him, I'm not sure if he hated me too but I'm betting on the fact that he didn't even know I existed because I'm smart, he's not, duh... We have a few classes together but mostly Maths, and nope you guessed right we weren't close." I answer all of her questions trying to sound as normal about it as possible without turning into a tomato.
"Aww, sweety" she pulls me in a side hug, caressing my face.
"Erm, mom are you sure you didn't have anything to drink?" I ask again, this time actually meaning it. "I might have had a glass or two" she giggles her words out and I roll my eyes.
Just in time, I get saved by the sound of someone knocking on our door, "I'll get that" I told her and she let go of me.
I walk towards the door to open it and see Dylan in a white top and some dark blue sporty shorts, holding a red rose in his hand, while adorably smiling at me, "Hey!" I instantly greet him in my higher excited voice.
Dylan's POV
"Hey." I greet her back, smoothly winking at her. "What's that for?" she asks me looking at the singular rose in my hand, her smile causing butterflies in my stomach, "Can't I just randomly surprise my girlfriend? You deserve it princess" I say and she takes the rose off of me, taking a step back, welcoming me in.
I take a step forwards, putting my hands on Melanie's hips and pulling her closer to me, asking for a kiss, but instead she hugs me, "You might not wanna do that" she says and I look at her face, already smirking, "and why not?" I challenge her, "Because my mum is in the kitchen which is just a few steps away from us" she tells me so instead I hug her really tightly, making her stumble back.
"Oh, Dylan, I was expecting you" her mother comes out from the kitchen, leaning on the door-frame, "You were?" I ask in surprise as I let go off Melanie, "She's drunk." is all Melanie whispers to me and I lightly giggle.
"Well I don't mean to be rude, but me and Melanie already have somewhere to be at" I tell her with an apologetic voice, still smiling like an idiot. In the meantime, Melanie puts her converses on and grabs her brown bag from the coat hook putting it over her shoulder. She interlaces her hand with mine and I open the door for her, dragging her out.
As we close the door, she starts dragging me to come faster, until we reach the end of the street. "Thank you so much for saving me" she buries her face into her hands, starting to lightly massage her temples.
I put my hands on her shoulder, massaging them, to make her relax, "Anything for my princess" I say and then swiftly turn her around, kissing her on the lips. She pulls away, smiling at me, "What was that for?"
"Just thought I'd remind your male neighbours that you're mine" I casually say and I see her flinch her eyes a little when I said she's mine. I can't believe she's still not comfortable with me saying and doing these things, she hears them over and over again all the time. But that's one of the many many reasons why I like her so much, no matter how many times I call her princess, or how many times I kiss her, she's still going to be as surprised as she was when I first kissed or flirted with her.
Her hand slips into mine as we're walking together and I give her hand a little squeeze, "So why d'you need saving?" I ask her curiously. I'm sure it couldn't be that bad.
"My mum started being really friendly, it was freaking me out. She started asking all these questions about us, like how we got together, if we knew each other and if we liked each other from the start, it was like I got interrogated by a police officer for committing a crime" she explains and I chuckle a bit, sometimes she's a little too over-exaggerative.
We get to the mall and she says that she needs to buy some makeup for prom because she forgot to buy some when she was with the girls because they were running out of time. I sigh, because now I'm gonna have to walk around town with cosmetic bags in my hands. The worst part is, her actually choosing the makeup.
I've never done this before because Tasha or the other girls I've been with so far never took me shopping with them, which am thankful for, but I guess there's a first time to everything and if it includes Melanie, I'm in.
"Hm, do you think I should purchase the mac pro long wear foundation or the make up forever ultra hd foundation stick?" she softly asks me, holding two different products in her hands. If only I knew which one was which.
"You want an honest answer? I've never been make up shopping before so don't ask me for opinions, but if you really dwell on it, I think you should buy this one, it's bigger and looks like it's got more stuff in it" I answer her truthfully and gain some giggles from her.
"I think you're right you know" she says and puts on of the products into the little basket that I'm carrying around and puts the other thing back to where it was, which is the exact thing I told her to get and she agreed to get it too.
"Wait, I thought you were buying the other one" I say
"Yeah I know, but Eve already has a mac foundation at hers so I could just borrow it off her if I wanted"
"So why don't you do that instead?" I ask
"Because I wanna try this one" she shoots me a grin and I just return a fake smile, I'm so confused right now, I don't understand a thing. And that's why I don't go mall shopping, girls can be so confusing.
After spending at least another hour in this shop, trying to decide between a "alice in wonderland palette and the naked palette" we come to the conclusion of not taking any of them, because why would she? we only spent 40 minutes looking at it, seems logical to me. Instead she takes a "gwen stefani palette from Urban Decay". Then there was also deciding between "Lilly lashes" and "Red cherry lashes" then deciding between primers, which I haven't had the slightest clue what that was, still don't. We spent at least 20 minutes deciding on what lipsticks she wanted, then she took like one from each brand.
After we were done in lecturing me the differences between "contouring and highlighting" we finally exited the store. "THANK GOD. I'm never doing this again." I say when we step outside, breathing in some fresh air.
"You literally signed up for this" Melanie tells me, "Nu-uh, I didn't sign up for spending three hours in a store FULL of girls, that were all looking me up and down, probably thinking am an idiot... or gay"
She comes closer to me to pinch my cheeks, "They were looking you up and down because you're a sexy, hot boyfriend material... and you're my sexy, hot boyfriend material" she stands on her tip toes to peck my lips lightly, causing me smirk, "so you just admitted I'm hot"
"Ha ha. Don't get too cocky" she puts me back in my place, leaving me to shake my head. "Besides they were just jealous that they don't have boyfriends who go make up shopping with them. And they're probably not as hot either" she states again, making me grin but question her at the same time, "Probably?"
"Definitely" she corrects herself, making me wonder "How much did you actually spend in that shop?" I ask just out of curiosity.
"Erm, roughly about three to four hundred dollars" she replies in a proud tone. My eyes pop out of my sockets, "You paid 400 dollars, for two small bags of makeup?"
"Oh stop lagging behind, I still need to buy some shoes" she says grabbing my hand and dragging me behind her. Oh no, shoes are the worst, this is going to take us at least three hours, I don't know how girls can cope.
We go to ASOS which is actually my favourite store, but then she keeps complaining that they don't have anything she likes so she takes me to a place called Macy's instead. She asks the assistant for help, which I'm thankful for because if I had to get another lecture about different shoe materials, the height of the heels and I don't know what else there is to know about shoes, I think I'd just give her my credit card and leave.
After a while of her sitting on this little comfy stool, trying different styles of shoes, I see her staring at me with the shop assistant that's helping her out with picking the right shoes. They both smile at me, so I wave at them awkwardly, I wonder what they're talking about.
When I finish my drink outside, I make my way in, spotting these shoes with gold ribbons on them, this is so Melanie, I think to myself. I grab a box with the size 4.5 and make my way over to Melanie, who's still sitting on the stool.
I unwrap it from the box, putting the shoes on her feet, "Oh my god, Dylan, where did you find these? They're perfect" she says with a smile, "What can I say, I know what looks good on a girl" I honestly say. Instantly she stands up and asks to put them at the till. When we go over, I take my wallet out, to pay for her shoes, like a real gentleman, "Dylan, I have money to pay for it, you don't-" I cut her off by placing my hand over her lips to stop her from talking, "Shut up and be grateful" I tease and she smiles under my hand, when I take my hand away I lean in to kiss her cheek.
"So you got everything now? Please say you do" I plead and she just nods and shoots me a kind smile. We walk together hand in hand when she speaks up again, "You didn't have to do that"
"I know. I wanted to"
"It's bad luck when you buy shoes for your beloved one" she informs me with one of her matter-of-fact faces.
"I'm not very superstitious, so it doesn't bother me" I tell her.
"Thank you Dylan, it means a lot to me" she gives me one of her out-of-this-world smiles, instantly warming my heart up. I bring her hand close to my lips and softly kiss the top of her knuckles.
After that I take her to a Italian restaurant, it's not a very expensive one, but they do really nice foods and it's really artistic in here as well, which I thought she'd appreciate. The waitress gives us a table for two, we sit opposite each other, looking through the menu.
"So what's the occasion?" she asks me from curiosity again, "How many times do I have to remind you that I don't need a special occasion to do something nice for my girlfriend?" I rhetorically ask making her roll her eyes, "What?" I ask when she plainly stares at me.
"I feel like there's more to it, but okay"
"Well, let's just say that I'm really happy to have you as my girlfriend, not one girl on this planet would be better than you" I wink at her after I finish speaking. And I haven't even exaggerated because I wouldn't want anybody else other than her, I'm just really pissed that I haven't found her sooner, she changed me so much, for better, and I'm happy.
"Ooh, you little flirt" she says with a higher tone, giggling her ass off making me join in as well. It's become one of our many inside jokes that we have.
After the waiter comes around to our table asking us what we'd like to order, we both say pizza because we're picky eaters and we're both scared to tried something new in case we won't like it, so we just settle with a one big pizza instead of two. I also order a bottle of red merlot wine, which is only $15.99. As I said, this restaurant is very affordable, me and the boys used to come here often.
Melanie gives me a really weird look, when I said I wanted a bottle of wine, but didn't say anything because the waiter was probably still standing next to us, scribbling into his little notepad. He then goes away into the kitchen telling us he'll be right back with our drinks, "I spent almost a hundred dollars on your shoes, I think spending 16 more dollars won't make me broke" I tell her
"I didn't want you to pay" she stubbornly says, playing with her nails. I sigh, "Oh come on, don't tell me we're going to be arguing now" as much as we get along, we also disagree a lot of the times because she's the smartass and has to be always right.
"I'm not the one that's arguing" she spits back, "Oh really? what are you doing then?"
"Answering" she blurts out a fast comeback, making me face palm myself, "Look, I bought you those shoes because I wanted to, not to argue about it with you later or to prove that I'm a gentleman or something... well maybe a little but that's not the point, the point is I wanted to make you happy because I love seeing that smile of yours on your face, okay?"
I can tell that she's biting back a smile because I made her feel special like I always try to, but because she's stubborn as fuck she's not giving up, "But what about your money?" she asks feeling a bit guilty. I think she's forgetting that my dad's a very successful lawyer.
"Fuck the money. If you're happy, I'm happy, cool?" I reassure her.
A smile finds a way to her face. Sometimes she wants a lot of attention, which I find cute. You see, Melanie's one of them girls that would be mad at me for no reason and if I asked her about it she'd tell me to figure it out on my own, but as soon as I'd mention if she wants to get food, she'd be like "where from?" no matter what the time was.
The waiter comes around with the bottle of wine in his hand, "Would you like to try some?" he asks with a strong Italian accent, looking at Melanie. She gives him a nice polite smile while nodding her head, he then pours some of the wine into her glass.
She picks her glass up, ready to drink the beverage, while my eyes are fixed onto the young Italian, looking at her with fire burning in his eyes, if I didn't know better, I'd say he's just being friendly, but I do and he's definitely into her.
He looks at her while she's still drinking the wine, full smirk plastered on his face, "Is it good, signora?" he asks her, not paying any attention to me what so ever. He just had had to speak in Italian. Girls find it attractive when a guy has an accent or speaks in a different language apparently.
"Yes, it's marvellous, thank you" here we go, she's using her big words to sound noble and probably trying to impress him.
"Nessun problema, enjoy" he says in his thick accent once again, putting his hands behind his back, patiently waiting for Melanie to speak up, there's no need what so ever, we got what we wanted, now go.
"We will-"
Melanie interrupts me, smiling at him with one of her kindest and most sincerest smiles."I'm guessing that means no problem" Well shit no. I'm not the smart one but even I would have guessed that. On instant, I feel a wave of heat fall onto my body, making me clear my throat out and they both look at me.
"So, er, if you need anything else, I'm at your disposal" he says looking at her from the corner of his eyes again.
"Don't worry we won't" I sternly say, giving him a death glare. "Ignore him, grazie" she points at me, smiling at him again. He finally goes into the kitchen, making me shake my head, "Ignore me, really?" I narrow my eyes at her.
"Wow, you're jealous! That's something, I thought I'd never see" she bursts into laughter, "Jealous, of that prick? Really? 'oh my god, look at me, I have an Italian accent, therefore it makes it legal to flirt with guys girlfriends'" I say, taking a piss out of him.
"Oh my god, you are jealous" she says sounding surprised.
"Melanie, please. I don't wanna argue again"
"Okay, lets talk about something else then. I saw you looking at the waitress when we came in" she spits out, narrowing her eyes at me now.
"I wasn't looking at her" I state
"Yeah, well what were you doing?" she tries to catch me out. I really haven't done anything wrong.
"Giving her eye-contact like I would do to any other human being, it's called being polite." I fire back.
"Well this was me being polite." she crosses her arms in front of her.
"Talking about me getting jealous and look at you now"
"Yeah? Well what if I am?"
"Then I'd say it's hot" I wink at her and she sighs. The same waiter that brought us our wine, came with a large pizza in his hand, this time not saying a word other than enjoy your meal. After sipping on our wine and taking a slice of the pizza each, Melanie breaks the silence.
"Anyway, hows your mom doing?"
My smile fades and I put my wine glass down, but I decide to answer anyway because I know she cares about her just as much as she cares about me or other people's healths, I clear my throat out to make the words come out, "Still the same, if not worse. Doctors are giving her all the medications"
"I'm so sorry, Dylan." she puts her hand over mine, caressing it lightly with her thumb.
"It's okay, Mel, you said that for the 456th time now" I say making her smile lit up her face. We continue talking about random stuff, like what we're going to do on Friday and the next day and then the day after that day.
